One problem related to brake drum shoes/linings has been reported for the 1996 Toyota Avalon. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Rear brakes squealed only when backing up. Had brake shoes cleaned many times by dealer. Always the same thing until replacing rear brakes fixed problem. Not under warranty.
