Two problems related to hydraulic power assist steering system have been reported for the 1996 Toyota Avalon. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While making a right turn on flat surface and with no warning consumer lost steering control. Dealer notified.
Power steering rack needs to be replaced. Seems to be a common problem with this car. Toyota won't officially recognize this defect, although they will privately tell you that they see all the time.
