One problem related to air bag has been reported for the 1997 Toyota Avalon. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Consumer was involved in a head on collision, consumers wifes head hit the windshield and then the airbags deployed, hitting her in the chest at a great impact, consumer was also wearing her seat belt, Toyota stated that the airbags worked as designed.
