2 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2016

The recall remedy for NHTSA campaign 15v043000 is a failure. An identical symptom to the original problem has recurred on two occasions (intermittent illumination of the srs system warning light). Prior to the recall, we attempted to have the error code diagnosed by the dealership following illumination of this warning lamp. However, no error codes were stored. Now, the dealership (lou fusz, st. Louis) claims that they must charge us to attempt to read any stored codes. Obviously, Toyota engineers do not know what the problem is after having a first recall that failed followed by a second recall and now recurrence of identical symptoms.

9 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

I received over the summer of 2014 a recall for my 2003 Toyota Avalon regarding the srs (airbag) warning light and to hang tight because a 'fix' was coming soon. October 22, 2014 I received a 2nd letter from Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. Indicating that the replacement part was in and to contact my Toyota dealership to schedule an appointment. I called walker Toyota (937. 433. 4950) located at 8457 springboro pike, miamisburg, OH 45342 on October 23, 2014 and attempted to schedule my car for repair. I was told that they did not have the replacement part but would contact me soon. On November 3, 2014 the srs warning light came on the dashboard. I immediately took the car to the night drop at walker Toyota with the hope the part would be installed on Nov. 4, 2014. I received a phone call from bob (service mgr. ) that there was no indication that the srs warning light came on based on the car computer and because this is not considered an 'emergency' I have to wait 10 days for a part to become available. I now have a car that I'm afraid to drive for fear of the airbag deploying. I was assured by bob that this has 'never' happened to his knowledge. Wow. . . . . That makes me feel good about it. I then asked for a rental car with a discount based on this issue. I was told that walker Toyota cannot give a price break on a rental. Keep in mind I'm a school secretary making $32,000. 00 a year. $35 x 10 days is $350. 00. I can't afford to do that. I am now resorting to begging rides to and from work until this car is scheduled for a repair.

10 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2014

Air bag warning light began flashing. The same week the light started flashing I received a letter from Toyota notifying me that there was a recall for a problem with the srs because the srs circuits are susceptible to internal shorting. The electrical short may create an abnormal current flow and increased heat which can damage the circuits. I brought the vehicle to a certified Toyota dealer to have recall addressed. The dealer told me they performed the fix that was required by Toyota. The work that the dealer performed did not address the problem that was causing air bag warning light to flash. I was told the air bag light was flashing because of a short. I can not figure out how this short in the srs would not be covered under the recall.

11 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2014

The air bag warning light turns on and off. I am the original vehicle owner. The vehicle has never been in a crash nor has the air bag ever deployed. Currently the air bag light is on. I took the vehicle in under the interim air bag recall notice that I received but no repair by the Toyota dealer was made. The interim recall notice for the air bag was received 05/19/2014. Today is 07/27/2014.

12 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

2003 Toyota Avalon. Consumer writes in regards to airbag deployment may exist without illumination of the srs warning light. A Toyota representative informed the consumer, it would be months before a remedy would be available.

13 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

Electronic control module (ecm) issue: problem w/ intermittent warning lights for air bag some time ago (researching date)- took vehicle to dealership. No more light, but vehicle began stalling/losing power while driving- rarely, but became more frequent over time. Instrument panel/check engine lights will illuminate- now every minute or so while driving. Other people have same problem- NHTSA id 10605681. Took vehicle to dealer late may. Dealer on phone w/ Toyota multiple times + had tech from another dealer come and look at vehicle - could not figure out what was wrong. Dealer now says the ecm faulty. Not repaired, but dealer wants to charge 8hrs of diagnostic time and not repaired - can dealer charge if recall item? my concern is that problem is more than air bags- faulty ecm results in loss of power/control when engine shuts down, stalls or experiences intermittent loss of power- vehicle no longer safe to operate. I cannot drive it; I cannot sell it. Called Toyota, asked for part # of recalled srs/ecm- was told only local dealer has part numbers. They took information and transferred me to "Toyota corporate"- operator id'd as Toyota corporate asked questions, indicated they had documented my file. When I asked operator to confirm items operator had chosen to document, operator refused to respond to my requests for confirmation- I asked for supervisor- was told "no supervisor" there. Operator threw me on hold (on hold for over 30 minutes w/ corporate then transferred me to NHTSA w/out operator ever coming back on the line prior to transfer (NHTSA conf # available). "corporate" indicated that Toyota has no control over dealers- they can charge whatever they want to diagnose even if related to recall notice. Loss of use over 1 month. Dealer said no new ecm replacement part available. Pretty sure recall remedy inadequate.

The contact stated that warning lights illuminated on the instrumental panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v147000 (air bags) but the dealer determined another failure. The failure mileage was 10,000 and the current mileage was 21,000.

17 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

My wife was driving down the freeway when the seatbelt began tightening down on her to the point she felt she couldn't maintain her posture to drive safely and breath. She pulled off the road and released the seatbelt. She was unable to refasten the seatbelt/shoulder strap. She drove home without a seatbelt. This was in addition to occasional flashing of airbag warning light which has continued to occur since replacement of seatbelt mechanism.

18 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

Airbag warning light on dash appeared. The source of this warning has been identified as the spiral cable (clock spring in steering column). This part has not been identified as a recall by Toyota for this model but spiral cables have been identified as a recall for numerous other Toyota models. I suggest this problem may be systemic to a larger group of Toyota products than previously identified by Toyota and since it is a potential safety issue it needs to be addressed accordingly.

19 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2011

Airbag system warning indicator light flashes intermittently. Independent repair shop found no codes stored during vehicle check. Illumination of warning light is inconsistent, has no apparent connection to speed or conditions, but has occurred repeatedly. Due to the seriousness of airbag system failure, and the apparent trend of complaints for this specific problem on a range of Toyota Avalon model years, inaction by NHTSA and Toyota must cease.

20 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2011

The contact owns 2003 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that the srs air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. The contact received a recall notice under NHTSA campaign id number: 14v147000 (air bags) however, the part needed for the repair was unavailable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

21 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2010

Air bag warning light began flashing then stopped. Took to dealer who discovered a error code b0166 stored in the computer (open circuit in left side airbag) but was not flashing when evaluated. One day later the light again came on. The dealer wants $1700. 00 plus labor to fix and that it would be inoperative in an accident. I contacted Toyota--[xxx] at 800-331-4331 who advised me it was out of warranty and Toyota would take no responsibility for fixing a federally mandated safety feature which has no maintenance or wear and tear expectation. It is a part not expected to fail. I am now waiting on a supervisor, [xxx], to call me back but [xxx] assures me he will not be helpful either. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

22 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2004

After starting the vehicle air bag warning light illuminated. Dealership repaired the problem four times, but did not resolve the problem.

23 Warning Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2004

Srs warning light continues to illuminate at different occasions while driving. A recall was issued in 2014 and vehicle was taken to Toyota dealer for recall repair. After repair srs light continues to illuminate while driving. Vehicle was taken back to Toyota dealer for repair but nothing could be done because it could not be duplicated or diagnostic equipment could not find or pull any malfunction codes. What now???.
