1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2009

2005 Toyota Avalon with 70,000 + miles and just had 70,000 mile service. I was driving home from work and heard engine sounding louder than normal. No warning lights or other warning was given. Had vehicle towed to dealership. Analysis revealed broken oil pipe and oil soaked timing belt. Part is on back order and will not arrive until Feb 18 from japan. I was further told that more than a thousand on backorder. In reviewing complaints on 2006 Avalon, I noted similar complaints and apparently a service memorandum has been issued. Appears to be a defective part. Because of safety risk, shouldn't this be subject to recall?.

2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Avalon. While the contact was driving 55 mph he noticed that the engine temperature had risen. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact had the serpentine belt replaced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 57,000. Updated 3/24/10 the serpentine belt broke while driving. It was apparently caused by frozen bearings in the idler pulley. The rotors were warped and had to be replaced, the power steering pump was replaced due to leakage. Updated 08/11/10.
