On 2005 to 2008 Toyota Avalon limited models the 3rd break light works sometimes and other time it doesn't I have looked on a lot of forum and so many people are complaining about the same problem and I got a warning for it.
Leaks. My stereo system shorted out due to leaking water from windshield area. I since learned Toyota knew about at least 2 leaking problems (in TSB’s) however the coverage was only for 36,000 miles or 36 months. I didn’t detect these issues until after that time. Now it will cost thou$ands to remedy.
The rear sunshade won't go down and it's stuck in the up position hence causing poor visibility when driving at night.
Dashboard and airbag covers including dash are badly cracked, airbag safety is potentially compromised if deployed. The car is available for inspection at my residence at any time. Toyota offered to supply and replace dash covers to fix this danger, but parts were never made available. The hazard remains.
Car was in park with engine running and airbags in driver's seat and roof deployed when driver's door was shut. Made numerous attempts with Toyota to reapir and have had no success in getting this done. Vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealership on 11/13/14 to have diagnostic readings and was told we would be notified within 30 days by legal department. I have made numerous attempts at getting answers but have not had any success.
Airbag light came on and has not gone off.
I was driving at 70 mph up I-81 in heavy traffic and lost all power. I was able to steer to the shoulder. I turned on flashers, put car in park, turned key off, and tried to restart engine. It immediately cranked right up and I proceeded up the interstate. Five minutes later, at 70 mph, it happened again. Again I was able to steer off the road and restart the engine. I continued on home for another 2 hours with no problems. On 5/18, I went to church and it happened again. Since I was driving slowly, it was hard to steer (no power steering). At no time has a light come on showing it needed service or some problem. I assume since I was driving so fast on the interstate, I didn't notice the power steering loss when I lost all power. I am afraid that it might happen again and I might get killed from not being able to pull onto a shoulder.
Toyota Avalon ltd. 2005. . Steering wheel locking mechanism that locks the steering wheel into position "up and down". . The lever does not lock into position and easily opens and the steering wheel drops down even as the car is in motion. . . Almost lost control as I was driving as the lever opened down and the steering wheel dropped quickly as I drove the car. . . . When I informed Toyota of the potential danger, they said it was no problem. . . . I think it is. . . . . . . . . . . . .
My onboard navigation system goes to great lengths to make sure you agree to not watch the screen while driving, yet when you get to cetain areas the voice guidance system says " voice guidance is not available in this area. Please follow the arrows on the screen. " this is contradictory and dangerous. Even the low cost unit I have in another vehicle provides voice guidance right up to the destination. Toyota should provide updated software to cure this safety issue.
