In my 2006 Toyota Avalon xl on dashboard appeared srs airbag light. Unable to clear it.
My dashboard has a tear over the airbag on the front passenger side. I took it to the Toyota dealership on franklin st. In hempstead before the covid 19 virus shut down. I was informed that since there's no recall on my vehicle, I would have to pay out of pocket to change the dashboard cover. I think it's a safety issue since this happened through no fault of my own. The vehicle is in mint condition and runs like new because I take care of my cars. Please help.
Was told air bags may contain metal.

Noticed that the dashboard section air bag (console) on passenger side has started "cracking". When first noticed it was approximate one inch in length, & is progressing currently approximate 2" inches in length. Call Toyota to inform and suggested I take to dealership where I service my vechicle. Upon doing so the dealership stated it was ok and wouldn't diminish the integrity of the airbags going off. I still feel this is a safety issue with the console proceeding to crack, and believe once summer heat continues to hit dashboard it will progress to crack further. Wife ( passenger) is quite concerned since she notices the crack getting longer. We garage our car, but if car was parked out in sun it could possibly get worse.
Passenger airbag cover is cracking which may produce sharp or pointed projectiles in the event of activation. Cover appears to be bowing out towards passenger, pictures available. Vehicle has not been in accident.
Vehicle dashboard cracked in several places where air bags deploy. Concerned this is a safety issue as air bag will/will not deploy as intended. Many Toyota Avalon owners have complained on the internet with the same problem. Contacted Toyota corporate and local dealer who advised not a warranty item or subject to recall.
Dashboard on this vehicle cracked in 2010. In subsequent years, several places cracked and became sticky to the touch where air bags deploy. Concerned that airbag deployment would be a problem with pieces of dashboard being thrown. Brought to dealers attention. Advised out of warranty so nothing could be done. Because of the potential safety problem - replaced the dashboard at a personal cost of $2000. This was a defective part as shown on the thousands of owners who had the same issue. Toyota should reimburse me for cost to replace this safety issue defect.
The day after my car had 3 recalls corrected, I was driving around 20 mph when the car started to take off. I put the brake on real hard and got it stopped at about 35 mph. Needless to say my passenger and I were scared to death.
On Sunday, September 6, 2009, my mother was driving my 2006 Toyota Avalon when she was involved in a crash due to an acceleration problem with the vehicle. She was also involved in a crash in my garage when the floor mat got stuck on the accelerator and cause her to run into the wall of the garage. I also have experienced several instances of acceleration after taking my foot off the gas pedal when attempting to brake which caused me to have to slam on the brakes to stop the vehicle. The insurance company deemed the car a total loss and it was only when I received the settlement papers from the insurance company did I find out there were problems with the airbags as Toyota never sent me any correspondence regarding the problem with the airbags, the floor mats or the accelerator.
I am in shock given the today’s news. I was in an accident on 12/01/08 in my 2006 Toyota Avalon. I could not stop the car and ran into the t-bar of a box truck in front of me. My car was totaled. After the accident we called the Toyota experience center, they created a claim #1001145755 and erika with Toyota said they would be in contact with us. We next heard from a monique with Toyota who then told us to mail our complaint to Toyota motor sales claims department in torrance, CA. We mailed of the necessary documentation from the accident and never heard back from them. We called back on many occasions all to be never answered or given a run around, once told they were looking into it. Nothing ever came of it all. We didn’t know what to so we gave up, at the time we could not afford a lawyer. So today’s news was frustrating. Months prior to my accident we took the Avalon into dch Toyota of simi valley to check out acceleration problems. They said nothing was wrong with it and told me I needed a transmission fluid exchange and to have the power steering fluid flushed. We were told nothing was wrong; clearly there was. I am just curios what actions we take now. I am so frustrated and disappointed. Can you please advise me on what to do?.
