Car intermittently completely shuts off, so I have to pull over with no power steering, put it in park and start it backup this occurs within 2 miles of startup and usually happens when I take my foot off the accelerator pedal to slow down for a red light or stop sign.

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that while attempt to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact mentioned waited days later to start the vehicle and noticed the burnt odor coming from the vehicle. In addition there was white smoke coming from underneath the front passenger side of the vehicle. The contact noticed that there was wires burnt. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact the price for a diagnosis for the harness wiring. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Avalon. While driving less than 5 mph to pull into an underground garage area, the accelerator pedal became stuck and failed to release. The brake pedal was applied with force, but the vehicle lunged forward and crashed into the garage door. Upon impact, a yellow piece associated with the front passenger side air bag fractured. None of the air bags deployed. The driver sustained injuries to the head and neck and sustained bodily scratches and bruising, which did not require medical attention. The insurance company was notified of the failure and planned to investigate the cause of the air bag and acceleration failures. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 10v017000 (vehicle speed control) and 09v388000 (vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The vehicle was still at the contact's residence. The approximate failure mileage was 216,000.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

While driving in town at about 25 mph, the car will accelerate by itself to 30mph, even if the accelerator is released. Pushing down on the accelerator has no effect. The acceleration is brief and stops by itself. This has happened several times over the last few weeks. Cruise control not engaged. The car computer was re-flashed at the dealer year to address to address sensitive accelerator issues.

5 Electrical System problem

The rear deck brake light works when it wants to. No explaination provided by dealer. Expensive to trace.

Failure Date: 01/02/2010

2006 Toyota Avalon. Rear deck brake light works only intermittently. Safety issue. Suspected electrical issue. Dealer was initially unable to fix, and estimates $400+ to replace.

7 Electrical System problem

My 2006 Toyota Avalon xl has been giving problems shortly after my purchase. The first was the breaking of an oil hose followed by stalling on the freeway. I have taken it to the dealership for diagnosis and for over a week they have not been able to tell me anything.
