1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2020

My paid cash for this Toyota Avalon $5000 worth $2200 the car has 6 recalls none of which were ever investigated by Toyota or anyone else. I first got the car started driving and the belt started smoking before 3 yrs the battery was changed out by advanced auto free / we paid for a new belt then the tire went out 2 x found out theirs a wheel alignment issue with the arms that need replacing toy dealer and american best recommended new arms amer best priced $800 toy dealer priced $3-5k among brakes wipers suspension etc ! toy should be liable to fix the car parts as I went there for help instead they send an est for thousands to fix when there are 6 recalls remaining ! I was in an accident 10/30 someone hit me while driving from behind . The car I believe was in an accident prior to ownership. Everything I mentioned is hazardous and unsafe for manufacturers to continue to build unsafe cars on the road!.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

I have to apply the parking brake at all time no matter what position the car is in at that time. If not, the car would make a movement to where it acts like it want to jump out of the gear that the car is position in. Even if the car is in position park position if the brake is not applied the car would make a hard movement like it want to keep moving. When the parking brake is applied and the automatic transmission is still in the drive or reverse position and the stationary pto switch is engaged by the operator, the engine may rev and overcome the parking brake's ability to keep the vehicle from moving. Unexpected vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2018

Please see document attached for detail.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2018

The brake pedal depresses to the floor when the brake pedal is pressed whether the vehicle is in motion or stopped. When stopping in an emergency the car does not stop quickly as it should.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2016

Purchased vehicle "as is" while recovering from surgery. Could not inspect vehicle. On first drive on city street, could not slow down to make a rh turn. Brakes did not fully engage, and driver had to shift down. Vehicle entered adjacent lawn before stopping. Vehicle was driven slowly to Toyota dealership where it was examined. Estimate to get vehicle running safely: $4,719. 11. Vehicle declared unsafe when sold.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2014

While driving toward a stop sign, attempted to apply the breaks. The break pedal went very low to the floor, car slowed down, but did not stop. Loud abnormal grinding sounds could be heard and locking of all breaks were felt. I moved the gear from drive to neutral to park, because the car would not stop by use of breaks. If I were on a major road, I would have crashed into someone, or been rear ended.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

I pressed brake pedal as I was about to exit a driveway and the car continued to roll into the roadway. To avoid a speeding pickup truck in the second lane that did not appear to slow down, I accelerated across the two lane roadway and was able to stop on the other side. The brakes appeared to work normally after that and I was able to drive approximately 5 miles and leave the car at the Toyota dealer. The front brakes had just been replaced two weeks earlier. The dealer checked the brake system mechanically and hydraulicly and found no problem. They road tested the vehicle and kept it for a second day and found the brakes to work properly after road testing it extensively. Since no problem was identified, this leaves me very uneasy about continued use of the vehicle.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2013

Was driving downhill, it felt like it started going faster even though the brake was pressed. Brakes seem not to respond & speed kept on increasing. Unable to stop it crashed into a wall, went throw down hill inside the property & end up inside a pool. 3 people were injure, one adult, 2 children. Adult has broken bones.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2012

I am used to the brakes and do not believe they will actually fail me. My wife, when she drives the car (she owns a 2002 santa fe) complains that the brakes sink all the way to the floor. I grant that the pedal travel feels more than any other car I have ever driven (more than 30 models over the years). I, being very concerned about brakes, brought the car to Toyota who checked the brakes, adjusted something but did not resolve the pedal travel. The pedal travel remained the same, almost reaching the floor. I was told that the brakes were normal for the car.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

The brake pedal sinks slowly to the floor when stopped, for example at a traffic light. The brakes will still hold the car even with the pedal at the bottom travel limit, but it's a disconcerting feeling to press on the brake and feel the pedal slowing sinking. It sinks fully to the bottom limit in about 10 seconds with moderate pressure on the pedal. The local Toyota dealer said this is a normal condition and did nothing to correct the problem. That dealer is rated d - for customer service by the bbb so I took it to another Toyota dealer. They said it was normal, and they compared it to another Avalon which did the same thing, so they also refused to do anything about it. The problem was noticed earlier but it was not very obvious, not it seems to have gotten worse, perhaps due to the very hot weather. The two Toyota dealers, and the Toyota corporate hq in torrence have all refused to tell me what is the allowable brake pedal fade rate; I maintain that 5 to 10 seconds must exceed some nominal and acceptable amount.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2010

My car is a 2007 Avalon Toyota and when I first purchased it I had problems with the car accelerating, brought it into the dealer and no problem was ever found. This happened a minimum of 3 times. Then the car seemed to be ok, and it happened again about 1 year ago. I did not bring it to the dealer. The car has been running fine, but I have been watchful of it. And iwas told just to put it in neutral and turn off the motor. But it did not happen again. While in florida this past winter I did have my car serviced for all 3 recalls with much hesitation since, as I said, the car seemed to be ok. It has been approx. 3 weeks since I had all the recall work done and while driving home from fla. I went into a gas station to put air in my tires and then all [xxx] broke loose. I was driving slow looking for the air pump and the carwent crazy accelerating. I yelled, put my foot on the brakes and turned off the motor. It had nothing to do with the floor mat, pedal etc. Nothing was noticeable stuck. I love this car, but there is a devil inside the motor. Since the recall did not take care of the problem what should I do? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

I was approximately 2 1/2 cars length apart from the car in front of me. When I saw the traffic light begin to change from yellow to red, I quickly put on my brakes, but the car did not slow down or stop; it accelerated instead. I kept my foot all the way on the brake pedal, but the car still did not slow down or stop. I brace myself for the impact because I knew that it was unavoidable to hit the car in front of me. It finally stopped when it struck the car in front of me.

13 Service Brakes problem

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Avalon. While the contact was driving 30 mph he applied the brakes and the vehicle began to slide causing the vehicle to crash into a curb. No one was injured and the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealership. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 30,000.

My front bumper was broken after the hit. The hit impact caused a big shake on my 2 babies ( both under 2 . 5 year old).

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2009

When he applied the brakes and the vehicle continued to spin out of control and crashed into a guard rail. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 62,000. 16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

I think because I am a women and repair companies do this type. I have a 2007 Toyota Avalon. It has not being 6 months yet. I purchased it from carmax. I have taken it back at list 5 time are more for miner repairs . Now I had new front disc brakes put on this month and they are scrubbing and the front tires are black because the brakes are very low end product and they are not suppose to scrub this is a safety hazard to me. Please respond to this ASAP.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2008

The brake pedal sinks slowly all the way to the floor when stopped with pressure applied to the brake pedal, that is a very disconcerting feeling when the brake pedal sinks slowly to the floor; it actually stops only at the bottom mechanical stop for the pedal. The vehicle has been to three local Toyota dealers, and the complaint has been filed with Toyota USA and Toyota japan. The local dealers say it is a normal condition, that's preposterous. This is a known problem with the Toyota Avalon and camry around the 2007 production year. Subject vehicle is still under manufacturers warranty. The problem is believed to be an internal leak in the anti-skid system. The local Toyota dealers will not make the needed repairs. I requested that Toyota USA service reps inspect my car on their next visit to this area, and that request was refused by findlay Toyota of henderson. I filed a previous complaint on 7/6/2010 and no reply has been received to date. I suspect that no action was taken. The problem exists to this date, and this is a formal request for the NHTSA to investigate the antiskid system on my vehicle.
