1 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2019 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 10/31/2019

At 3600 miles, while driving on a city street, can check engine light came on plus all the other warning lights and malfunction messages about every sensor in the car, car lost power and acceleration, engine starts sometimes only. Dealer diagnosis was a full tank of e85 gas, gas station does not sell that and no any other complaint of e85. Did my own testing, doesn't seem like any ethanol in gas. I saved all the gas for further testing. I complained to Toyota corp but they stood by and supported the dealer diagnosis. Gas station insurance carrier denied the claim. Even if it was e85 gas, this shouldn't have all this impact on this Avalon and its computer system.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2004 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 06/07/2016

I took my car to gresham Toyota for a scheduled appointment on June 7 2016 at 9:00am. They told me that this service should not take more than 4 hours. To make story short, when I came at 6:00pm my car was still not done and they told me to leave it over night. I am a busy person and I need my car at all times. So nothing has been done to it because of their improper time management. I would like you to contact this dealership so they can take care of this recall immediately.

5 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2015 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/12/2015

I have a safety concern. I bought a new car a couple of weeks before this incident; this is what I experienced with the pcs system. It went off with warning buzzer, retracting the seat belts. To my surprise, the frontal car was more than 120 to 150 feet away!; I believe I was driving at about 50-55 mph. Since this is my first experience with the pcs system, I am not sure if this was normal or whether I should bring the car in for inspection. I took the car to the dealer; they gave me a Toyota case no. 152660366 ; mechanic said he performed health check on the vehicle and passed. I have not heard from either the dealer nor the manufacturer since then. Please advice. Additional info: vehicle in motion about 50 mph, city street driving, straight broad.

7 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 03/17/2015

My 2013 Toyota Avalon wiring harness was chewed on by a rodent . It caused problems with the running of the vehicle , the traction control , the cruise control and was operating on 5 cylinders . The dealers repair shop said that a rodent eat through the wires and Toyota would not warranty this problem . The car was parked in my driveway next to another Toyota product that is a 2006 and has never been chewed . I have driven Toyota's since 1988 and have never had this to happen . I think Toyota should be responsible for the damage if they are putting any type edible product in the vehicles they produce .

Auto locking system locks doors while doors are open or closed and you are getting out of car or puting grocers in if ur keys are in car it still locks I have been locked out many times it is very fustrighting and dangerous espically when ur daughter borrows your car and gets her9 month old baby locked in at 95 degrees at 11am in florida in the sun in a parking lot. The locksmith could not open the door cause every time he pop the lock the system would relock it self emedeately . This is a real problem . Some times it lockes itself in seconds or mins. It has a mind of its own.

10 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2002 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 09/24/2013

While driving home on 9/24/13 my check engine light came on, I drove right to the Toyota dealership. I was informed that the catalytic converter system was below threshold ( code p0420). This repair cost me $2,541. 27. I was told this would correct the problem with my air bag light flashing. After paying for this repair my air bag light continues to flash, even though the service representative said the diagnostic did not show a code. I was previously told the code for the air bag was b0113. Since purchasing this 2002 Avalon I have had to have the valve assy, idle replaced at a cost of 978. 63, this is in addition to regular scheduled services. I have owned other cars for the same length of time and miles as this Toyota and I have never had so many problems outside regular services with any of my other vehicles (Mazda and Acura) I have completely lost confidence in the Toyota brand. I believe there are defects with the electrical system in the 2002 Avalon.

12 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 11/10/2012

Vehicle was stopped on an uphill grade. When I began to accelerate on the grade the car would move a about three feet into the intersection but would not go further. A loud rumbling sound and the car vibrated but would not move. . Another car to my right had to stop to avoid hitting me. T think the traction control is designed poorly as I have read similar complaints online.

2008 Toyota Avalon February 16th and 17th my car jolted forward at stop light. I was able to stop the car but, it did go about 50ft before I could control the steering wheel and stop the car. I had this serviced at lake norman Toyota(704) 875-9199 earlier this month. Upon calling in today about my car, was informed the repair had not been completed. Why in the heck did the dealership tell me they could not find an issue and the car was drivable? my life and that of not only my family but others is at stake. I want action, truthfulness and accountability from Toyota and the USA.

15 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/19/2010

Problems with 20006 Toyota Avalon: on numerous occasions, the car has accelerated spontaneously and the brakes have not stopped the car when the brake pedal was depressed. Luckily, no accidents yet. Recent problems with engine malfunction and vehicle stability control malfunction. Toyota dealer denied any problems, except for "spark plugs" and oil line defect. Dealer charged $1,100. 00 (4 tires included) for work . Ongoing problem since car was purchased: gas cap is difficult to replace after fill-up. 16 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/17/2010

My husband got into the car the late afternoon of Jan. 17, 2010. Turned the auto on and I thought the engine was exploding. I was inside the house and ran outdoors. Something under the hood was making an extreme loud rattle. If you took an old cow bell and shook it for dear life, you would get an ideal of what I am talking about regarding the sound. The check engine light and the vsc light was on. My husband cut the engine off, checked under the hood and found nothing. I was going to call the dealership to see if they wanted to tow the car in. I started the car back up just to see what would happen and it purred like a baby. No lights on. I took it to the dealership and they checked it out, test drove it and could not find anything wrong. They said whatever it was must have reset itself. Now my question is what caused it to act like that and what would have happened if I had been driving. Was it in the computer or what. Will it happen again? these things I would like to have an answer.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/07/2010

My wife drove our 2005 Toyota Avalon into the parking lot at the tarzana, CA post office. She pulled into a parking spot facing the post office, took her foot off the accelerator pedal and started applying the brakes. The car surged forward, crossing a walkway and ran into a concrete block planter in front of the post office. The car suffered substantial body and radiator damage and is now being repaired at a cost of over $8000. The air bags did not deploy and my wife was not injured. The car was purchased new and has approximately 30,000 miles on it. It has been serviced on a regular basis and was in excellent condition prior to the accident. The car is kept garaged and is unlikely to have had condensation in the accelerator pedal system. The weather at the time of the accident was clear and sunny with the temperature in the 70's. The car is still undergoing repair and we anticipate receiving it sometime this week (2/2/10). We have contacted Toyota and they sent an inspector to look at the car on 1/27/10. We have had no report back from Toyota as to the cause of the problem. The floor mat was checked the day of the accident and it was firmly in place with the floorboard clips holding the mat to the floor. I checked the floor mat after the accident and it had not moved or interfered with the accelerator pedal. My wife could not have been moving forward at more than 5 miles/hour as she was just moving into the parking spot at the time of the accident. Obviously, the car must have accelerated to at least 15-20 miles/hour in the space of approximately 5 feet before running into the planter. It is beyond belief that the problem was caused by a sticking accelerator pedal.

Sept. 27, 2009, I was driving my 2006 Toyota Avalon into my garage at a slow speed. When I hit the brake, the car accelerated causing me to drive into the workbench, braking it and some wallboard behind it as well as damaging the car before the car finally came to a stop.

19 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 04/05/2009

I own a 2006 Toyota Avalon. . Light came on today (vsc) did not know what it was until driving on the freeway going 65 mph and all of a sudden my vehicle lost power and engine still idling. . . Pulled to the side of the road, very dangerous, no shoulder. I shut the car down and restarted it. . . Gave it a little gas and thought I could exit the freeway. . As I gave it gas trying to merge back into the slow lane with 65mph traffic. . It nearly caused a rear in collision with another vehicle. . My car cut out and then it went up to 50mph (cutting out the entire time). . Enough to get me off the freeway. Taking it to the dealer in the morning. Whatever the problem with the vsc. . . Will be determined in the morning at the Toyota dealer. Very dangerous.

20 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 01/05/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Avalon. While driving approximately 10 mph on a snow packed incline, the traction control system (tcs) activated voluntary. There was no response when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The failure occurs whenever the vehicle is proceeding up an incline on snow cover road surfaces. The authorized dealer stated that the traction control system was a manufacturer design, however, some vehicles are equipped with a mechanism that disengages the tcs. The failure mileage was 68,000 and current mileage was 69,000. Updated 2/23/09 when the consumer attempted to drive up a slight incline in snow, the drive wheel slipped which engage the tcs. The drive wheel was unable to regain traction which would have disengaged the tcs. The vehicle eventually came to a stop sliding backwards. There was no way to manualy disengage the tcs. If the tcs could be disengaged the vehicle could be handled more easily. Updated 02/27/09.

22 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Toyota Avalon

Failure Date: 02/18/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that the traction control device regulates the tires to maintain the same exact speed. When driving on a relatively small incline at 5 mph in inclement weather conditions, the traction control device slows down the speed of one tire to match the speed of the sliding tire. This abruptly decreases the overall speed of the vehicle. As a result, the risk of serious injury is increased. The dealer stated that some vehicles were built with an override system due to this failure. Unfortunately, the contact's vehicle was not built with the override mechanism. The failure mileage was 22,000.

The contact states this only happens when the vehicle has to be stopped when going up a hill. The engine will run fine when placed in neutral or reverse, but the engine shuts down when in drive. The dealer stated this is a feature of the vehicle and there is no repair for the failure. The failure mileage was 1,200 and the current mileage was 25,900.
