At highway speed (65+) the front end vibrates and can be felt in the steering wheel and the seats,.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

I have a 2010 Toyota Avalon which I like very much. Unfortunately, it has a design defect. There is a lever on the steering column that lets the driver control the height of the steering wheel. Unfortunately, the lever does not stay in the fixed position. Over time it drops down as a result of road vibration and permits the steering column to compress. This has happened to me twice. The first occasion was quite scary as I had to slow down rapidly. Fortunately, I was able to keep control of the vehicle. When it occurred a second time several months later, I was better prepared. I have reported the problem to the dealership where I purchased the car, but they said there was no problem. To avoid future incidents, I look at the lever almost everytime I get in the car. If it has started to go down, I pull it back up. I should not have to do this.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

I have a 2011 Toyota Avalon limited with a power rear sunscreen. The control bottons for the sunscreen are positioned adjacent to the trunk release switch on the dashboard located near the left knee of the driver which is hidden by the steering column. While driving I inadvertently pushed the trunk release button instead of the sunscreen button and the trunk popped open. I would think that the trunk release button should either be away from the power sunscreen switch or non operational while driving.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

The rear power sunshade control is next to the trunk button. I accidentially pushed the wrong button while driving and opened the trunk. . The trunk button should have a safety switch which doesn't allow the truck to be openned while the car is in drive.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

Hello im writing to complain about a couple of things. . . 1. Ive recieved an recall notice for my 2003 Toyota Avalon for "steering problem upper bracket". . And have, tryed to remedy this, only to find out Toyota, offers no courtesy vehicle ?. . . Or a definet time your vehicle will be repaired. . ? 2nd there is also another defect on this car, when going over "ruff" roads and braking, the car feels like its not breaking at all. . . Or like the brakes are slipping . . . ? is there a recall for this on the 2003 Avalon ? there have been no incidents to date, but I am very concerned.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

After getting off the freeway and driving on surface streets, I had a complete tire blow out. When pulled over the resulting tire was torn to shreds. The tire was purchased a little over 3 years ago with about 25,000 miles on it. The tires were recently maintained (rotated and aligned). There was a good amount of tread still remaining on tire. Fortunately, I was able to pull over into a parking lot and call for road assistance. However, because of the complete disintegration of the tire, my rim was totally damaged. I feel that because I regularly maintain my car including the tires, this should not have happened unless for a defect in the tire.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

2011 Toyota Avalon. Consumer states trunk opener switch is a safety hazard the consumer stated his vehicle has a sunshade and the switch is located next to the trunk opener. Unknown Or Other problem #10

Service engine and many other trouble indicators at the same time. Trouble found for $80. 00 loose gas cap. Day's latter found gas cap strap missing. Return to dealer who said the strap is what cause the poor seal so the tech removed it (as this happens all the time). Ask to purchase a replacemt strap - not available. Purchased new gas cap which comes with strap (a 2 cent item) cost $25. 00. Total cost for a known problem $100. Toyota knows about the little problem for most or all of its vehicle and has done nothing to correct it. It is a money maker for the dealers who never suggest looking at you gas cap. They connect it to anylizer for $80. 00. Remove the strap and send you on your way. Shame shame shame.

Consumer writes in regards to a recall on his 2006 Toyota Avalon the consumer stated he received a recall notice in the mail, but when he contacted the dealer to make an appointment, he was informed the next available appointment wasn't until may.

Unknown Or Other problem #12

Foot firmly on brake, shifting to reverse. Engine roared to life and vehicle thrust backward. Followed by four other episodes of sudden acceleration while foot on brake. The last of these resulted in light rear-end collision. No visible damage to struck pickup. Front grill of Avalon visibly crushed. These five incidents occurred over a period of about nine days. I have refused to drive it since.

2010 Toyota Avalon. Consumer writes to express that she has been unable to satisfactorily resolve this complaint with the dealership regarding a good faith effort to return vehicle. The consumer stated the salesman told her on more than one occasion the vehicle did not have an acceleration problem. The dealer stated they did not know the vehicle had a problem when the consumer purchased the vehicle. The consumer stated her issue was with the dealer mis-representing the facts about the vehicle. Updated 03/29/10. Updated 04/06/10.

Unknown Or Other problem #16

Sudden acceleration. When first starting the engine, it revved up to about 2,500 rpms. A second episode occurred a few days later when I was driving downhill and my foot was on the brake. The vehicle suddenly accelerated to about 40 mph. At no time was my foot on the accelerator pedal in either situation. In both of these instances, the sudden acceleration resolved within a few seconds. These incidents occurred after safety recall work was performed by Toyota on March 6, 2010. At this time, these are the only occasions where I experienced problems of this nature. I am concerned for the safety of my passengers and myself. I am in the process of reporting these problems to the dealership.

Unknown Or Other problem #17

I was coasting into a parking stall in my 2006 Toyota Avalon when all of the sudden it roared very loud and sped forward into the parking sign that fortunately stopped the car. Damage was done to the right front fender of the car. No injuries occurred. I hadan apppointment with the Toyota dealer for repairs to be done for the recall items that same day even though I had not received a letter from Toyota as of that date. The car damages was repaired at a body shop and then taken to the dealship for repair of the recall items. A letter from Toyota was finally received about the recall after the fact.

Unknown Or Other problem #18

1. My wife was driving into a parking space at the local costco store. 2. As she was slowing into the space, the accelerator seemed to jam and the car raced forward, jumped the concrete barrier, hit the parking pole and collided with a row of shopping wagons. 3. We have notified our Toyota dealer, the Toyota headquarters, our insurance who have said they may have to total the car, the car was towed to our dealer's auto shop.

Unknown Or Other problem #19

Consumer has a 2008 Toyota Avalon and concerned about the sudden acceleration problem with Toyota. The consumer was trying to decide if she should return or replace the vehicle.

Unknown Or Other problem #20

2006 Toyota Avalon. Hinges on bar in trunk that holds the trunk open broke off in novemeber 2009 (right after warranty expired). If you don't hold the trunk open with one hand it can slam down on you. Already have had it slam down on my head, arm and son's arm. Very painful, nice big bruises and mild concussion. Took it to Toyota and they were not very helpful at the end 2009 and then again in August 2010 and was told that I would have to pay at least $500. 00 to get it fixed. I only use the trunk now if I have someone else with me as it is hard to hold open with one hand while loading and unloading groceries. Would not recommend this car to anyone.

Unknown Or Other problem #21

Rapid acceleration when put in reverse. Went out of garage at uncontrollable speed. Over rode brakes. I was trying to avoid hitting cars and houses. Stopped across street in neighbor,s yard. I heard a loud when it stopped. I apparently turned the ignition off, because it did,t hit anything.

Unknown Or Other problem #22

2006 abalone with 63,000 miles, while I was driving in the highway my ac light flickered, then check engine light came on. I opened the hood there was no oil in the engine and the left side of the engine was covered with engine oil. There was a leak in the vvt oil line. Toyota issued a tech tip tv12310 in septemberof 2008 recommending replacement of the oil line, but there was no recall on it . I have no idea if my engine survived this incident it is still in the shop waiting for estimate .

Unknown Or Other problem #23

I have a Toyota Avalon that had a defected oil pipe. My car started leaking oil due to this defect, when I took the car to the dealership they were aware of the problem and new of the defect in Avalons and camrys at that time the part was on backorder for 3 weeks. All the people that I know who own a Avalon 2006 to 2009 have had the same problem. When I reported it to Toyota corporate the customer service person said they wer not aware of an issue. When I called the dealer prior to bring the car in they what the issue was when I described what the car was doing. At that time I did not know who to report this defect to.

Unknown Or Other problem #24

Recall and electrical repairs were done. : parts repaired and replacd are as followed. Unknown Or Other problem #25

I was driving my car to the local post office to deposit mail in an outside mailbox/receptacle. The location of the mailbox was in a parking lot with a drive through . I was traveling 5-10 miles an hour. As I approached the mailbox preparing to deposit the mail, the car "revved" up and I felt or experienced a surge in which I overshot the mailbox by 8-10 feet. I applied extra pressure to the brake. Then, I felt the engine slow down to normal. At that point, I had control of the car. I had to back the car up to get to the mailbox I was frightened wondering what could have caused this to happen. I was not as willing to drive my car after this occurrence as I could not be sure that the surge would not occur again. Not knowing what to do, I lessened the time I drove the car.

Unknown Or Other problem #26

Twice since we purchased this car, the torsion rod holders which hold the trunk lid open have failed, causing the lid to crash down abruptly. The first time occurred at about the date shown above. The problem was repaired. The second incident occurred on April 4, 2011(46,000 miles) shortly after my wife lifted the lid to remove some groceries. She narrowly escaped serious injury when it slammed down. She could have been killed. This is not acceptable. There must be a defect in the design which has caused this to occur twice. Toyota should be forced to provide a permanent solution to this problem which I'm sure is not just limited to my vehicle.

Unknown Or Other problem #27

While driving down the freeway in my 2006 Toyota Avalon limited, I reached down on the left side of the dashboard to activate a shade screen for the back window in order to defray glare from headlights and I pressed the trunk button by mistake. (which is located very near by) the trunk opened while I was driving caused me to divert my attention from the road momentarily trying to figure out what had happened. I feel that this is a dangerous feature, allowing the trunk to be opened by accident while driving. I was told that there is a switch in the glove box that will lock out the trunk button. The problem with that is, we have a Smart key system and there is no way to open the trunk from the outside of the car when that by-pass switch is used.

Unknown Or Other problem #28

I have a 2005 Avalon and there is a hesitation between the pushing of the brake pedal and the actual braking of the car, the same is true for the gas pedal. The service manager at the dealership went on a test drive with me and told me that these actions were found in other Toyota products and there was not yet a fix on them. I had taken the car back three times and on the final repair trip the service department wrote that the car was to manufacturer specs. I have filed a complaint with Toyota and have not received a response as of yet.

Unknown Or Other problem #29

We leased a new 2005 Toyota Avalon. Immediately, after driving 6 miles,we started hearing a clunk from the left rear. I called Toyota and they said they would check it when I came back to put the spoiler on. They were able to duplicate the noise and kept the car for several days. I did get corporate Toyota involved because this dealership has been untrustworthy since day one when the lease was written up wrong-they called and said they needed to replace the left rear lower sub frame and bushings because they were worn. How could it be worn if the noise started after 6 miles-by then I had driven 400 miles. They told me they had to order the parts but that the car was safe to drive. When I went to pick up the car,I asked 2 other people, the advisor and the mechanic if the car was safe to drive because I was going to drive it from san francisco to los angeles, they both said yes. As they were handing me the keys to leave, another mecjanic came runing over and said the car was dangerous to drive and I could not have it. While I was very glad the other mechanic caught the mistake,he said no one had written on my paperwork that the car was unsafe to drive,I did indeed drive a dangerous car that was not safe to drive for 2 weeks. While if this was a used car,I probably would not be writing this, but it was a brand new car! what if something would have happened to me while driving prior to me taking it in,and -god forbid-the other mechanic did not catch the mistake- I thought when we bought new cars they are to be safe to drive!.

Unknown Or Other problem #30

Both visors (l&r) have broken. When the visor is latched out of the way there is undue stress on the hinge and anchor causing the hinge assembly to break apart . This stress also causes the anchor that to holds the visor at rest to rip out. This is clearly is a desgin flaw and should be repaired by Toyota. I was told out of warranty at 39,000 miles, sorry.

Unknown Or Other problem #39

Unknown Or Other problem #40

My air bag light comes on 1 or 2 times a month, while driving. It stays on for 15-30 seconds. My next problem is that my engine check light came on when I started my car in 11/99. I took it to the shop and it was a faulty fuel injector. This was repaired but I don't feel this should have happen to a new car at such an early age. Also around 16,000 miles they had to replace my rotors. This also should not have happen at this early age.

Unknown Or Other problem #41

Have complained several times that driver's seat seems to go from one side to another as though it was loose. Dealer said seat not loose. Also dash and headlight went out when driving home one evening. Could't get them to go back on. After car was in driveway doe 5 minutes went out and tried and then they went on. Unknown Or Other problem #51

As noted on page 52 of the February 2000 issue of consumer reports, there is an "annoying green reflection from the windshield at night. " this is caused by the top of the dashboard not extending far enough to block light from the gauges and the radio from striking the windshield. In addition, when the sun is at just the right angle behind the car, sunlight strikes the bottom of the clear plastic cover for the gauges and is reflected onto the windshield and into the driver's eyes. The same thing happens at night when light from headlights behind the car are reflected from the clear plastic gauge cover onto the windshield and into the driver's eyes. I have found that placing a piece of paper on top of the dash, extending two more inches towards the driver blocks most of the gauge light and reflections from the gauge cover onto the windshield. This is a major design fault. The tops of the dashes on almost all other cars extends further out to block light from the gauges striking the windshield. These lights and especially the reflections that I described can be very bright and very distracting, which could result in accidents. Toyota should either provide a new top to their dash or a dash top extender (that has been tested and found to be safe in accidents). In addition they should install a switch for turning off the light from the radio at night (so owner's who find this light reflected on the windshield distracting can turn it off), and they should provide a non-reflective coating for the top of the wood grain trim on the central vent, where sunlight can also be reflected onto the windshield. This light in particular can be extremely bright. All of these reflection in windshield problems are very annoying and distracting and should be repaired as soon as possible.

Unknown Or Other problem #52

Dashboard dosent come out far enough to keep the instrument panel lights from reflecting onto the windshield, putting a bright light on the windshield in front of you eyes.

Unknown Or Other problem #53

I own a 1996 Toyota Avalon with 53k miles on it. It started consuming oil and blowing smoke on cold starts over the winter. I have done numerous maintenance and repairs to rectify the problem. Before then, the check engine light came on 15months ago so I asked my Toyota dealer to check the engine. They did some minor checks and turned the light off. Currently my car has been diagnosed as "engine internall damaged needs engine" both the service manager mike and the district service manager acknowledged sludge in engine that caused diagnosed engine problems. I have been trying to resolve with Toyota corporate personell as I became aware of the 1997-2002 Toyota vehicles with the same engine that are currently being repaired by Toyota under the "spa campaign" that Toyota said they worked out with your organization. I have been offered 50% repair from Toyota corporate despite being accused of neglecting my vehicle(I provided Toyota with all of my scheduled mainteneance and oil change receipts at well within their recommended time/mileage intervals. I am aware of many other 1996 Toyota Avalon owners that are experiencing he same problems/false accusations an grief from Toyota. Some have received full payment for their engine repairs. Toyota needs to take responsibility for the oil gelling(sludge) problems many of their vehicles are having. I feel that my 3 small children and I are at risk of serious personal injury due to the problem with Toyotas 6 cyl engine. I would like to know if there is any assistance you can give me and why 1996 Avalons are not included in the "spa" program when it is the same engine and same engine problems occurring. Please help. Monica at Toyota said it was with your organization, guidance and approval that the current "spa" campaign was implemented. Toyota needs to stand up tall and support their loyal customers in good times and bad. It is way too easy to be a "fair weather friend" . Now we are "neglectful owners" hmmm.
