One problem related to differential unit has been reported for the 1997 Toyota Camry. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The transmission would hestitate when applying the gas. Would go short distances and make clanking/scraping noises. Pulled into gas station & was informed to tow vehicle to mechanic. Thought it was differential. There was a lot metal inside transmission.
