15 problems related to engine and engine cooling have been reported for the 1999 Toyota Camry. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The vehicle upon start had got heavy. It would only inch upon heavy acceleration. Then suddenly at turning, retained normality and burst forward.
On my 1999 Toyota solara I have to use high beams just to see, and my car went 90 mph before slowing up,my handicapped son was so scared! then it just cut off while driving. He had to coast to safety and now it needs a new motor !! recalls about these problems pertain to the 1999 solara and are critical. This is twice life was endangered and Toyota is doing absolutely nothing to help resolve this very serious issue . I guess they wait till someone dies in an accident before Toyota does what they should do to keep the public safe!!! my car is just sitting there , how much does Toyota care when they don't even replace the petal or excelleration problem?? let there family member be endangered and see ! but Toyota is slacking extremely on the quality of their vehicles!!! they need to be investigated for the dangerous cars they are putting on the road . And with no help from Toyota when a serious issues happens . They should be discrased by their poor performance to jepordize the american citizens . . Just to put more money in their pocket . Now I have no car to take my disabled son to his dr. !!! they have no idea how they effect a persons life who has limited funds and many medical needs. The dangerous situations we were put through driving the Toyota car scares me badly! I used to have faith in their product . But it's very sad when they have lost their caring about their product and making the american family happy and more important safety!!!! these dangerous vehicles should be stopped!! just one vehicle could hit a school bus full of precious children , leaving parents and grandparents and precious brothers and sisters left devastated for years to come!!! the pain goes on and on and effects many generations possibly thousands and thousands of innocent people over the greed of money from the Toyota big wigs !!!.
1999 Toyota Camry le 4cyl starter failed to disengage from flywheel causing fire. The starter kept running burning it out and also burning the positive cable to the battery. Damage to the battery is under investigation. I was sitting parked in a parking lot with the radio and the air on when I observed smoke coming from the engine then started to come into the car thru the air conditioning. I turned the car off but the smoke continued and the fire dept was called. After looking at the internet this seems to be a widely known issue with multiple postings. I have not seen a recall on this. It needs to be investigated. My insurer said that my claim will be denied due to mechanical failure. Toyota needs to he held accountable.
Headed south on interstate when burst into flame.
My daughter was driving 1999 Toyota Camry solara. When crossing highway at intersection, the car hesitated on acceleration and she was struck on the passenger side rear. She states she had plenty of time to cross but "the car just wouldn't go". Also, despite impacts from several angles, no airbags deployed.
At about 3 pm I was driving north on the on ramp of route 15 north at mira mesa. Suddenly my car accelerated and would not stop. I moved to the right where there was room. And despite pushing hard on the brake, I could not stop the car. I moved to the guard rail hoping to slow the car, which IL did, but the car bounced off the rail and side swiped a white Lexus. Then the car came to a stop. A workman saw the accident and confirmed the pattern of what occurred. He checked with me and the driver of the other car and we both said there was no injury. He refused to identify himself. Both cars were able to drive away without difficulty. When I got home I checked that the floor mats were in the proper place and not near the accelerator. I feel that there was a defect in the operating system of the car to cause this sudden acceleration.
On March 2, the engine on my Toyota Camry threw a rod, and resulted in a terminal failure of the engine. I have maintained this car since I bought it, supposedly "certified used" from roseville Toyota, in August 2002. I pleaded with Toyota motor corporation for assistance but they said that my warranty had expired 2 months prior to this incident. Due to extreme strains on my time, I had the engine rebuilt for nearly $3700. Upon driving the car for less than 200 miles after having the engine rebuilt, the transmission has failed and needs to be replaced at an estimated $1500. I do not have time or money to continually repair this car and have asked for assistance from both roseville Toyota and Toyota motor corporation both. It was recently brought to my attention that the Toyota that I purchased from roseville Toyota was never certified to begin with. They misleadingly sold me a car under the false impression that it was certified when it was not. I place the blame for the recent failures and resultant repair fees on roseville Toyota. If I had known that this particular car was not a certified Toyota vehicle, I would never have taken it off the lot and consequentially experienced any of the problems described above. However, I was falsely mislead to believe that I was getting a certified vehicle and drove off happily. None of the parts repaired or replaced are available.
Vehicle consistently dies on the road. There were more than four attempts made to repair the warranty problem.
Engine blown on my Toyota solara.
While traveling on 287 north around edison, NJ, my 1999 Toyota Camry caught on fire without any warning. The fire started from underneath the vehicle. At the time the firefighters responded, 60 percent of the vehicle has been engulfed on fire.
While driving at 75 mph the vehicle's engine blew up and caused a vehicle fire. The dealer was notified.
Sludge.
My engine seized. I've received 2 letters from Toyota dated 2/2002 and 6/2002 regarding oil gel. Car was towed to dealership- dealership had car "inspected by a no name Toyota district rep" dealership said not oil gel rep agrees contacted corporate they agreed with dealership. Sight unseen by customer. Napervile Toyota 1st goodwill repair included 50% of parts and service. After persuing they agreed to labor cost. Toyota mass produced an engine with small valve and learned it was a problem. Corrected it and thousand of consumers are being accuse of low lubricant and not manitenance there automobile correctly .
While driving on a downward incline, the consumer switched the gears to down shift when the vehicle completely shut down. All systems failed. The dealer was notified. Ph scc.
Engine oil sludge buildup at 107000 miles. Other manufacturers don't have this problem. Toyota wants maintenance receipts/oil purchase receipts, proof of ownership. Toyota wants to reimburse, if there is an oil gelling related problem. How many do-it-yourselfers keep oil receipts? with today's oils, sludge should not be a problem.
