Brake Electric Antilock problems of the 2002 Toyota Camry

Brakes have a long stopping distance; even though it has been in the shop several times for this. Mechanics can't fix it. This car has been like this since it was brought new.

Applied brakes to make a sudden stop at 25 mph. The brakes went all the way to the floor(spongy) and also abs got activated but did not stop. It hit vehicle in front and stopped without any damage. This happened couple of times earlier, but not involved any accident. Before this accident, got the brakes adjusted 3 times at dealer for low pedal. After the repair was done, the brakes still remained the same. On bumpy roads abs gets activated directly. I paid fine for the accident for Toyota flaw. Will get rid of this Camry if Toyota does not recall.

Dt contact stated the vehicle surged forward on two different occasions. When putting the foot on the brakes to slow the vehicle down and to come to a stop, the vehicle surged forward. The first time this happened it caused the contact's vehicle to rear end another vehicle. The vehicle is at the dealers now. At this point the dealer is not sure what is wrong with the vehicle.

Failure of abs on 2002 Toyota Camry. This problem caused an accident. Toyota blamed the incident on worn tires.

Have very serious concerns with abs system on this automobile. These brakes on numerous occasions over the ownership of this car, including today (my wife driving), have acted extremely erratically, with excessive pulsating and chattering performance that I would not qualify as a rotor issue. This problem has occurred a minimum of 30-50 times since the car was new, has been reported on at least two occasions to the dealer (bernardi. Framingham, MA) during routine service, and has been discounted as a non-problem. I disagree, and am to the point that I feel this problem could lead to a serious automobile accident if not corrected.

Sudden vehicle acceleration while pulling in to a parking space, resulting in a crash into a tree, despite the fact that the anti-lock brake system was activated. Significant vehicle damage, but no injury. A second occurrence while stationary; no vehicle damage, just very discomfited owners. When the brake pedal was depressed to slow down or stop the vehicle the anti-lock brakes engaged. This made it difficult to stop or slow down the vehicle; which almost causd several accidents. The dealership has performed a diagnostic test , but no failure code was found. The dealership indicated that that was the way the abs was suppose to operate.

When abs brakes are applied consumer can feel it, then it will disengage, and the vehicle will continue to move forward. Consumer took vehicle to dealer numerous times and was told that the brakes were operating as designed.

My abs brakes fade intermittentl but only with the a/c on. They fade occasionally during stops and light pressure on pedal. They also feel spongy all the time. Dealer tells me that there is nothing wrong and, all the above, are normal operation.

My wife was slowing for a stop sign off a highway exit ramp when"the brakes did not stick and the car lurched foreward' striking a stopped vehicle. She told the police she was only going 5-10mph at most, but the other vehicle suffered over $500. 00 in damages. This was in good road conditions where she travels daily. Prior to this I had told the dealer that the brakes felt mushy and rarely gave confidence. The service records state the following:complaint-brake pedal travels a long way to stop. Reply-brakes function as designed. Normal travel for this type of brake system. [3000 miles later] complaint-brake pedal feels like it loses pressure when stopping. Worried car will not stop at times. Reply-improper adjustment rear drum brake. Obviously there is more wrong than an out of adjustment rear brake. Either the brake system or a combination of the brake system and acceleration system are faulty in this vehicle.

When applying the brakes on my 2002 Toyota Camry, the car continues to lunge forward. I almost hit a school bus this morning.

02/23/04, dealer's invoice tocs12154: 04/19/04, dealer's invoice tocs14794. The cd and tape player went bad before the car was two years old. I did not discover this until there was 37,000 miles on the car. The warranty ran out at 35,000 miles. The cd/tape player part of the radio was not even used for a couple of months, so I was not aware there was a problem until after the warranty expired. The dealer charged me $250. 00 for a "used" radio they ordered from the manufacturer (a new radio was going to cost $850. 00). They were kind enough to not charge me for the installation. Since Toyota does not make the radios installed in their vehicles, Toyota would not help me with my problem. 03-08-04, dealer's invoice tocs12900:I have a problem with the brake system that concerns me more than the radio malfunction. There is a viabration when I slow down to stop the car. I took my car to the dealer to have this checked. They recommended that the front rotors be turned (for $170. 00) and that the rear brake drums be resurfaced (for $127. 50) by the time the dealer checked this for me, the car had 38,363 miles. The warranty expired at 35,000 miles! neither the dealer nor Toyota will do anything about the brakes. They considered it to be "normal" wear an tear. I have never had a radio go bad in any other car I have owned. My Subaru imprezza is over 10 years old! the imprezze still had its original brakes!.

While driving at about 35 mph, I placed my foot on the brake to slow down a bit. The car did not slow down, instead it speed up to about 75 mph. I hit the brakes harder, but the car would not stop. I quickly pulled on the hand brake and shifted the gear to park, then shut off the engine. I hade the vehicle towed to a Toyota dealer. The dealer could not duplicate the problem, so they were not able to make a repair. I have also filed a complaint with Toyota.

While driving at 25 mph and entering a turn lane consumer pressed the brakes and vehicle never slowed down. But, surged forward, and collided with the vehicle in front. There were no injuries. There is a federal investigation concerning this problem.

While applying brakes vehicle surged forward without warning. As a result, vehicle collided into a another vehicle. No injuries reported.

On four different occasions, ive had trouble with the anti-lock brakes. The first two incidents were on snowy and rainy roadways, so I figured it was the road conditions that caused the problem. The third time I was on ideal road conditions, including no sand on the roadway. I braked as usual but the car did not stop in the normal distance and continued to travel longer than the normal. I took it to the dealership and they said there was nothing wrong with the car. It happened for the fourth time on my regular route to work. I applied the brakes as usual and the brakes engaged, but did not hold. I was neither sliding nor skidding, but continued to travel along at about the same rate of speed. Since I was coming to a major roadway, I was forced to put it in park to stop the car or I would have easily traveled across two lanes of traffic. I took it to the dealership, again. They inspected it all over and said this is normal for abs brakes.

Brake pedal on 2002 Camry touches floor while I am stopped at light. No accidents yet, but I am afraid to drive car. Dealer says this is normal. (low brake pedal) I have scheduled another checkup for the brakes. What can I do?.

The vehicle exhibits poor braking during hard stop. Brake pedal goes to floor. During normal braking, brake pedal is very low. When you pump brakes, the brake pedal sinks. The dealer has checked brakes and says this is normal condition.

The abs braking system would come on at different times , making them defective. The manufacture stated that system was working ineffectively, however it was because of the worn tires. The consumer was involved in an accident where he rear ended another vehicle. The consumer would jam on the brakes as hard as he could. They worked for a short period of time, slowing the vehicle down to about 10 mph then releasing completely and caused the vehicle to roll into another vehicle.

On two occasion since owning this vehicle this problem has occured. At highway speeds (70 mph) if the brakes are applied strong to avoid a collision you lose control of the vehicle. The last incident occured while my wife was driving. The vehicle spun out of control 180 degrees across three lanes of freeway and ended up facing oncoming traffic on the shoulder. When applying the brakes in the described fashion the rear of the car begins to skid into an out of control situation. Dt.

Anti-lock brake system is entirely too sensitive. The brake system kicks in at speeds below twenty, on dry uneven pavement, iron grates and any sought of bump in the road. The has almost resulted in numerous accidents. Was told by a salesmen this is a problem on 2002 Camry's. Have had brakes checked on numerous occasion by Toyota service technicians but no problem is ever found.

While driving at 45 mph brakes locked up, and consumer lost control, resulting in an accident. Contacted dealer.

While traveling at 40 mph consumer applied brakes and pedal went to the floor, tried emergency brake and nothing happened. Consumer had to turn off engine and coast to a stop. Dealer stated they can't duplicate problem.

Consumer states that the abs is very sensitive causing it to be faulty.

When applying brakes during normal braking procedure, there is an extended stopping distance, the pedal feels normal. This happens intermittently. Vehicle has been examined 4 times by dealer, cannot find cause of problem. *akconsumer is afraid to operate the vehicle because of the extended stopping distance. Toyota dealers state that the problem must be verified before any work can be done to the vehicle. No problem has been found. The dealer considers everything to be operating in its normal function.

At a constant cruising speed, the automatic transmission abruptly jerks (presumably shifts) when accelerator pedal is released slightly. A clunking noise can also be heard at this time. The abs actuator also had to be replaced earlier as it was producing a clunking noise after the engine was started and the steering wheel was turned sharply at low speeds.

Brakes were mushy straight off of the new car lot. Two days after buying the car I came upon a traffic light that turned red while I approached. I pressed the brake pedal, the pedal went to the floor, the car wouldn't stop and went right on through the intersection. Luckily, no cars crossed the intersection when I went through it. Brought the car back to the dealer . Their service dept checked the car and said nothing was wrong. I had them bleed the brake system and then took the car home. After they bled the brakes, the steering wheel now vibrates when the brakes are pressed, plus the brakes are still mushy. Sometimes when stopped, the brake pedal will go to the floor when pressure is applied. Nlm.

Front abs brakes lock on wet road conditions, causing loss of control. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Please provide further details.

When applying brake pedal goes almost to the floor before there is any braking action. Brake pedal feels spongy, extended stopping distance. Vehicle has been taken to dealer numerous times, claims this is normal for vehicle.

Starting the first week ihad the vehicle the brakes were "not right" and seemed to malfunction intermittently about every two days until I finally went through an intersection and was unable to stop. The dealer calims it's the abs but I've driven abs vehicles for the last 5 yrs without experiencing this. The service dept was able to duplicate the problem once and still claims there is nothing wrong w/ the car. I am afraid to drive the vehicle and have written a complaint to Toyota corporate who claims therte has been no other complaints of this nature.

After the car has stopped the brakes bleed off and the brake pedal goes clear to the floor!!.

When stopped brake pedal fades to the floor when pressure applied. Cause unknown, car has been back to the dealer twice for same problem, have been advised vehicle is safe to drive. Mechanic test drive claims emergency stop okay.
