Bough the car from a Toyota dealer 8/2013 with 36k miles. Yes, very low mileage, 36,000 miles. On 11/2015 on my way to work while I was in the free way, I've noticed my temperature gauge was starting to go up, I was lucky enough to exit out of the freeway and was able to take it to one of the mechanic I usually use after I was able to add water. The mechanic did not even looked at the car after I told him what happen, his response was you need a new engine. The car has 52. 5k miles on the original engine. Had a blown head gasket issue from strip head bolts. The problems that could have created an unsafe condition is if I did not noticed my temperature gauge and the car suddenly stall while I was on the freeway, I could have gotten hit by another vehicle. I did a research about the 2. 4l 2azfe engines and found out this was a very common problems with this engines. I've called the dealer and even Toyota corporate office to see if they could help me out, I am pretty much out of my luck. My mom car was a 06 scion tc with same engine, 136k, 1/18, blown head gasket due to strip head bolts. I ended up buying rebuilt engines for both cars and I did not buy it from the dealer. I had a 92 Camry, 2. 2l I was able to get the car to almost 300k with original engine.
My 2002 Toyota Camry had stalled-engine problem these years. Most of the problem happened when the car stopped at the traffic red light or stop sign. When I apply the brake to slow down and waiting at the traffic lights or at the stop sign, my Camry car engine abruptly ceases operating and stops turning. I have to turn the key and start the engine again. This problem happened a lot of times these years and give me a big trouble when a lot of other cars waiting behind me. It's not safe and be dangerous especially in heavy traffic. This stalled engine problem just happened this morning when I sent my son to the baseball game.
Wife driving 2002 Camry for smock inspection. I am following behind. Camry stalls - engine just dies. Steering is locked. Wife stopped and tried to restart. After ~2mins, car restarted. Continued ~2 miles and engine dies again, steering again locks. Wife able to start again. After car starts, vsc and trac off lights are now on. Took car to Toyota dealer next day. A skid control computer is down per Toyota. Toyota unable to duplicate engine dying, but admit faulty computer could be cause. Skid control computer costs $1453 to replace + $xxx for labor. I have read this is a common issue for 2002 Toyota so am filing a complaint. Why has Toyota not recalled/fixed this yet? if this occurred on freeway, steering wheel lockup at 55+ mph? are they crazy?.
I own a 2002 Toyota Camry v6 le with a mileage reading of about 115000. I do regular oil changes and all necessary services. However off lately the car has randomly started to stall in the middle of road while being driven. This has started to be a big problem and I hesitate to drive the car for long distance. The car would suddenly die in the middle of road specially when I stop for a light or stop sign and then would refuse to start again. I have to keep the gas pedal depressed in order for the car to stay idle and not die. After about 5-10 mins the car would again start up and work normally. I've had this problem about three times this past 2 weeks and its scary now to even drive this car anywhere. I took it to a mechanic where I get all services done and he says everything is fine, but then I had two stalls after the visit. Problem is that it stalls randomly and when I take it to mechanic, it performs quiet well with no problems at all. I read today in motortrend website that NHTSA is enquiring about some Toyota vehicles regarding this same issue and was wondering if these incidents are related? thanks.

While driving 80 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer managed to pull over and had the vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The battery was replaced but the Toyota dealership refused to reimburse the towing cost. They won't pay for the 7 miles towing charge because the vehicle was not towed to the nearest dealer.
I have a 2002 Toyota Camry xle, since I got the car new it started to lunge several times while sitting at stop lights/signs. I went to two different Toyota dealers and was told that the car is running as manufactured. I said this can cause an accident. They said nothing was wrong. Also, since I bought the car new it wants to stall when coming to a stop. Again, no dealer will help. Something is wrong but the dealers won't help. I do not have time to keep running to dealers, that is why I bought a new car. There is a definite problem with these cars. As times goes by, it's getting worse, especially in warm weather conditions.
