2 Tire problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2012

I bought 4 new pirelli cinturato p5 tires for my 2002 Toyota Camry in February of 2010 from discount tire. I was told that these tires they easily last for 85,000 miles before having to replace them. Since then I gone back to discount tire to have them regularly rotated and balanced. Last tire rotation was in the month of December 2011. When I went to get my tires rotated and balanced again on 3-23-2012, I was told that two of the tires are already worn out and other two are close to getting worn out and I would be better off to get new tires to keep me safe while driving. I informed the sales personnel that these tires are just two years old and with less than 27,000 miles since purchased. He mentioned to me that tires many a times do not give the mileage they are rated for. In my case, I got less than 1/3rd of the rated mileage. With my driving pattern (12,000 miles/year), I would have expected these tires to last for about six years as I take good care (rotating, balancing, and alignment) of them. 4 Tire problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Camry. The vehicle has sumitomo tires. While accelerating from a stop or driving up to 55 mph, the vehicle would hydroplane. The contact noticed that the tread was bald on the one year old tires. The vehicle was driven to a sears repair shop for a routine tire rotation three times within one year. On each visit, the mechanic stated that the tires were not defective. The manufacturer was not notified. The dot number, tire line, and tire size were unknown. The current mileage was 142,000 and failure mileage was 136,444. Updated 03/12/09. Updated 03/13/09.

5 Tire problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

My 2002 Toyota Camry is the worst car I have ever driven in snowy conditions. It has no traction, fishtails, can barely make it up hills, etc. A mechanic (not at Toyota) also pointed out the tires were wearing unevenly and very quickly (I have put fewer than 20,000 total miles on this car). Last week I was coming around a corner in the snow (at about 10 mph) hit a slippery patch and the car seized up completely. I slid across the road and into another car. Now looking at the NHTSA site, I see that I am not alone, and that the tires that come with the car from the factory are not meant for all weather driving. I am outraged. Like others I bought this car because of its reputation as a "safe" family car. I called the service manager at my dealer who basically said "too bad. Toyota is not doing anything with tires at this time. " he did admit, however, that the tires on the car are considered 'high performance' and are not meant to be used in the snow. Great. I too have an appointment to buy $500 worth of new tires tomorrow. I feel Toyota should pay for some if not all of this. Not likely. It is also not likely that I will ever buy another Toyota. People need to be informed of this very dangerous situation. It could easily be life-threatening.

6 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2005

The contact owns a 2002 Toyota Camry. The vehicle has b. F. Goodrich traction t/a tires, size 205/65r15 (na). The tread on all four tires has cracks on the first and last rows. B. F. 9 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2004

2002 Toyota Camry lev6 w/15" rims. Car is unstable at high speeds. We are now on our third set of tires and the car only has 21,000 miles on it. First set (continental) became bald on outside edge of both front tires at 9000 miles. Tires were rotated (front to rear, rear to front) and front end alignment was done. Tires became bald on outside edge after only 8000 miles (17000 total miles on car). Dealer replaced all 4 tires with dunlop and I had to pay for a four wheel alignment. After 2500 more miles car again became unstable at high speeds. It started at about 75 mph and as the tires wore it became unstable at lower speeds 55-65 mph. The dealer replaced all four tires again with michelin this time and did another front end alignment. Now with only 1200 miles on the new tires it is again becoming unstable at high speeds 65-75 mph. We would like Toyota to acknowledge the problem and come up with a solution.

10 Tire problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2004

Original tires do not function on road if any light rain or snow is present. Hazardous.

11 Tire problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2004

Purchased 2002 Toyota Camry xle on 4/16/02. The car was equipped with bridgestone potenza p215/60r16 94v re92 tires. Experienced very poor performance this past winter. Traction very bad in winter conditions and also wet roads w/o snow. Brought car to the dealer for service on 4/14/04 with 19. 020 miles on it and was told I had to replace the tires due to excessive tread wear. I refused to pay for four new tires and replace the front two for my own safety. I have sent a letter to bridgestone & I am awaiting a reply. Other numbers on the tires were 34350 exbm 25816-2 e 92 mz tread wear 160.

12 Tire problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2004

Complaint regarding tire equipment on 2003 Toyota Camry. Firestone denied honoring the warranty for the defective tires. The authorized bridgestone and firestone dealer informed the consumer if he could not produce the receipts to show that the tires were rotated every 5000 to 6000 the warranty would not be covered. The consumer's cell#: 973. 462. 0888.

13 Tire problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2004

While driving at low speeds or parking in a parking space the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The dealer inspected the vehicle six different times but could not duplicate or correct the problem. See voq 10062883. On one occasion while parking the vehicle surged forward and hit a post (no damage reported). The consumer had to replace the tires at 21000 miles because they would not move while on ice or snow.

14 Tire problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2003

The tire showed signs of excessive wear on the inside and outside of them. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealership and had the tires rotated, balance and aligned. Continental touring contact as lsize# p205/65r15 dot# acur3k42702.

15 Tire problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2003

Since I purchased this car it has been problems, first it was the brakes vibrating, took it in and right away the dealer knew what it was without me even explaining it to him, they fixed that in 2 trips. Then it was the rotten egg smell, they could not find anything wrong. (then why does my car stink when I try to get power out of the engine?) then it was the knocking and pinging in the engine, (I was told that they could not duplicate the problem, but my octane level was low to upgrade my gas. The manufacturers provided owners manual states 87 octane gas or higher, I already use 89 octane and have since the day I bought the car, so why should I have to spend money on higher priced gas when the car is only 1 year old and the engine should not make any noises. Now it is the tires and alignment the alignment is completely off that the tires are destroyed with only 17,250 miles on them, yet the car shows no sign of the alignment being off, it drives straight stays in one lane and the steering wheel is even straight, so how after one year with low miles is the alignment off and the tires are destroyed, and why was it unnoticed when I had my tires balanced and rotated 2 months earlier at 15,000 miles? by the same dealership! I feel that this car has alot of problems that the manufacturer does not want to address, look at how many other people are having the same problems, and we are all told that it is wear and tear or that there is no problem at all, well then why are we all having the same problems? I called Toyota's main office logged a complaint and was told that someone would get back to me, it has been 3 days now and not one call has come my way! I feel that I should not have to pay for the repairs to this car since it is a nation wide problem, especially since it is a $27000. 00 car that has depreciated in value by more than $7000. 00 in less than one year, what happened to Toyota's retaining there value? I wish everybody much luck with their issues.

16 Tire problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2003

The standard tires on the 2002 Toyota Camry se are horrible on snow. Whenever there is any snow on the ground, the car has absolutely no traction. It can't even make it up my driveway.

17 Tire problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2003

Regarding 2002 Toyota Camry. Started experiencing pulling and bumping sensations from front soon after 5000 miles. Had tires rebalanced and rotated, problem continued. Took car to dealer who said alignment was off and supposedly corrected. No change, in fact, steering wheel was still slightly off center. Took car back to dealer who said nothing was wrong but did another alignment, this time straightening out the steering wheel. Problem did not go away. We are now at 19000 miles having just rotated the tires again in hopes it would solve the problem, but it has not. Additionally, we have recently noticed poor braking traction even at slow speeds in wet conditions and a spinning out of a wheel going around corners at slow speed. We are frustated by the inability of Toyota north of mt. Kisco, NY to solve this problem.

18 Tire problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2003

I own a 2002 Camry se, and it came originally equipped with bridgestone turanzas on it. These tires are worthless in the snow and rain. I took my complaint to the Toyota dealer, and they said that the tires were "performance" tires and all they could do was help me get a discount on another set of tires. That is not acceptable, as this type of (family) car should not have come equipped with a dangerous tire. I complained to the bridgestone dealer as well, and they told me that these were very hard tires, and are the type that would normally be put on a corvette, or similar sports car. I was forced to replace the tires at my expense, with only 21,000 miles on them. The car would not stop in the snow, and would slip at takeoff in the rain as well. These tires should have never been put on this car. I am disappointed that Toyota would put this type of tire on a Camry.

19 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2003

While attempting to accelerate vehicle slid backward. Tires do not have any traction on snow or ice and feels they are unsafe. Ph.

20 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2003

I bought a 02 Toyota Camry se last year. I live in michigan and in the winter it snows quite a bit. Generally normal (not snow) tires work fine in the winter. However, the new tires that come with the se are not meant for winter weather at all. They perform terribly even in the least amount of now and skid. I had several incidents where I almost had fatal accidents. Luckily I did not get into a crash as I drive extremely slowly. I called the dealer and they did not do anything. However, they replaced the tires for a few se buyers but did not do so for me. I think Toyota knows of this problem and have refused to do anything about it. I think they should not sell the se with the bridgestone tires that they currently do. You can expect a buyer to replace all four new tires when they have only 2000 miles on them. This is a safety hazard for people who do not realize the problem before they buy the vehicle. I hope you will investigate this matter and help all the se buyers.

21 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2003

2002 Toyota Camry noticeable pulling to the left after regular tire rotation, alignment. Premature wear of tires to the point of replacement at 21,xxx miles. Fter researching on Toyota message boards, this appears to be a common and potentially serious issue that needs to be addressed by Toyota.

22 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2003

I have 2002 Camry se v6. The car came with brigestone tires that were totally uncontrollable under very little snow conditions. Driving this car on a couple of snow days gave me the scare of my life. I tried to contact the dealer and Toyota many times and did not get any help. I have spend $300. 00 traded my new tires to different tires. The traction of the vehicle greatly improved. I simply can not believe a 'reputed' car company can s. . . Customer like this when they spend $30,000 on a brand new car. The second problem I have is that the car 'wobbles' while driving at all speeds. May complaints to the dealers got the same response: "the road are to be blamed, nothing wrong with the car". Recently I got the wheel balance/alignment done. Not much difference. I drive my other vehicle on the same roads and never feel this way. Driven other cars and not felt like this. This definitely seems some defect in the suspension/wheels or frame. Toyota - you better do something about this or people will just "talk" about these problems and you will have to hear them. Jb.

23 Tire problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2002

I purchased a Toyota Camry 2002 se in December of 2001and discovered after driving to and from work during a snow storm 12/5/02 that the car was equiped without all season tires. I narrowly avoided several accidents that day, as did others I am sure. However, I discovered while speaking with the tire manufacturer(toyo) that the tires are considered "summer" tires and are not made for snow and/or ice. They stated the type of tire placed on the car is determined by the car manufacturer not toyo. I contacted the dealer as I am extremely concerned about other people purchasing Camrys without knowing they need to purchase snow tires or all season tires. They apparently are not as concerned as I as they stated they would not debate on what I was told at the time of the sale and the only thing they could do for me is to order replacement tires at a discount. I then proceeded to call the tire manufacturer back to express my concern and was told they would pay 75% of the cost of the same tire (toyo, j33, p21560r 16 94v), to replace the existing tires. They stated I could replace the tires with any make of my choice. It was their preference that I use a local company that sells toyo tires. I stopped to order replacement tires and found after inspection, the tires are bare down the center and are worn down to the wearbars. So not only am I driving, without knowledge, a car that does not have any type of tread for snow/ice I am driving with minimal tread. I understand the tires are high performance tires, however I do not feel they should have worn in the manner they did after 14000 miles. I have several concerns, one being with Toyota and the fact that the dealer or dealers are not informing the buyer of the need to purchase all season or snow tires at the time of the sale. How many consumers or innocent victims will be or have been injured in accidents due to this same issue. Secondly, the tire manufacturer for procuding what appears to me defective tires.

24 Tire problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2002

When the brakes were pressed while driving on wet roads the vehicle slid severely. This was caused by the tire per the dealership.

25 Tire problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2002

The vehicle was taken in for routine inspection and the mechanic noticed all 4 tires were wearing on the inside and outside, some pieces of ply were sticking through. All four tires were rotated twice and the air pressure was good. Continental rep. Stated "too bad not their problem customer abuse or mechanical problem. ".

26 Tire problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2002

New automobile problems.

27 Tire problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2002

Car pulled to the left from the day it was purchased. Dealership tried on 3 separate occasions to fix the problem with no luck. They blamed the roads. Tires were also useless under snowy conditions, providing minimal traction.

28 Tire problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2002

The Camry se model equipped with sport tires(bridgestone turanza in this case) will not function in any level of snowfall. I have had easily over 10 incidents of not being able to stop the vehicle. . . More incidents of not being able to get started in ridiculously light snow conditions. I had an accident where I rear-ended a car while doing 10 mph because I completely lost any capability of stopping. I have had 5 other people drive the car and every one of them could not believe the lack of traction. My insurance agent owns a Camry le with completely different tires and claims the car is excellent in the snow. I called Toyota and they said that there are no other complaints on this. . . Bull!!! . . . The dealer where I take this car for service said that there have been numerous complaints in regard to this se situation but they can't do anything about it because it's a manufacturer / tire issue. They tell you to call Toyota only to have corporate tell you to get lost. I feel that you need to do something about this now!. . . There are many many se owners having the same problem . . It is dangerous! somebody is going to get killed! . . . I now have 2 choices . . . Spend 500. 00 on new tires so my family can be safe or trade this in and take a huge monetary hit. How is it possible that Toyota is not required to test this car with these tires in snow conditions before putting people in harm's way? their service people admit that these tires are too hard and the car is too light . . . . A recall should be mandated to have Toyota replace these tires now!.

29 Tire problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2002

Vehicle was equipped with tires direct from the factory, when driven in less than one inch of snow was virtually undriveable. Speed did not matter - 5mph or 40mph same affect - or lack there of. All indicator lights for skid control, abs, traction control were actively flashing at all times - driving or braking. Car slide thru three intersections, while driver attempted to stop the car 1/2 block before intersection. Car also lacked acceleration, taking 20 seconds to complete a turn across a two lane road. Dealership was notified same day. They ran several tests per Toyotas tech line on abs/skid/traction system. . . Later changed the tires and the most notable difference was made. It is amazing that no accidents occurred. Toyota should be required to swap tires for clients that have this issue. It is not safe for the driver, the others on the road and ultimately this is a terrible risk for Toyota. Please ensure Toyota and other car manufacturers are truly testing the vehicles and all features they sell so customers can have confidence in the safety of the vehicle they purchase. Airbags, traction, and abs will only be effective if they work in conjunction with the other features of the car. This Camryse that is affectedis not the only one affected. . Please do whatever you can to ensure Toyota corp. Addresses this issue in a timely manner. (tiresize: 215/60r16).

30 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2002

Hi! this is regarding my Camry 2002. Tires started balding unevenly, noticed at 4000 miles secondary to faulty alignment. Tires front two only replaced by Toyota on lodging a complaint. Tires were again balding after another 4000 miles or so. Faulty alignment. Toyota and dealer refuse to acknowledge my concerns and have got alignment checked on a monthly basis times 3 and has been faulty on each occasion. Tires went completely worn out, bald with the metal wires coming out. (have all 4 tires as evidence). I had to purchase four new tires and get the alignment fixed on each occasion within the first one year of purchasing my new Camry. I have spent more than $1000 on tires and alignment and Toyota refuses to help me out in correcting the faulty alignment and all the trouble I have been through with a new car!!!.

31 Tire problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2002

Rotten egg smell since the car was purchased. Complained to Toyota dealership and the regional rep without a resolution. The rep suggestion was to just put premium gas in it. Certainly not what I expected from Toyota but I have been putting premium gas in the car and it does seems to tame the smell somewhat. In addition we have had problems with the front alignment and the car pulls to the left. Have purchased a life time alignment warranty but it still seems to go out of alignment quickly. Also have a constant wind problem with the driver side front door. Been repaired once, going into the shop again to repair. Also the original tires had to be replaced at 24,000 miles. I wouldn't consider a Toyota in future car purchases.

32 Tire problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2001

The original tire that Toyota placed on my 2002 Camry xle v6 was unsatisfactory to the point of being dangerous. Even in a new condition, the tires never provided adequate traction in rain or snow, frequently sliding with the abs system engaged. I now notice on the internet that this is a frequent complaint of many other owners of this specific tire, even on other than Toyota manufactured vehicles. The tire in question is the bridgestone potenza re92 p215/60r16 94v. Toyota refuses to address the problem.

33 Tire problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2001

Consumer states that tire was losing air and was damaged prior to purchase, the dealer only repaired it at consumers cost.

34 Tire problem

All 4 of the bridgestone potenza tires were dangerous under snowy conditions. The tread filled up with snow, and tires had no traction, which caused them to spin.

35 Tire problem

All 4 of the bridgestone potenza tires were dangerous under snowy conditions. The tread filled up with snow and the tires had no traction, which caused them to spin.
