Cruise Control problems of the 2004 Toyota Camry

1 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

Exited freeway and hit brakes to slow and stop at traffic light. The motor accelerated, the brakes were too weak to stop the vehical, and I crashed into the stopped car at the traffiic light. It seemed that the cruise control did not turn off when I pressed the brake pedal. They failed to turn the cruise control off.

2 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2009

I was driving on a highway along with my daughter in my 2004 Camry when the cruise control light went on by itself. The car started to accelerate on its own. I could not figure out why the car was doing this, and hit the cruise control button off. That took care of the issue, but it was very frightening.

3 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2005

The gas pedal and the brake pedal are too close together. This has caused the consumer at least four accidents. Because when the consumer goes to press on the brake t will accidentally hit the gas pedal. The consumer was so surprised every time this occurred that she was unable to stop the vehicle until she hit something. Three times this occurred. The consumer was trying to stop it while between other vehicles. The consumer was taken to the hospital in may 2005. She obtained injuries because of this accident. A police reports were taken. On 8-17-05 the consumer hit a light pole. Previously, the consumer had contacted the manufacturer, and received no assistance from them. Also, the consumer also stated that there was not enough leg room in the driver side.

4 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2004

With car in cruise control and coming to an uphill grade, the accelerator speeds up excessively. I am concerned that this might be symptomatic of a potential acceleration when I am not in cruise control. Incident date below is not appropriate because it occurs every time I am in cruise control.

5 Cruise Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2004

At 630 miles the odometer failed. Which read 56 miles upon purchase. The speedometer, cruise control, and the odometer operated under one module. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. Three months later, the module failed again. Took the vehicle back to the dealer. They replaced the speedometer assembly. While driving with the vehicle in cruise control it will surge forward at an alarming rate of speed. Took the vehicle back to the dealer.
