Pressing the accelerator has no affect on the engine rpms. The dealer said the sensor at the gas pedal was defective. Not related to the current recall. He replaces the sensor at a cost to me of $750. 00.
This problem has to do with the power door actuator on the driver door. The malfunction started intermittently at certain temperatures. The door lock on driver side would not work when pressing the remote or pressing the power door lock button on driver door. As the problem progressed the interior door lock button and latch stopped functioning in manual mode. Not allowing the driver to exit the vehicle. The lock does not open anymore and does not override the malfunctioning door actuator. As a result, should I need to quickly egress the vehicle in an emergency such as a fire or otherwise I will not be able to do so. The only way to open the door at this time is to press the power door lock button back and forth until something catches on, and the button opens. However, this will likely not work in an emergency. I've requested that Toyota replace the faulty part, but was informed that given that the vehicle is out of warranty they are not responsible for it. I requested that they take my case to southeastern Toyota upper management to make a decision. According to the Toyota dealer I was at, the service manager for the entire southeastern united states did not agree with my complaint and did not think it was within their duties to replace the part. My investigation into the issue has revealed that this issue repeats with many other vehicles of the same model years 02-06. . Read more...
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6). 2004 Toyota Camry/solora technical problem passenger door or trunk will not open. There is no key latch to enter car from outside of car on passenger side door or to open trunk. Key remote does not work , I've taken car to Toyota dealer and replaced battery, but still will not open car door or trunk. I've tried report this problem within the last past 2 years to the Toyota dealer w/ no help. They want to charge me for dioagnostic check. I feel this is the dealers responsibiliy because the passenger door or trunk does not have a key latch on outside of the door or trunk . I have a daughter who has to ride in the back seat for saftey purposes; I feel that in case of accident or emergency she would not be able to get out of / or someone would not be able to open door from outside or she cannot get out of car from inside. Please advise. [xxx].

During normal usage of the vehicle. At first intermittent, now continuous. Electronic door locks fail to function. This is a safety issue since the keys can open multiple locks but you can't lock the car the drivers seat.
Driver door lock does not operate. Cannot be opened/closed manually, with key, or remote. Dealer states it is very unusual for this type of failure to occur but offered no financial relief. Car is no longer under warranty. Dealer to replace door lock actuator (approx cost $600).
While driving south on us75 in florida the leather cover (known as tonneau or boot) that covers the convertible top when it is in the down position just flew off the car. I watched it go under a tractor trailer and the car behind the trailer had to swerve to avoid it almost causing a serious accident. I got off the next exit and went back to recover it but it was gone. It may have been dragged away under a tractor trailer. Prior to this I inspected the cover attachment each time I stopped for gas or food because at times I did see it flutter while I was driving and felt uncomfortable about it. The leather cover is held in place by u shaped hooks that can easily come off when pressure is exerted on the cover. On very windy days when driving at high speeds the cover flutters and can and did come off the car. The cover is a large object about 4 ft. By 2 ft. And when it becomes airborne it can and almost did cause a serious and possibly fatal accident. I was recently in a Toyota dealership and saw that the new solara convertible now has safety straps attached to the cover. This safety improvement leads me to believe that Toyota realized the very dangerous condition that existed. This realization may have been prompted by solara convertible owners reporting incidents similar to mine. Unfortunately the cover on all Toyota solara convertibles prior to this safety improvement can still unintentionally come off and cause very serious and possibly fatal accidents. Toyota has not addressed this issue and will probably try to avoid it due to the cost involved to correct the very dangerous condition. I request that the national highway traffic safety administration or the appropriate government agency deem this a recall condition and compel Toyota to correct this very dangerous condition.
