Failure Date: 05/02/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. The contact had the transmission replaced three years ago. Afterwards, the transmission began hesitating when attempting to shift into higher gears. The contact believed that she paid for a transmission that was never replaced. The repair was performed by moss bros. Toyota of moreno valley (12630 motor way, moreno valley, CA 92555, (951) 247-8000). The contact called the manufacturer approximately a year ago who promised to conduct an investigation, but the contact had not heard back. The dealer even informed the contact that the manufacturer paid for half of the transmission repair cost. The vehicle was not repaired again. The failure mileage was 135,000.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

The exhaust shield that protects the fuel tank from exhaust heat fell off. Upon inspection, it appears as though the fasteners used to install this critical heat shield are of a dissimilar metal to the heat shield itself. This is evidenced by corrosion electrolysis around the fasteners only, the rest of the shield is corrosion free. A little research has shown that this is a well known problem that could prove dangerous if not corrected.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2015

Car has abs, brake warning, vsc, and master brake warning lights on. From what I have researched this could be potentially dangerous.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2014

The warning lights went on and immediate the vechile shut down while I was travelling a city street in san francisco, California (dewey blvd). Fortunately the street is fairly level and I wasn't on a hill. I loss power to the brake, steering and everything as everything was dead. I was able to coast to a curb putting all my effort to stop the car. I tried starting and moved about 10 feet before everything went dead again. I did not move it further I called for a tow (aaa) and the initial diagnosis was that the alternator was dead. The car was towed to a mechanic who also said that this alternator was dead and it was replaced. I told him where it happened and he said I was lucky that I wasn't on the freeway.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

I was stopped in traffic and had my foot on the brake rpm shot up to 6 and the engine was racing and wanted to lunge forward. I hurried and shifted to neutral luckily I had a little space in front of me or else I may have hit the person in front of me. I had my wife in the car with me and she was scared thought that we were going too have a accident.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2012

When stationary at traffic light or stop sign. When a/c is turned on and brake pedal is depressed the entire car is drastically shaking an vibrating beyond controlability. When gear is in neutral the heavy vibration is gone away. Was told by service manager that this is an normal behavior of all cars past 40,000 miles. Was told that I would have to let the vehicle learn my driving habits again since the new throttle body component was installed. Once the unit was installed correctly again engine lights kept coming on thus returning back to the dealership. Took 3 attempts to complete the engine lite issue but the violent shaking and vibration is still going on.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2011

Was reversing out of a parking space in my 2008 solara and when I went to shift into drive, the car lurched several times and then accelerated. When the car took off, I was unable to stop it accelerating using the brakes. A passenger pulled up on the parking brake, launching us into a series of tight spins and colliding with concrete bumpers in the lot. We were about to head out into a major roadway when they did so. Once out of the spins, the car had come to enough of a halt that I could shift into park and turn the car off. It was only when the car was turned off that the front wheels (fwd) stopped trying to turn. When we examined the car, the accelerator was stuck in a depressed position. The weather has been fine and dry for several days previously, so the pavement was not wet. As the incident happened over ~15 seconds, we cannot give an approximate mph that the car sped up to, but it was at least 30mph. Amazingly, my passengers and I walked away without a scratch and so did everyone else in the parking lot. However, the solara needs extensive body work beyond the obvious accelerator issue due to the collusions. Toyota has sent an engineer out to look at the car, but has not given any support otherwise. The engineer informed me that he found nothing wrong with the car, but he did not examine the powertrain in detail. Toyota has informed me that it will be 30 days before they give me an official report. While the solaras were not initially included in the recalls for the accelerator issue, 2008 Camrys were and a solara is basically a 2-door Camry. The recall should be looked at for the solaras as well. I do not want to be driving a car that can endanger me or anyone else on the road. This incident, as frightening as it was, luckily took place when I was not already at a higher speed and was in a parking lot. It had the potential to be much worse.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

While turning the Toyota steering wheel, I can notice a severe clicking or thumping sound from the steering wheel. It appears there is a problem with the suspension or the struts. I took my Toyota to get it check out a few months before the warranty expired. They indicated the struts were leaking. One strut was severely leaking so they replaced it. The other strut was also leaking but not as severe so it was not replaced. However, the steering column has the aforementioned noise and I know, through internet searches, that many owners have experienced this problem. It's likely a mass defect that should be looked at ASAP before someone is severely injured. My wife uses the car to take my children to school so I am very concerned about the safety of the vehicle.

Hello, I am an owner of a 2008 Toyota Camry who just got my car serviced via a recall this week. Before the recall, I did not experience any sudden acceleration incidents. 2008 Toyota Camry suddenly lost power in 5th gear (manual transmission). Steering wheel lost control. At the time the incident happened, the road was dry and the engine was running. 15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the vehicle had keyless entry, which posed as a safety issue because the engine shut off while the vehicle was still in gear. She stated that most vehicles manually require placing the gear in park before shutting down the engine. The owner's manual stated that the engine would not turn off unless the vehicle was in park; however, that was not the case. She also stated that she had forgotten to place the car in park several times before due to the on/off button for the engine. As a result, the vehicle has rolled away from the driveway on more than one occasion. The failure mileage was approximately 40 and current mileage was 1,300. Updated 09/10/08. The consumer stated the engine did not shut off while in gear, but the vehicle can be tuned off while in gear, which could cause the vehicle to roll. Updated 09/11/08.
