Car lurches forward after touching an ice patch and scarily wants to speed ahead. Even in my driveway, it suddenly begins to speed forward or backward when it merely touches a sheet of ice. This is extremely dangerous in areas where there are pedestrians because the car suddenly seems out of control. My solution is to go as slowly as possible until I am able to bring the car to a dealer on a nonicy day.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2016

The crash happened in a parking lot on March 19th, 2016. I had entered into the parking spot, by turning right. The car had come to a complete stop and my foot was on the brake pedal. Suddenly I heard a loud revving noise and before I could even react to it, the car had jumped on to the walkway of the building. Since I had stopped, my foot was on the brake pedal and even though I was pressing on it really hard, the car didn't stop. It slowed down a little bit for a fraction of a second, but then accelerated itself again, jumped ahead once more, went through the awning of a business suite in the building and hit a light post. The airbags didn't deploy. The car was totaled. As, I had turned right to enter into the parking spot, the steering wheel was still turned to the right and the car turned right and went parallel to the cinder block wall of the building, instead of going straight and hitting the wall, which could have turned fatal for me and my child. This vehical had been recalled earlier. I had received the recall notice from Toyota in early 2010 for "potential floor mat interference with accelerator pedal (safety recall 90l)" and had it repaired in may 2010, from a local Toyota service center.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2016

When slowing down on intersection on the stop sign with the intention to completely stop, I pressed the brake pedal and removed my foot completely from accelarator pedal. Car engine suddenly revs up and engine rpm shoots up, I need to press brake really very hard to stop the car to go into the middle of intersection or eventually car wiill roll into intersection and I had to cross the intersection to avoid collision with vehicles coming on cross intersection. This has happened at least 5-6 times. I took the car to the mechanic and he ran the diagnostics test but could not find any thing wrong. I took it to the Toyota dealership in freehold he suggested to remove the unsecured floor mat, which I did but still having the same issue. This issue was experienced yesterday also 2 times.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

This is the second or third time this has happened. This am I started the car, put in reverse, started to back out and as I straighened the car it lerched forward before I put in forward gear. . . . . I've had the car "jump in traffic a couple of times but so quickly I didn't think anything of it. Now I'm seeing a pattern that is worsening. I bought the car in 2011 from carmax in TN. The car originated in IL. With 16,000 miles. I have complained about turning the engine on and it being louder than normal. By the time I drive to the beamans or carmax for service no one can hear it. So nothing has been done. I would like someone qualified to look at and know if this is safe to drive to the dealership.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

Slowly entered rite aid parking lot at 5-10 mph. Turned right into a parking spot. Lightly tapped the brake and the accelerator went faster than if you were driving on the highway. Car jumped the concrete bumper onto the walkway. Had to cut the wheel all the way to the right to avoid hitting the brick wall of the store and drove into the parking lot guard rail. Car went into a high speed skid and when it came out of the skid was still accelerating at a very high speed and had to turn the ignition off for it to stop. There were skid marks and smoke. Air bag did not go off. Waiting to hear from Toyota with a date to have the car inspected. Would like for Toyota to buy back my car which we have spent top dollar having Toyota maintain it for the last five years, which included the 100,000 mile service just a week or two before the accident. Do not feel safe driving this car again. Please advise.

We received a recall letter on our 2008 Camry due gas pedal problem. We took the Camry in for the recall. The dealer shaved the pedal down. This is the fix for the run away Camry's. The fix is very sloppy and makes the car uncomfortable to drive due the pedal being so short now. I call Toyota they said that was the approved fix. They did give me a case number and said someone would call in 3 days. The fix seems to be a lot more unsafe now than before.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2010

I'm a school counselor. I was going home from work at about 3:50 pm yesterday, 4-6-2010, going south on rt. 222, about 4 miles north of the denver exit. I went to pass another car and pushed hard on my 2008 Toyota Camry's accelerator. It locked and kept accelerating as I pulled into the passing lane. I took my foot off the pedal all the way, maybe a half a foot, but all I heard was the engine racing as I saw myself getting closer to the car in the lane in front of me. I panicked and began to stomp down on the pedal several times, I figure I was above eighty mph by then. As I was trying to decide how to steer around everyone I hammered down on the pedal again and it stopped. The car accelerated ok and I carefully used the gas until I got the car home. I then called the new holland Toyota dealership who did the recall fix on 3-27-2010, told doug what just happened. I never had the car do this before! I always thought it had a good smooth ride. Doug gave me the 800 number to call Toyota to file for a case manager. I'm very upset and afraid to use this car for me or my family. I feel like it's unbelievable that it happened to me but it did. What is being done about this terrible situation? please help me with what I should do next.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

I own a 2008 Toyota Camry that was one of the vehicles recalled. My dealer did provide me with a rental car for three days and repaired the gas pedal on 2/05/10. Today - while out on the highway and starting up a small hill, when I touched the gas pedal - it started revving up really loud, I immediately did what I have been told to do - put the brake on hard and finally the revving stopped. The car then started to drive ok again. I am concerned that -- had I not put the braked on hard - the car would have gone out of control. This is not a normal reaction ! I did call my dealer and plan to take the car back in tomorrow to have it checked again. I travel a great deal and am worried about my safety. I am reporting this in case the unforeseen should happen. Also - to date - there has been no resolution to the car mat issue. Updated 03/09/10.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I have a 2008 Toyota Camry which has a recall issue. My VIN# is [xxx]. 31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

I have a 2008 Camry se which I took in for the floormat and acceleration recalls. The car still accelerates when I first start it. I can drive up to 30 miles an hour with out applying gas. The dealer has worked on the car multiple times and can not solve the problem. Incident date is the last time it happened. It happens every time the car has sat for awhile.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

I drive a 2008 four door Toyota Camry le. I have been worried by a hesitation in excelling and slowing when I press and release the gas. I mostly notice this when going between 20 & 45 mph but it has happened at higher speeds (just less often). Primarily at abt 35 mph while holding a steady pressure on the gas you feel the car randomly decel, or feel sluggish, but then when you release the gas you feel the engine pull faster even though your foot is off the gas. The rpm even jumps. I called Toyota in cedar rapids, IA (I don't like the one in cedar falls, they forgot to put oil in my car once when doing an oil change & denied responsibility), the cedar rapids car lot rejected my request for service- stating there is a recall and I will be notified by Toyota when a solution has been found. I then took my car to the place I purchased it (owned by the same people who own the Toyota in cedar falls), they looked it over and abt 30 minutes later told me nothing was wrong with it, & that they didn't notice anything (this problem is hard to miss) that they cleaned the fuel filter & that should solve it. I drove home & the problem right from my exit persisted. Now hearing abt the concerns with Toyota worry I am being ignored on a potentially dangerous issue with my vehicle?. . .

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

Random, infrequent engine failure at freeway/highway speeds. At constant highway speeds (steady state speed), car engine dies out and car decelerates (without alert and for no reason). This car has always done this on an infrequent basis since purchased brand new. This happens about twice per month. I phoned the dealership and they said they have to see it/experience the problem. At around 41k miles I brought the car to Toyota for their inspection (this was prior to any recalls on Camrys), they cleaned carbon from the engine. This did not stop the problem. About twice per month the car dies out when traveling at a constant highway speeds (for no reason). On 3/5/10 I brought the car back to the dealer ship (it has about 81k miles on it). The car has a valid extended warranty on it that was purchased at time of purchasing the car. Due to random engine failure at constant highway speeds this car is extremely unsafe.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

Toyota safety recall for floor mat repaired by Toyota san diego. Gas pedal was cut down per Toyota specs. Upon leaving Toyota san diego twice within a fifteen min period my foot became trapped under gas pedal. Due to the wet conditions, when I accelerated the vehicle my foot was able to slip down the pedal which then sprung back trapping my foot underneath the pedal.
