Dashboard is starting to melt, crack, chip and become gooey. I have been to the dealership 3 times and on the phone with Toyota customer service 2 times, and they both keep redirecting me to each other. I have expressed concerns about the integrity of the airbags since the dashboard is melting. Toyota is aware of the situation and is refusing to assist in any way. Apparently, there was a recall that has since expired, however I was never notified. This causes great concern for myself and others since this is a known factory defect that Toyota is not addressing with ease or honesty. A melting dashboard is a great safety concern that could have grave consequences.
Driving on interstate 77 south, just north of boilvar, OH, 70 mph, heard loud explosion. Thought it was a tire. Checked to find it was my moon roof. It shattered to pieces. The hole was the size of a basketball, with remaining glass cracked to the point it crumbled to the touch. No other cars, trucks, or foreign objects were near me. The glass simply exploded. There was no overpass nearby, both sides of road were woods and I was in a rural area. I bought the car new and I'm the only owner. I will contact local Toyota dealer and have it repaired as I use my car daily. Date of incident 8/26/18, time about 8:40 a. M. No injuries, other than monetary. The interior slide cover, under moon roof was closed. Moon roof was closed. No police report filed. I covered the area with plastic and duct tape while on the road. When I arrived home, I removed the distressed glass, swept the area, and will see Toyota and glass repair facility tomorrow (Monday 8/27/18).
2009 Camry hybrid melting dashboard. This is a safety issue as one can't see incoming traffic or pedestrians when driving into the sun. I have been in few close call incidents where I couldn't see pedestrians or traffic infront of me. Please recall this problem with the melting/cracking dashboard.
Vehicle dashboard is melting amd cracking. I am extremely concerned about the melting because the dashboard is now extremely shiny amd the reflection makes visibility limited, especially when the sun is directly hitting it. I also fear that the cracks have possibly damaged the airbag itself, meaning if it were to ever deploy will it deploy correctly. This started years ago, and after some research I found where a recall was issued. However Toyota never notified me, they mail the corresponding information to the previous owner. This was verified when I called Toyota directly. They wouldn't take ownership of the mistake or the safety issue and advised me they won't fix it because the recall is expired. I'm confused how a safety recall can expire when real drivers, like myself, are still having these issues because many of these cars are still on the road. My car is a 2009 Toyota Camry se with only 120k miles. Still alot of life left, so they should be held accountable amd fix these safety issues for consumers.
Sticky dash notification or lack thereof, I called Toyota today to ask about this problem, since the car is 3 months out of the secondary warranty I'm screwed and stuck with a sticky, stinking (costly -$1600) mess. I've tried cleaning in with numerous products safe for the material to no avail, thinking it was something on it. I decided today to google and see if I could find a cleaner/resolution to my problem. I work long hours and honestly didn't think it could be a defective dash. The dash has even started to crack. I live in hot, humid alabama and picking dead flies etc from the sticky mess isn't an easy or enjoyable job. I think Toyota should replace this dash immediately, this car is finally paid for and now this . . . Arghhh what a pain !.
I was travel on the belt around richmond (295) headed south at approx. 70 mph and the back window was slightly cracked open. There was an explosion like sound going off and then I noticed that there was a hole in my sun roof. This occurred on 19 oct 2017 @ 1800hrs. I looked for a rock or any other object that could have caused it and nothing was found.
I didnt receive a notice on recall of dashboard. My dashboard is sticky and has cracked. Clearly needs replacing. Please respond so we can get this matter resolved. Started few years ago.
Driving 55 mph on expressway when the glass moon roof exploded. There was no object hitting it. After stopping to inspect the damage, the glass looked as if it was slightly pushed upwards around the hole. The entire glass area was cracked, there was a hole about 12" x 5" in center.
The dash is melting and cracking all over the entire dash.
2009 Toyota Camry se driver side top of dashboard melting making a crack about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. It looks like a patch on the dashboard compared to approximately the size of an adult hand. The melting area gets worst with the heat and lifting up with an uneven bump on the dashboard. Note: vehicle was not involved on any accidents 9/30/2014.
Vehicle (now with 98,532 miles) has a "sticky" dashboard caused by the breakdown of the materials composing the dashboard. Breakdown of materials has caused the dashboard to have a glare. The glare presents a safety problem. The material breakdown of the dashboard is believed to ultimately lead to a cracking of the dashboard which may also cause interference with operation of the air bag.
The dashboard is sticky like it is melting. The sticky stuff on the dashboard creates a glare when the sun hits it at certain angles. Also, the dashboard has cracked and I am concerned this will affect the functioning of the air bags.
The dash is sticky and seems to be melting. You can touch it and it will leave an impression. A couple of cracks have also developed. This car is not that old. I am concerned about the safety of the airbags due to the breakdown of the dash. I also did not pay the price I did for an automobile that would look like this after only 6 years. I called the dealership and they said it would be about $1500 to replace the dash. I don't believe I should have to pay for this. There should be a recall.
I have a 2009 Camry xle with the sticky dash issue! the dash is turning into a glue like stubstance. It also has a noticable smell when it is hot out where the dash is letting off fumes. There is a glare which is amlified from his issue. Im not sure if the fumes are toxic but I have to keep the windows open to air it out when I 1st get in. When I purchased the car I even bought the extended warranty from Toyota and a interior warranty! well guess what! its not covered! the interior trim warranty by perma plate states it covers cracked staining or faded dash and trim not sticky! I was told this is a manufacturing defect where the glue is comming through the dash. I went to the dealer and they told me to call Toyota customer service ! I call and got the standard sympathy statement of its out of warranty! to try to get a discount from your dealer? well I bought this car in maine, moved to florida in 2010 so yes there is a local dealer but not where I bought this car.
Dashboard has melted and cracked, making a terrible glare on the windshield. I recently realized that many with this make/madel vehicle have had the same issue.
The dash is very soft and cracking. It is very shining and gives off a glare which makes it difficult to see. No commercial products have been used on it. The dealer in bradenton FL says they don't know what is wrong with it and I could replace it for about 2200. 00 dollars as it is not under warranty. While searching the web for a solution I came across many others who have this problem. My husbands 2006 tacoma does not have this issue, in addition, the newer models all redesigned dash's. Toyota needs to stand behind their product and replace the dash. It takes away from the resale value.
The dashboard is really sticky and has gather debris from my sunshade. There are also some cracks forming. I went to the dealership where I bought it from and was told the same thing. That it's out of warranty (since it's 5 years old and 42k miles) and I can't really do anything about it. If I wanted them to look at it, I would have to pay $115 for a diagnostic test. The guy who helped me even looked for any recalls but found none. So now I just have to deal with it. I can see it becoming a really big safety issue because it reflects onto the window area of the driver's seat. ¿ some people's dashboards are worse than mine because of the sun. I feel like a couple years down the road, I will be unable to drive because it is so reflective during the daylight. This has been a very common problem, but Toyota has done nothing to fix it.
The entire dashboard is sticky and is now cracking and warping in several locations. Impedes visibility and I worry it could affect airbag deployment.
My 2009 Camry dashboard is melting. The leather console between seats has cracked. The electrical system keeps shorting out. All cigarette lighters/charger locations have shorted out including the aux. A week after buying my car the safety feature to lock place mat in place broke. Nearly causing a car wreck as the place mat lodged in between the gas and brake. The radio, location where speedometer, clock, and service lights locations are fogged up and getting worse daily. When I took my car to the dealership about the dashboard I was told,"it was my fault. Probably caused by a cleaning product. " which I knew was entirely not true. Cigarette lighter covers have dry rot and broken, plastic/leather has dry rot under all 4 windows leaving scratch looking marks, dry rot paint by stick shift is peeling. Headlights fog up easily with water in them. I was in a car wreck a couple of years ago. When I was going about 10 mph and a vehicle ran the red light hitting the right side of vehicles front area. They were going at least 45 mph. No airbag deployed. Underneath front of car is a plastic piece that keeps falling down. Some days I am unable to take car out of park unless I turn the wheel,"hard". I have never received anything via mail about any recalls on my vehicle. I still live at the same address! took car to dealer again about front passenger window and driver side window not being able to roll down or up windows. I had to pay quite a bit of money to have fixed. Passenger window switch is broken and still is just like drivers side was. Was told" it was most likely because someone tried to break into my car. " which I knew was not the case. I am very disgusted and considering filing a lawsuit against Toyota. I bought a lemon car! I keep my oil changes up to date, fluids, filters, etc. I have never felt so disappointed in a vehicle purchase in my life. I'd like a full refund.
The dash board is very sticky and has cracked and looks terrible. Obiviously not a quality product.
