Steering wheel is hard to turn.
"I was driving when the passenger airbag light came on and wouldn't turn off. At the same time, my steering wheel locked up, and my car started making a whining/humming sound. The lights began blinking on and off, and the battery light came on, even though the battery was brand new. Finally, my car completely shut off while I was driving in the middle of the street. " a few years ago, I encountered a similar situation when a new computer component was installed, but they had trouble identifying the issues. It ended up costing me over a thousand dollars for problems they weren't certain about. Each time they added more parts, it turned out that it wasn't the solution. I'm hesitant to take it back to the dealership for fear of facing the same issues again. I plan to file a formal complaint and seek advice or assistance regarding this issue. Upon reviewing previous complaints, I noticed several similarities. I was never contacted by anyone regarding the recall on the airbag issues, and I would like this to be rectified immediately.
I own a 2012 Camry le with about 70,000 miles which is in excellent condition and well-maintained. Recently I began to hear a rattle, tapping or knocking sound apparently from somewhere in the left engine or cabin area. I feel confident its sources is possibly a steering column issue. You sort of feel it whenever you have some rough road surface; and if it’s a bump you hear the metal knock. While it doesn’t appear to cause a steering malfunction. The issue or noise does seem to come from the steering column. Independent research on the web has indicated that countless queries have been reported about this same year vehicle and issue. Described as a small $10 plastic part that degrades thereby allowing the vibration or knocking noise to appear. Cost to repair again is $10 for part and 7-8 hour labor roughly $950 from the actual dealer to repair. On 2/18/23 I took my car into the repair shop to investigate a clunking sound upon braking. The control arm was broken and the level of corrosion is extensive. I am the original and only owner and the car has never been out of florida or on the beach or immersed in water. Toyota of north America in plano, TX said they could not receive my pictures and that there was no one at Toyota that I could send documents to. They said if there was a recall I would be notified.
The steering column u joint is loose and needs to be replaced. This is going to require the entire steering shaft to be replaced and taken apart.
When I first purchased the car I unlocked the lever to adjust my steering wheel and from that moment further my car never drove the same. If I do not play with the lever for the tilt steering and move steering wheel up and down while driving my car does not drive normal. The tires either feel like they were laying down flat when making a turn either way to the left or the right and the car seemed to be at a different position than my steering wheel was. I changed my lower control arms, inner tire rods(front), outer tire rods(front),this is all since January of 2022. I contacted the dealership immediately when I began noticing the problem and they told me nothing was wrong with the car and they couldn't not help me. Now when I am driving it sounds like a belt shifted on a tire but hasn't or something is rubbing. My steering wheel shakes when braking, and my steering wheel is really tight. If I put my traction control on off and drive it somewhat drives better but the rubbing sounds from the front still appears. If I play with the tilt lever and move steering wheel in and out or up and down I can feel the transmission almost like releasing from straining but never feels as if it is straining if that makes since. The lever for tilt steering is sometimes really loose like it is about to fall off but other times it is so tight that I am afraid it will snap if I lock it back. No one seems to understand what is the issue at the mechanic shops I brought it too. And I am so scared of driving it that I have parked it since August because I am afraid for my safety and my childrens safety. I have heard and read about other Camrys this year model having similar issues. One time my abs light and traction lights came on during my drive and then went off moments later. If I dont play with the lever and tilt steering during a drive, the steering wheel while shake, car wobbles and sounds like mud tires are on it, and the car glides all over the road and turns make as if tires flat.

Steering motor rattles and only got worse throughout the years there was a recall I missed and would like this repaired.
I had trouble starting my car, so I received a jump. My car started up just fine and was driving normally. After about 2-3 minutes, I had noticed the eps light pop up on my dash. At that point, my car became difficult to steer. I had to pull the wheel hard to change lanes a d even harder to be able to make any turns. After about another minute or two, all of the warning lights in my dash it up, and the car completely shut off. I was unable to start it at that point or turn the wheel. I received a jump start again, and the same exact thing happened. The car drove normal for a few minutes. The eps light came on again. Steering became difficult again. Then all the lights on the dash flashed, and the car died again. Thankfully I was not on a major road either time that it had died.
Clicking noise in steering (damper for caused by a small plastic part which is defectively designed, and disintegrates). This is a very common defect in 2011-2017 Toyota Camrys. The part is only about $5, but labor is $750 because the whole steering assembly has to be taken apart. My Camry started making the rattling noise when it had 40,000 miles. Eps light is coming on. I see that other cars that is on recall are having the same issue. While driving the steering wheel locks ups.
Rattling noise coming from the driver side dashboard due to pandemic never took to dealer for repair rattling has increased and in any bad road is constant so in highways when driving. See various complaints about same issue on internet and a you tube video shows how to repair it. Yesterday contacted Toyota help center and said it was a service customer advice that expired on 2019 I explained that never received a letter or e-mail advising about that service I am retired and my car has 62,000 k miles and out of warranty now but it has to be fixed because I am afraid to use it now, and after see the complaints on internet that is a subject that Toyota has to address because is an expensive repair for a damaged little part on the steering electric motor, so when driving is rattling and stationary parking when you turn the steering wheel either side you can hear the clicking noise.
My eps light comes on and off sometime I'm driving and when it does that my radio goes out and wheel hard to steer.
Electric power steering goes out during driving, causes loss of power and inability to steer.
Drivers side steering wheel has a clicking clunking sound and appears this is a well-known issue with this year car that Toyota has never addressed some type of silicone, bearing or washer war wears out, but the whole column must be removed to replace it from what I see it’s like $1000 I have Toyota do it for a $20-30 part.

In spite of new brakes, 2 alignments and 2 different sets of tires the car, purchased as a certified Toyota in Dec 2015, continues to wander all over the road/track poorly and will pull quickly to the right when I brake especially when traveling at freeway speeds. I have had two close calls of near hitting the car in the lane next to me due to the force of the pull. This car was in tended for my teenager but in all good conscious the issue is of such concern I do not feel it would be safe for her to drive. I have the toytota dealer I purchased from that my only recourse is to trade it in and another Toyota dealer stating that it is inherent to the vehicle.

When I was backing out of my garage I noticed the steering got hard to handle and hard to turn.

The tire pressure tends to fluctuate often requiring weekly air check to maintain the proper psi. The driver front tire psi cold will read 36 , front pass 34 , rear drive r35, rear pass at 36, when the tires heat up after appx. 38 mile out and you check the psi it will read 39, 39. 36,37, or at time you may get 39,37. 39. F you have to come to a stop light, sudden stop, or a stop at night on a non familiar road like I had to in the rain on a uneven road the vehicles tail end tends to slide to the left and the front end feels as if you hit a pot hole do to slight wear and tear groves in the road that don't become apparent until your on that 1 to 2 feet section in the road. Is this a common complaint with any others or am I over being over concerned with the drive performance on uneven pavement or roads. My concern is the abuse on the brake components, the steering , the tires , fuel consumption and keeping control of your vehicle . Is it a computer problem, wheel component, tires, or me or all of the above. I purchased my Toyota for durability, efficacy, and my family safety on the road .
Another vehicle made hit my vehicle from rear side but air bags did not deployed and child safety airbag was not also activated across him and sterling also got locked while engine was on.
2012 Toyota Camry. Consumer writes in regards to electric power steering problems. The consumer stated with the electric power steering, the vehicle would drift to the left and right in and out of lane he was trying to stay in. The vehicle seemed to have a mind of its own, and it would take its own course down the road. The consumer stated it was very dangerous at 60 mph, and the curves were even worse, as the consumer needed to correct the steering a lot more. When he turned onto a curve, the electric power steering would over react and continued turning the vehicle after he stopped turning the wheel, at that point he had to turn the wheel the other way to correct the over steering.
I received a recall notice for the hvac assembly. I called my dealer and verified my VIN and scheduled an appointment to have the assembly replaced on 1/2/2014. When I arrived at the dealership I was told that they did not have the part and the asst svc mgr [xxx] told me he would get the part and call me. I have not heard from him and when I call he is on vacation. I called the service mgr and left my info and have not received a call back. As soon I got the safety recall for the Toyota Camry, I immediately called up bingham Toyota. The guy whom I spoke with said, "he asked for then name of the car and phone number, next give me a sec to look it up and then told me that the part is a special one which required a special order," I asked how long will that take he said, "one week. " now its 2014 and I still haven't heard a call yet, as I was told that once the parts came in I would be notify by the number I gave him.
I recently purchased this car as a certified Toyota used car with 3675 miles. At speeds above 50mph the car constantly wanders from right to left requiring constant steering correction. This is very tedious to the driver and creates a dangerous situation in attempting to keep the vehicle within the designated lane of traffic. All tires are inflated to factory specifications and the car is properly aligned. This is a new vehicle. There are numerous complaints on line related to this topic and vehicle. I contacted both a Toyota dealer and Toyota u. S. A. And both had no records of complaints and or recommended actions to repair this issue. The cause of this is most likely associated with the eps (electronic power steering) which Toyota started to install into the Camry in 2012. Eps has been documented as having a numb feeling and in some cases wandering steering. Unfortunately I was unaware of this when acquiring this 2012 Camry. Previous to this car I leased a 2011 Camry which did not have eps and no such wandering steering. Power steering make grinding when turning,brakes squeaking when backing,a/. C have bad smell when I turn off the a/c leak lots of water,when I stop and took off the car skid and a light abs light on the panel. I spoke to the mgr and he toll me was normal when a/c off open the outside air to the smell go away. And for the steering he sad the car has electronic power steering and for brakes cause dirthy and out of adjustment. On Feb 16 I took the car again for brakes then nothing wrong stillmaking the clicking noise then a month after I get a letter for the recall but same problems still there I just want know if any recalls on this issues that I write in this letter for my concerns and safe which I don't feel safe driving this car it has 18. 000 miles.
The vehicle had been steering eradically and pulling to the left primarily. It feels as though the wind is buffeting the vehicle and it is difficult to maintain a steady course. When family have driven behind me it has been noted that the vehicle is all over the road. I was to take the vehicle to the shop for routine maintenance and to have the problem checked out this week but I had an accident. The car pulled to the left and I struck an oncoming vehicle. The day was cloudy but dry. There were no extenuating circumstances. Both cars were totaled. I struck the vehicle left head light to my left head light. The other driver and I were both hospitalized for injuries. We are fortunate not to have been killed. I received a ticket for failure to maintain lane and will go to court in June. This is a dangerous vehicle and I would like to see something done before someone is killed.

Bought a new 012 Camry. First time on highway noticed excessive amount of play in the steering driving 50mph. I was very surprised on how difficult it is to keep the car driving straight at high speeds. Steering wheel is very loose and eratic. Driving next to a big rig truck I had to focus all my effort (moving my steering wheel left and right) to keep car centered. This is dangerous and the steering feels unstable at high speeds. I hope Toyota can utilize a fix for this ASAP. I will be following up with my local dealer on my concerns.
I have a Toyota Camry se 2012 (4-cyl) which I bought on 08/29/2012. On 12/31/2012 (the road was clear and dry, it was a cloudy day, no rain, snow, ice on the road) while starting to accelerate from a stop light, turning into a lane, after I stopped pressing the gas pedal, the car kept getting faster and faster (the gas pedal didn't get stuck and my foot wasn't on it), when I started to turn into a lane, the driver's side wheel locked up and to avoid a crash I had to turn the wheel to the other side, I ended up doing a diagonal skid into the other lane, I was able to get the car to stop and straighten it out and keep going. Since the driver's side wheel locked up the car jerked me pretty hard and my neck and arm started to hurt since then and I am scheduled to take physical therapy. I took it to the dealer I bought it from for service (from 1/2/2013 - 1/10/2013) and after I picked it up I've been having the rpm sticking at 1. 3 all the time so now it's worse than when I had it last. The car doesn't feel safe to drive and I don't want to put my life or other people's lives at risk. After calling Toyota and explaining all of this they told me to go to the dealer and the dealer says that Toyota is the one that can do whatever they want, the dealer's only resolution is to accept the car as a trade in and roll over the residual value into a loan for another car, but it isn't my fault so I shouldn't have to pay more in payments for a car and I shouldn't have to be paying for a car that's not safe for me or my family to drive. Before the incident on 12/31/2012 I had taken it in to the dealer for the same reason, but I thought it was that the tires weren't gripping on dry asphalt, the dealer topped off the air and said it was fine, but the car kept doing the same thing and I didn't realize it was accelerating on it's own until what happened on 12/31/2012.
Steering lacks on-center feel and this is particularly noticeable at highway speed. Car wanders/darts left and right requiring constant corrective steering to keep car on course. This could be dangerous because even momentary lack of attention to the problem can cause the car to change direction significantly.

Would find it acceptable to wait three (3) weeks - until January 6, 2014- to first begin an investigation while being left with a defective and damaged Toyota Camry. [xxx]. We located Nov 16 2012 details and fwd to Toyota corp: Nov 16, 2012- at approximately 11:15pm on the 405s, all traffic was stopped by the police north of the skirball. We were standing still for about 10 minutes. Suddenly, our car lunged forward due to unintended acceleration. As the car veered to the right, I managed, with great effort, to steer the car as we went into the lane to the right of us. After traveling more than 100 feet, I was finally able to get the car to come to a stop. Thankfully, we did not hit and were not hit by passing police and fire vehicles. We also smelled something burning in our car for a couple of minutes. On November 17, 2012, we went into Toyota service to report what had occurred the night before. We wanted Toyota to know what had happened because it was very frightening and we were concerned about our safety. We also wanted to know how many other people had experienced this problem and how Toyota had resolved this dangerous, safety problem. Toyota service checked and responded that there was no recall for this unintended acceleration in the 2012 Camry. Unfortunately, we accepted that this was an isolated incident experienced only by us.
