2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

We purchased Toyota Camry in 2013. Currently, it has a mileage of less than 100k. We regularly serviced it at landers Toyota dealership, and the last maintenance was performed a week before the accident. Driving home from work, my wife heard a bang and felt a jolt after which she was forced to stop. There were no warning signs. The car was filled with smoke and seconds later the flames appeared from underneath the car (luckily, she managed to escape without injuries). I towed the car to the garage for inspection and a large (about 4-5 inches) and wide (about 1 inch) crack was found on the engine. I contacted my insurance rep and the adjustor will inspect the vehicle within 1-3 business days.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2022

I had this car for 5 months, the dealer lied to me about the engine being repaired, the coverage he has on the vehicle. The electronic doesn't work front driver/ passenger doors, we have to unlock the back doors to get into the car and hop over to the front. The hood doesn't have a holder to keep the hood up on its own, the electrical sound blows out and I had to buy more wires and sound system to equip. The day it started tripping, first was when the car didn't start, it made an awful clicking noise. I got a jump it started. I decided to buy new battery; however, the check engine light is on, and check service soon light on. I checked to see if there was any oil, there's no oil. I called the dealership advise him of the problem and he blows me off as if it's not his concern. I'm extremely upset because I trusted that his word to sell me a good and no bad conditions car. I have me and my friends with me along driving, my friend said, "c car is smoking", I looked in the mirror, OH my god I see white thick smoke from the back. I immediately pull over to look at the problem. I can't drive. I called my insurance to get the car tolled to my home. I called the dealers, I had no good help from him at all. I'm out of a car what to do? my wife called Toyota company to tell them what going on and to get the maintenace history (tune up, spark plugs and oil change). The dealer & the lender didn't want nothing to do with this car, I'm so hurt because I've been deceived for my money. He did the contract the way he wanted, and lenders company to continue to report a fraud contract on my credit report. I have less than time to turn the car back or continue to pay for a broken car. My wife side the car its safe anymore to continue to drive or put any more money into a car you didn't damage. Who is responsible, the manufacturers said they can't help me it's passed the mile; I have to pay out of pocket. This contract is all a lie the amount value and work. I need help with to??.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2022

2013 Toyota Camry hybrid xle, 2ar-fxe. 134,000 miles. The car burns a quart of oil every 2,000 miles. This issue is from the low-tension piston rings sticking up and leading to scarring of the cylinder walls, causing oil consumption. Toyota had this issue with the 2007 2az engine and fixed it, but hasn't done a thing about the 2ar engine with the same problem. Hundreds and thousands of owners have complained but Toyota does not care enough to solve the problem! Toyota doesn't care about you, they only care about themselves and the money they make for charging people thousands of dollars for short blocks out of the owner's pocket for an issue that is not the owner's fault. The car has had 5,000/6 month mile oil changes all its life. Don't buy a 1ar/2ar-equipped Toyota if you expect it to last. It also has a vvt-I rattle problem that is very common that Toyota doesn't bother to fix for their customers.

Failure Date: 12/10/2019

When I get to 20 mph my car will loose power for just a second or two.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2019

I am sending this msg in regards to my 2013 Toyota Camry se that I leased and decided to purchase after the lease ended from Toyota heritage in catonsville. I am experiencing problems with my torque converter. This is an issue that Toyota knew that would happen to my car and now that I am experiencing this problem Toyota doesn’t feel that they are responsible for the fix since the warranty has expired. I notice this problem in February 2019 when driving to work every morning at the same spot it felt like I was driving on the edge of the road. I figured it was road damage, because it would happen at the same spot every morning curve in the road. On March 16, 2019 due to covid-19 we were sent home to work from home until Feb 2022. I wasn’t driving my car much due to covid. We are now back in the office 1 day a week. In July 2022, I had my brakes done by a licensed mechanic and I informed him about the issue I was experiencing and he told me it was my torque converter, his mother has the same issue with her 2013 Camry and Toyota is aware of the problem and not paying for the repair l. In oct or Nov, I took my car to heritage Toyota in om for my usual maintenance and I informed the advisor of the issue and he stated it’s my torque converter and the warranty has expired and I will be responsible for the $2000 repair. I never received the letter they claimed was sent and no one can send me proof of the letter that they was sent to me. I can’t understand how Toyota is not responsible for this problem they knew would eventually would happen and when asked why didn’t they fixed it when I was bringing my car in for maintenance I was told because I did not report there was a problem. I told the advisor it wasn’t a problem then, I am experiencing the problem now. He didn’t have an answer. I even called Toyota corp and getting the same reply. I am now thinking my transmission is going up due to this issue. Please help me!! thank you.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2018

The car hesitates when you push the gas at around 20 to 25 mph.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2018

Car seems to have slight fuel feed problem - you can feel the car slightly hesitating sometimes when just driving down the road. Every once in a while, when pulling out onto busy boulevard, after you have pulled half way out in the road, the car will not go, even tho you are stepping on the gas. This is very scary, because the other cars are coming at you, and they are expecting you to move on out of the way. The problem is intermittent: it seems to happen mostly after the car has been driven a little bit, like going to the store, then car sits for awhile, then you get back in and drive, and that is when it happens.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2017

Unexpected acceleration on January 30, 2017, at 7:50 am, my car experienced ua in my office parking lot at 4917 waters edge drive, raleigh, nc 27606 while backing into a parking space. My car increased speed, knocking down a wooden retaining wall and attempting to climb a hill. I then after several attempts was able to placed the car in drive only to have it shoot across the parking lot, t-boning a car entering and knocking it on the sidewalk while I continued onto the yard. I was finally able to placed car in drive and the motor continued to rev until after several attempts was able to shut it down. Of note, none of my car's airbags deployed. However, the other vehicle's both side passenger air bags deployed. I went on line and reported my problem to Toyota with pictures and police report the next day. They asked for a written consent to allow them to get the data recorder. After numerous calls to follow-up, on may 12 I received a response that when they drove the vehicle everything was fine.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2016

When accelerating from a stop the vehicle will sometimes move about 10 feet and then hesitate for about 1 to 2 seconds. It will then accelerate normally.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

When accelerating from a stop the vehicle will sometimes move about 10 feet and then hesitate for about 1 to 2 seconds. It will then accelerate normally. One time the vehicle accelerated to about 20 mph and then the engine rpm returned to idle. The accelerator was pushed to the floor and the rpm remained at idle. The accelerator was released and pushed down again. The vehicle accelerated normally. This happened only one time. The intermittent hesitation is very dangerous when trying to cross a busy intersection when the cross traffic is uncontrolled. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for the problem. The technician could not duplicate the condition. The u760e torque converter shudder recall upgrade was performed. This did not fix the problem. The service advisor said that the technician said that some transmission hesitation was normal. The service advisor also said there had been other complaints about this condition. There are also complaints on the online automobile forums. This condition is dangerous and not normal.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

This incident occurred on October 14, 2014 at approximately 2pm. I was leaving my dentist's parking lot. I backed out of my parking spot, stopped and with my foot on the brake to shift into drive, the car shot backward at a very high rate of speed. To avoid hitting the building I turned the wheel sharply, but could not avoid hitting a parked car. Damage to my vehicle was almost $3000. I reported the incident to Toyota and they did an inspection on my vehicle and said they found nothing wrong so I must take responsibility for the accident.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2014

Toyota has another throttle problem. I bought a 2103 Camry se on March 30th 2013 from larry miller Toyota and it exhibits an intermittent throttle problem. When I start from a stop some times it seems as if the engine dies. It does not as the engine does not need to be restarted. The throttle is simply non-responsive. The car moves ahead a little and virtually dies. This can occur going straight ahead, turning right or worse yet in the process of making a left turn. This is very much a safety issue when executing a turn when it appears one has a break in traffic and the car barely moves. The car has been back to the dealer and there is no failure code so they say they cannot verify the problem and that it is working as it should. I went out for a short ride with the shop foreman and I could not replicate the problem. He did say that he had 3 or 4 other vehicles with a similar problem. I did leave the car with them for 2 days and they drove it 54 miles and could not duplicate the problem. My suggestion to the dealer and to Toyota is to determine what is most likely to cause this problem and replace it and see if this will fix it. They will not do this. It must be a problem they can verify “find a failure code”. I have asked them to replace the throttle transducer which is $250 if replacing it does not fix the problem I would pay for it. The lack of a failure code just means it is not a hard problem and failing in a manner they anticipated when they set up there failure trouble shooting procedures.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2013

I bought a 2013 Toyota Camry from germain Toyota, columbus ohio less than 24 hours ago on 10/26/2013, this was a Toyota certified used car with 160 point inspection and 3 year/36,000 and 7 year/100,000 powertrain warranty, was hardly 6 months old with only 8,274 miles on it when I took possession. In less than 24 hours back in dayton some major problem appeared while driving, first the engine started making some small noise but no warning indicator came up on the dashboard, later on after about a mile it suddenly and completely stopped while I slowed down for a red traffic light. I turned off the ignition and restarted the car, then it suddenly stopped again while getting on the I-75 highway exit. There were cars behind me and crossing by and it was a very dangerous situation considering it suddenly and completely stopped while driving as I slowed down a little bit. All this happened without any warning indicator on the dashboard, and considering this is a current year 2013 Camry model with Toyota certified and very low mileage this is extremely unsatisfactory and put me and my wife at danger. I'll also try to contact the dealer and Toyota customer service separately, I'm also not sure if Toyota or the dealer had any prior knowledge of the defect or were just careless considering they did a 160 point inspection and sold this as a Toyota certified used car. Considering I bought this less than 24 hours ago, I'll try to return this to the dealer and if there is any hassle I would like to pursue this further in the court. Please contact me if NHTSA would like to test or look at the vehicle.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2013

The car engine and rpm go up when the car go down hill or you slow down in traffic at speed 45/35/25 mph. Reasonlly it happen more often at speed of 25/35 mph with full tank or 3/4 of gas tank. When I'm down hill at speed 30 or more then come to the point you need to slow down to make a turn at 25 mph the rpm when up to at some point the rpm up to 2. 5 x 1000. I have notice this issue at my Toyota dealer when my service 10,000 mile and they test the car and said nothing happen to the car. I'm concerning I might end up out of control the car if this issue continues happen and I'll be in the car accident.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2013

The dates above are approximate as my car is back at the dealership. The car would vibrate at 20, 40 and 60 mph it would also lose power when taking off from a stop. I got the run around I bought new tires had an aligned changed the fuel being used. Finally they said it was my tranmission. They replaced the tranmission and did a software update. I am now at 100,000 and having the exact same problem. I am convinced this is a known issue from what I see online I have no idea why Toyota hasn't officially ordered a recall! I believe I have a lemon and they should replace my car! my 16 year old daughter was driving she took off from a stop sign and was almost hit from the side the car was vibrating and wouldn't accelerate. This is a very dangerous issue. My car is currently back at pat lobb Toyota waiting on their diagnosis once again!.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Hesitation occurs when accelerating across an intersection or pulling into traffic, usually from a stopped position. Car initially starts then hesitates & feels like it will shut off. To get across the intersection you need to "floor it" which makes the engine "roar" but little action for all the noise. This has happened numerous times in 2 yrs (estimated date & mileage for 1st occurrence). Sometimes there are long stretches between occurrences. It is dangerous & I lack confidence at times to pull out. The technician didn't experience the problem when mentioned on 2 stops at the deal for an oil change. Torque converter software update made no difference. My previous Camry never had this problem.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2013

Vehicle was purchased new in April 2013. For as long as I have owned the car, the engine has had a loud wineing noise when driving 10 -35 mph, always when accelarating. The noise is considerable and noticable, sounding like a transmission or possible engine problem. Being skeptical of my myself, I have driven 2 friend's Camrys with 4 cylinder engines I have also driven a 2013 Toyota rav4 with the exact engine and 6 speed gear transmission. None of these make the loud wineing noise my engine makes (1 a 2012 Camry and the other a 2013 Camry model and 1 rav4 2013 model). I have mentioned it 3 times on 3 different service visits to dealer. Each time they write it off as transmission gear shifting with 6 speed auto transmission. I do not buy this due to every car I have driven the engine's are quiet at these speeds and do not make the high wineing noise my car makes. Matter of fact, they were considerably quiet to the point you cannot even hardly hear the engine. I know that this is not exactly a safety issue but a great concern in which I am being ignored. Just wanted to see if anyone else has this issue as well. Note that I am a automotive glass parts supplier & electrical engineer and I do not imagine things.
