general problems of the 2014 Toyota Camry

When leaving from a stop as I accelerate between 20-30 mph it hesitates and will not go. I have to take my foot off and put it back on to go.

My car pulls back as I'm driving and or breaking. Specially when im in the freeway passing 40 miles per hour. Have take. It to get check but they tell me it's a computer glitch between engine and system. I'm concern it may cause a problem on the road.

The basic issue is unintended acceleration. I reported this issue four (4) separate times to the local Toyota dealer in my area: 1/20/2020 - 5/2/2020 - 9/28/2020 and most recently on 6/13/2022. The most recent incident resulted in an accident whereby I backed into a building while parking and caused more than $5,000 damage. All incidents were reported to and investigated by two (2) different Toyota dealers in my area: simi valley, CA and thousand oaks, CA. The investigation resulted in no findings and to this point in time, fortunately, no one was a hurt nor was there another vehicle involved - yet. Just a few days ago - 10/31/22 - my wife and I were in this same vehicle running errands when this happened again. While coming to a stop at an intersection, the accelerator raced while I had my foot on the brake. It was only because I reacted as quickly as I did that we did not become involved in an accident. I was able to quickly shift the vehicle into neutral until the engine revving subsided after several seconds. Had I not, both my wife and I would have certainly been injured or worse by cross traffic. This issue cannot be predicted and the analysis that has been performed thus far both by Toyota and aaa has uncovered no detectable problem - as I understand it - because this only occurs when the vehicle is moving at about 5-10 mph (decelerating) in preparation to come to a stop. This issue makes operating this vehicle highly unsafe and I cannot allow anyone else to operate the vehicle because of my fear that it will happen again. I just don't know when.

Unintended accelerator: the latest occurrence of this issue has resulted in the 4th time I have reported it to the dealer and taken it in for investigation of the issue. Three (3) times in 2020 [January, may and September] I took the vehicle to the Toyota dealer in simi valley California and each time they advised that they found nothing. I stressed to them that I was concerned about the possibility of having an accident and that I would not allow anyone else but me to operate the vehicle. Overall, this event has occurred about 6-7 times. Normally, I'm in the vehicle alone but in April of 2022, I had my wife and grandson in the car when it happened again. As before, I was able to to put the car into neutral and hit the brake until the issue had passed. It happens so sporadically and unexpectedly that I cannot anticipate it. Of course, even if I take it to the dealer, they are unable to replicate it. Until this most recent event, I have been fortunate enough to react by sliding the transmission into neutral and applying the brake to avoid a collision until the accelerator slows down enough to slip the transmission back into drive and move on. Most recently, on 10 June 2022, I was returning home from work and, as I do customarily, I began to back into an open parking spot when the accelerator raced again unexpectedly. As I had done successfully previously, I attempted to slide the gear shift into neutral but was unable to do so quickly enough and, as a result, I ran over the curb and banged into a wall situated about 2-3 feet behind the curb.

Fuel filler neck leaks during fueling.

Camry shudders badly at speeds between 25-40 mph when shifting gears in automatic transmission. Toyota has a TSB on this shudder but not my vechicle for some reason. During car shudders and heisitates making it feel unsafe.

Takata recall when I press on gas engine is vibration and it's not moving. The front just don't feel right.

Toyota unintended acceleration. When stopping at exit from parking lot car suddenly and powerfully accelerated pressed hard on brake and turned off ignition to stop it same thing happened-my driveway 15 minutes later.

When pressing the gas pedal to accelerate the Camry is experiencing hesitation and seems to wait 5-10 seconds before picking up speed. I experienced this when accelerating from 30-40mph when preparing to merge into highway traffic. Felt very dangerous.

Having acceleration trouble with my 2014 Toyota Camry made a right turn and try to accelerate but the engine did not go the car stole let go of the accelerator and try again and the car finally accelerated really scary at the dealer now !but they have not been able to duplicate the problem .

The engine 'stalls' or 'hesitates' when going into motion from a stopped or slow position, as in pulling out into traffic or turning on a side road. It is sporadic so I never know when it is going to happen. It has almost caused accidents on several occasions since the vehicle 'stops' instead of going faster. I have to take my foot off the gas and pat the gas a few times to get it moving again. This has been reported several times to my Toyota dealership and they say everything is running correctly according to the computer. They suggested I bring it in when it happens, which I did several times, but since it is sporadic, it didn't happen for them. They keep saying there is nothing wrong. The mechanics shrug and say they have not heard of anyone else with this issue, but from reading this, I am not the only one. When an accident happens, let it be known now that I have made it public that there is indeed a problem with the car that they need to address. The car has been happening ever since I bought it new and happens several times a month to this day.

I called the dealership today and reported it and they say it is a common issue reported by consumer and schedule me to bring it in next Wednesday however I expressed my deep concern for my safety and my family.

This is especially problematic and downright scary when making left turns at intersections or changing lanes. I press on the gas and there is a significant delay.

When I accelerate, hesitation and stalling occur. Feels as if the transmission is slipping. It interferes with my driving severely.

While slowly pulling into a parking place, car suddenly accelerated. Applied the brakes, but they did not work. Crashed into a bush and the side of the building where I work. Put car in neutral and applied brakes again. . Then put it in park. Airbags did not deploy and there is approx. $1,000 damage to front fender and headlight on drivers side. Am leasing this car and lease is up in under 90 days. I want to trade this immediately but want to report issues with this car so that Toyota will fix it before someone else gets it.

I seen that someone was having a problem with the car feeling like the car would feel like it was braking when they pressed on the gas. I had this problem with my Camry and found out that Toyota was trying to fix there sudden acceleration problem. They put something in the brake system that stop the car from accelerating. So, I had a problem having my left foot touching the brake pedal and by touching the brake pedal it would slow the car and stop it from accelerating. I just stopped touching the brake and did not have the problem again. Try excellerating then touch the brake pedal slightly while still excellerating and see if this slows the car from excellerating. That might solve your problem.

At time when you press the accelerator the engine will not respond, then it jumps and takes off very fast. I think it is dangerous when changing lane, coming on a ramp into the interstate or other fast moving lanes. Both not moving and/or jumping on the traffic. I was told it was a computer problem and cannot be tuned?.

The vehicle intermittently hesitates (stalls) at starts and at other times as well. We have notified Toyota of this situation twice. At first this was just a nuisance (shorter hesitations), but now it is happening more frequently and the hesitations are longer leaving us in more precarious situations. When we arrived today I explained the hesitation problem. Some of xxx statements were rather troubling to (1) "this is a new system. There is no longer a wire and throttle. You need to learn to re-drive with it. " (2) "though we have equipped all Toyotas with this new system, this hesitation problem is predominately in Camrys. " (3) "I have a 15 Toyota avalon and I have been waiting for it to happen to me. It has not happened yet. " (4) "if the computer engine light is not on, then your car is operating within spec. There is nothing wrong with your system. " (5) "new Camrys have a lot computers and you need to allow all the interfaces of the all the computers in the vehicle to communicate with one another. This causes some delay. " these statements were stated before (1, 2, 4) and after (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) the car was inspected. I told xxx repeatedly that this was our second visit to germain to report the problem and that this hesitation may cause us to have an accident. Xxx kept insisting that it was not Toyota's / computer's fault, that we just needed to learn to re-drive the car. I disagree that "if the computer engine light is not on, then your car is operating within specs. " Toyota needs to acknowledge that computers can break, be loaded with improper information, be set up incorrectly, etc. Something is causing this hesitation "primarily" in Camrys! in our opinion, all Toyota Camrys with this "new system" should be recalled and this situation addressed immediately. We are hoping that Toyota will do the right thing for all Camry owners.

After coming to a stop at a red light on a four lane highway, when the light turned green, the 2014 Toyota Camry would not move forward for about 5 sec. The second incident occurred on the same day. When attempting a left turn across traffic, the car stalled again for about 3 seconds. It was a rental from hertz and was exchanged for another auto.

Driver was slowing down, coasting before applying brake to turned left into driveway. Driver applied brake and car accelerated very strong but brief; driver then applied brake very firmly, and car stopped; but by this time, car missed driveway entry, and had to back up to restart entry. This same scenario has occurred 3 times with 2 different drivers. Other 2 occurrences were less strong, sub-second acceleration "blips" Toyota case #ta151210472.

This car has a reoccurring problem, it stalls when attempting to accelerate from a low speed (10 to15 mph) to merge into traffic flow. This problem happened 5 or 6 times in the first 6 months of service. We returned it to the dealership and reported the problem. They found no cause for the problem at that time. Since that time the car has stalled at least 4 more times. We will return to the dealership sept. 8th to try to get the problem resolved. On at least 2 of the stalling things it nearly caused serious collisions. I looked on your data base and found other instances of the Camry stalling with no resolution provide by Toyota or the selling dealership. Please look into this as there is a great potential for serious injury.

I do not know if it is a power train, engine, transmission or accelerator pedal that tis causing the problem. This problem is intermittent, that is, it doesn't happened all the time. The first time the problem happened was when the car was very new -100km - and I pressed on the accelerator to pass a vehicle and nothing happened, the car seemed to be dead then a few moments later - 1-2 seconds - the car just took off. The next it happened was at 2500 miles and the car was about 20 min. Into driving in the late fall . I came to a stop sign and the traffic was very heavy. I saw an opportunity to get into traffic and pressed on the accelerator and nothing happened the car just didn't move. Then all of a sudden it took off spinning its wheels and I almost lost control. The next time it happened was on a very cold day and again I was at a stop sign and pressed on the accelerator to go ahead and . . . Nothing. Then all of a sudden it just took off. I have taken the car to the service center and they drove it for 20 minutes and after a charge of $24. 00 they said that nothing is wrong. I did tell them it was an intermittent problem. This is very scary because of the lapse of response and then a sudden response can leave the driver in a dangerous situation. To prevent an accident I try not to expect immediate response from my accelerator. Has there been ""hidden recall" to this problem?.

I was traveling on a freeway at approximately 60 mph. The vehicle abruptly lost power when I "stepped on the accelerator" to compensate for a slight upgrade on the freeway, and subsequently slowed to approximately 20 mph, forcing me to pull onto the shoulder and stop the vehicle. The vehicle idled normally while parked on the shoulder; however, the vehicle had no power, would not accelerate above 20-25 mph, and forced slow travel on the shoulder of the road in an attempt to reach the nearest off-ramp. . I was forced to travel along the shoulder of the freeway at approximately 20 mph for two or three miles. Each time I attempted to "step on the gas" while traveling of the shoulder of the freeway, the engine would "stumble", appear to lose power, and force me to let up on the "gas. " after traveling on the shoulder of the freeway for two to three miles, the vehicle abruptly regained power and allowed me to resume freeway travel at 55-60 mph. Prior to the 24 August, 2014, incident on the freeway, the vehicle momentarily lost power when accelerating on a freeway on-ramp; however, the problem was only a momentary event that corrected itself in a few seconds.

While driving (doesn't matter the speed) my car will suddenly lose power and want to stall,like it's not getting any gas. Stepping on gas pedal does no good. Then it will suddenly kick back in and drive normal untill the next time it feels like doing it. The problem doesn't happen every day,just never know when it will happen. Pretty scary when your on the interstate doing 65mph and your car wants to stall in middle of heavy traffic. I took my car to Toyota dealer,they said they could find nothing wrong,that doesn't change the fact that this stalling problem is happening.

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while the air condition was on, there was an abnormal odor emitting into the vehicle from the vents. The failure recurred multiple times. As a result, the contact and the passenger required medical attention because of the odor. The vehicle was tested for mold and it was confirmed that mold was building up on the heating vents. In addition, water was not draining from the unit causing the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 900. Mf.

I have experienced a hesitation on my 2014 Toyota Camry from the very beginning. Service department said it was down shifting - it isn't. My car hesitates from a complete stop, or while trying to accelerate while driving (merging onto a hwy or trying to pass a vehicle). This happens at any speed. I never know when it will happen. Very dangerous!.
