While driving at speed over 45 mph or going up a steep hill car starts to shutdown and shudder causing a serious safety concern. I could have been killed. I understand this is related to oil consumption problem that Toyota has failed to address in the 2014 model. What can be done? this is criminal!.
When leaving from a stop as I accelerate between 20-30 mph it hesitates and will not go. I have to take my foot off and put it back on to go.
The vehicle has a shudder at accelerating that will prevent proper acceleration. I had a few incidents where I needed to get out of a traffic situation that out me in danger and the vehicle almost stalled. I read about this shudder, Toyota das a warranty engagement notification-ze5. However it was for 8 years and under 150000 miles. I am well under 150000 but just over 8 years.
The vehicle shudders when switching from 2nd gear to 3rd gear at average acceleration and light load. It is an ongoing issue. Upon researching I found TSB sb0034-14r2 which appears to describe my issue. I took it to the dealer and they said I had to change the entire transmission, the torque converter and update the ecm software. When I called Toyota hq customer service, they said the previous owner was notified of the issue and they didn't bring it in. They were willing to fix it for free up to may 2022 and I bought it after that. What I don't understand is why they aren't willing to at least provide a free ecm software update since this is likely an issue that existed in the software from the time it was manufactured. Software updates don't require a large amount of labor or a change of parts and it could remediate this safety issue. The shudder could cause me to get in an accident and get injured.
I was slowly pulling into a parking space at the nordstrom store in dunwoody, georgia, when the car suddenly self-accelerated, jumped the curb and hit a concrete pillar. The pillar was about 15 feet from the parking area curb. Pressing the brake did not slow the car.
While stopped at a red light with my foot on the brake pedal only, the power switched from the battery of this hybrid vehicle to gas and started racing, causing the vehicle to accelerate and move through the crosswalk and into the intersection. ? had there been pedestrians in the crosswalk or traffic at the intersection, the outcome could have been tragic. I applied pressure to the brake which did not readily stop the vehicle until it had crossed into the intersection. Once the engine stopped racing and the car has come to a halt, I pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and tested it to determine if I could still drive it. I reported the problem to the dealer and they kept the vehicle for 2 days. I could feel the difference in the way the loaner vehicle performed. They indicated the problem was fixed although no other information was disclosed. Without reading the receipt, I drove the vehicle again, constantly alert to the problem and when the engine started racing and the vehicle started moving forward. I lifted my foot off the brake and kept slamming it against the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. I was recovering from an ulcer on the bottom of the second toe of my right foot which started bleeding leaving a wide hole on the underside of my toe. I reported this to my podiatrist who scheduled me for an emergency appointment. The phalanges in that toe were had been demolished by the force applied. The tendons had separated and the toe could not be salvaged. I was sent to the hospital to have the toe amputated and to see if the metatarsals could be spared. I went back to the dealership and the only work they did during the course of the week was to tint the windows that I begged them not to do. I have been unable to drive the vehicle.
On July 6, 2022 I was told by walser Toyota in bloomington, mn that they would not repair a known defective torque convertor part that was evidently under an extended warranty until March 21, 2022. The issue with the torque converter mimicked driving over a bumpy road until recently when it would stop my ability to accelerate while driving. In one incident it caused me to press the gas much harder than necessary in order to keep the car moving and nearly caused an accident. I was also pulled over and ticketed for speeding in a separate incident due to the unexpected acceleration caused by trying to overcome the effects of the defective part. I looked online and saw that thousands of other Toyota Camry owners between the years of 2012-2014 are experiencing the same unsafe driving as a result of thedefectivd torque convertor/transmission issue. However, Toyota failed to disclose this issue. They are stating they didn't feel it was necessary because it was not officially labeled a recall. I plan to seek assistance by any escalation means necessary. Toyota needs to be held responsible before any more people are injured or property is damaged.
May 8 2022 the vehicle was parked when I took it out of park it accelerated even when I repeatedly slammed on the brakes it continued to accelerate. It caused me to hit another vehicle and almost into a house. Airbags didn't deploy either. . . . Prior to the incident a check hybrid system was the only warning I guess the vehicle had given. Which we had a appointment to get checked tomorrow. May 9th 2022.
When my car takes off it hesitate to move and when it does it take off. Something in the tires pop when you drive.
I have experienced issues with my vehicle when shifting since 2017 withal minor “shudder” after shifting into a higher gear. Now, my vehicle has begun to have trouble shifting from first gear to second. When shifting, the vehicle will abruptly stop before catching in second gear and continuing. It has become a concern as I am not confident to pull out onto busy roads.
Hesitation between first and second gear, sputtering feeling.
On 2 occasions, months apart, shortly after starting the car, I had to slam on the brakes to stop the car. The gas did not let up when I took my foot of the gas petal and put it on the brake.
Car was parked on a driveway, and, when put in reverse, the car accelerated at high speed for roughly 60 feet until it ran into a hill. Then, when put in drive, car accelerated at high speed for roughly 90 feet and ran through heavy vegetation and then into and partially through a garage wall. Brakes were applied during the entire incident with no effect. Causes of failure are unknown. Cost to repair car is about $9000. Cost to repair garage, landscaping, and contents are not yet know.
When car was completely stopped at a stop sign, car made a loud noise and started shaking. Then car accelerated on its own. Brakes locked. Car wouldn't stop in neutral or in park gear. It caused an accident by rear ending the car in front of me. Car accelerated very quickly and steering wheel locked as well. Passenger in car heard the noise too. The car accelerated abruptly on its own.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while entering his garage, when depressing break pedal, the vehicle accelerate forward causing him to lose control and hit a garage wall. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated he was unaware if their was any warning light was illuminated. The contact stated the front bumper was damaged. The contact did not sustained any medical injuries. The contact stated he fixed the bumper on his own. The vehicle was taken to local dealer family Toyota of arlington located at 1661 wet n wild way, arlington, TX 76011, (682) 227-8877, three weeks after the accident and was informed needing torque converter clutch to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but shortly after the battery became faulty. The dealer exchanged the battery. The manufacturer had been informed of failure and send an investigator to see his vehicle. The failure mileage was 7,754. Dp.
Just about completely stopped at stop sign at end of street - without warning car accelerated extremely fast, crossed 2-lane street - drove into church parking lot on an incline turned and back across the 2-lane street and my vehicle hit neighbor's truck head on. Both cars totalled. Had absolutely no control of steering and brakes did not stop the vehicle. Police took report - my passenger and I told the same sequence of events as well as a neighbor who saw everything that happened. Every single airbag went off.
When accelerating from a stop the vehicle will sometimes move about 10 feet and then hesitate for about 1 to 2 seconds. It will then accelerate normally. One time the vehicle accelerated to about 20 mph and then the engine rpm returned to idle. The accelerator was pushed to the floor and the rpm remained at idle. The accelerator was released and pushed down again. The vehicle accelerated normally. This happened only one time. The intermittent hesitation is very dangerous when trying to cross a busy intersection when the cross traffic is uncontrolled.
Vehicle have no engine check light. But hesitates n vibrates between 2 and 3 gear.
When turning to a highway on-ramp after slowing for the turn then trying to accelerate on the ramp the vehicle would not accelerate. I would have to release and re-apply the accelerator to accelerate. The dealership they said the brake light switch was out of adjustment causing brakes to take over speed control. They adjusted the brake light switch and problem went away. This is a safety concern because the expectation when on a highway on-ramp is that acceleration is going to occur, traffic behind me could not only be iratethatIam not accelerating(startingaroad rage incident)but it could also cause an accident from the individual behind me not expecting a slow down on the ramp. Toyota made me pay for the repair even though I have and am still covered by the purchased extended warranty and this was a safety concern that was caused by a default in manufacturing process and nothing I could have done to the vehicle to cause the problem. Documentation provided shows what my complaint was to the dealer and what dealer did to fix it with my personal information redacted.
Start to have the following problem on 12/20/2018 get up to 20 mph hard shift and then up to 40 mph has a vibration and then after between 45 and 55 mph it drive normal. Noticeable hesitation when accelerating and shifting occurs between 30-32 mph. Hesitate to accelerate between 2nd and 3rd gear when taking off, it mostly happen when the engine is first starting out from stop, afterward it fine gears shifts correctly and the idle control guage is normal between gears. I took the car to the local Toyota dealer on 01/03/2019, the technician took the car for drive test and he said its a torque converter problem. They changed the torque converter part; on 1/05/2019 I went to the dealer to pick up the car and after driving for few minutes, I noticed the same problem. I retook the car to the Toyota dealer for the same problem, and the same technician took for the test drive, and this time he said it has internal delay on second gear. I am not sure what's the problem, but they advised I need to change the transmission. After doing some research I found the following online. "cars equipped with an automatic transmission might experience a hesitation when accelerating. Revised software for the on board computer is available which may correct this problem. Software revisions are commonly most helpful on newer vehicles. Once the mileage builds up a worn component could cause similar problems. Whenever major transmission work in performed, the transmission software should be updated as necessary". I am taking my car on 01/07/2019 to update the software and see if that can fix the problem.
Tl the contact owned a 2014 Toyota Camry. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle crashed into a guardrail and came to a stop in a driveway. The contact sustained minor injuries to the ribs, which required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and was towed by the police to an unknown lot. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and concluded that there was no failure and the contact was at fault. The failure mileage was 49,000.
On 3/5/18, I was parking my 2014 Toyota Camry in a parking lot at my place of employment. I had my foot on the brake and the car was barely moving when suddenly it accelerated over a curb and into a retaining wall.
When pressing the gas pedal to accelerate the Camry is experiencing hesitation and seems to wait 5-10 seconds before picking up speed. I experienced this when accelerating from 30-40mph when preparing to merge into highway traffic. Felt very dangerous.
The vehicle was taken to the dealership for the problem. The technician could not duplicate the condition. The u760e torque converter shudder recall upgrade was performed. This did not fix the problem. The service advisor said that the technician said that some transmission hesitation was normal. The service advisor also said there had been other complaints about this condition. This condition is dangerous and not normal.
Having acceleration issues with my 2014 Toyota Camry se. The transmission hesitates and seems to lose power when accelerating. Whether I drive in town or freeway (I only commute 11 miles to work). This is especially problematic and downright scary when making left turns at intersections or changing lanes. I press on the gas and there is a significant delay.
On may 25, 2017, while pulling into parking space at a shopping center, my 2014 Toyota Camry accelerated out of control thru the parking space without me pressing the gas pedal. I pressed the brakes and it did not stop the car. My car continued to travel at a high rate of speed thru the parking lot embankment and went thru brushes/shrubs which is where the car stopped after it blew a tire and was stopped by the shrubs. Due to the damage under the car it was a total loss.
I was driving my car from my sons daycare and all of a sudden it wouldnt accelerate. My engine light was on. I put my cat in park and put it back into drive and it jerked but still wold not accelerate. It did this for about 10 min. Until I turned NY car off and restarted it. But the engine light is still on. I was on a busy street in the morning.
"takata inflators" November 29, 2016. Entered vehicle to move it away from curb. Started vehicle and it suddenly without warning accelerated and crashed over two retaining walls and hit a parked car, forcing that hit vehicle into another parked vehicle. Our vehicle continued onward across a parking lot at crashed into a tree. We complained to Toyota and they requested us to release the vehicle to them in order they recover the edr/vch data. We signed a consent form and they quarantined the vehicle until a private contractor could retrieve the data. This took over 10 weeks that we had no use of the vehicle. Toyota finally released the vehicle back to us. Toyota sent us an email stating they discovered nothing wrong. We had the vehicle towed back to cooks collision of davis CA. Which was a repair shop recommended by our insurance liberty mutual insurance CO. The insurance claim #pd000-034712120-01. Cooks collision inspected the damages and determined that the car was too damaged to repair and liberty mutual opted to total the car. This car was a total wreck, however, not one airbag deployed. This is a serious safety problem.
The car hesitates for about 4 seconds when accelerating. It does not happen every time but rather randomly. It typically happens once a day (2 hours of driving). This is extremely dangerous when trying to get on the freeway or going through an intersection. It happens when driving around 15 to 25 mph. After the hesitation the car takes off very fast. The pattern seems to be if you are accelerating slightly as if to enter an intersection and then you take your foot off the pedal to coast (no brake applied) and then you try to accelerate again to get through the intersection. This has occurred since the first day the car was purchased so it is not a wear issue. I have been in many, many near miss situations. There are many people discussing this issue on the web so it is not just me. I even found one site where a Toyota service rep said they see 40 to 50 cars a week with this problem but they keep turning them away saying there is no problem because it is hard to make the problem happen when it is in for service. This is a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed.
The contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. While driving at an unknown speed and making a left turn, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle accelerated and failed to stop. As a result, the contact crashed into the front of another vehicle. The contact was unsure if the air bag deployed. The contact sustained chest, right arm, and leg injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed from the crash scene. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000.
The cruse control on this vehicle, as well as other Toyota vehicles, does not work correctly on hills or inclines. When set at a speed it will continue to increase speed when going down the hill. This is dangerous which could result in someone being killed. I had a corolla before that had same problem my brother-in-law has a Camry that also has the same issue. I spoke to one of the sales persons at l & s Toyota in beckley, wv. He said all Toyotas with this type transmission would not work correctly on a hill. This happens all the time when using cruse on inter state 64 speed limit is 70 miles per hr. Vehicle will be doing 80 before you know it if you don't notice it it is hard to tell how fast you would be going. Accidents could already happened because of this. I am using a date below to continue.
Sometimes when pushing the gas pedal the car will not go. Pushed it to the floor still nothing took a few seconds for it to work again. This has happened a few times already. Usually after stopping then trying to accelerate nothing happens.
On a city street either stationary or in motion, or on highway, when pressing the accelerator pedal suddenly but not 'flooring it' the car hesitates and then feels like it downshifts and is slow to increase speed.
When turning, car is moving slowly forward and car fails to accelerate when gas pedal is pressed to complete the turn. Turning right or left. There is a 5 second hesitation before it kicks in. City driving. Car in motion and there is also an acceleration hesitation when trying to pass a car in highway driving. Unknown component problem. Drive train problem. Transmission problem.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact depressed the brake pedal but the brakes failed. The contact crashed off road into trees and shrubbery. The air bags failed deployed. The vehicle sustained extensive front end and driver side damage. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,900.
