general problems of the 2018 Toyota Camry - part 1

Car stalled while driving and needed to be towed to dealership. Dealership confirmed that there was coolant intrusion into the engine that clogged the fuel injector causing the car to stall while driving. Dealership informed us that car will need a new engine and transmission because of the coolant intrusion. The car stalled while driving and could have led to an accident or loss of life depending on where the car stalled and when. This coolant intrusion has been confirmed by the dealership and shown to us via video they took. The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership and we called Toyota corp to have then review this as a safety issue. They informed us the call stalling was not a safety issue. Unknown on confirmed symptoms prior.

While driving the car, the engine shut down in traffic, and the engine light came on . We took the vehicle in for a flow shut off valve issue (customer support program) and found out that the flow shut-off valve issue resulted in damage to the water pump. We were responsible for the replacement of the water pump, which the program did not cover.

I have a purge valve issue when filling my tank my check engine light comes I smell gas and the engine jerks I have take. It for repair 3 times and they have replaced it but still the same issue occurs when I fill my tank.

The car first stalled ,then the it shut off ,and the car did not start. The car has almost half tank of gas. So I was doing my research on line. And saw 3 recalls and one of them was the fuel pump system for my 2018 Camry le.

I keep getting error code p0304 which says its cylinder 4 misfire the engine starts shaking a bit and most of the warning lights in my dashboard turn on and it disables the parking brake , I took it to a shop and they took out the fuel injectors to visualy inspect them and moved injector 4 to a different cylinder but the same error keeps coming back cylinder 4 misfire , I keep having to spend money and still have the same issue. It only does it on a cold start .

There was a recall in 2022 for the fuel pump. The fuel pump was replaced by a local dealership in north charleston, south carolina. In December, the engine light of my 2018 Toyota Camry came on. It was diagnosed that the fuel pump needs to be replaced. I have appointment scheduled for this Thursday, February 20 at the local dealership for them, too diagnose and replace.

About a month ago my daughter left the Toyota dealership in bradenton FL. After an oil change. She drove several hundred feet, the car stalled and she couldn't start it. The mechanic crew had to push it back into the service area, after been there for 2 days they found no problem, just last Monday [xxx] she filled the car up at a gas station, as she was leaving the car stalled again and she couldn't start it, the car was towed back to same dealership, they could find a problem after being there another 2 days. I believe it's a computer chip problem, which hasn't been resolved by Toyota, I don't want my daughter to have an accident and get hurt due to this problem, perhaps your agency can look into this Toyota problem information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. Multiple issues with radar sensors- disable parking assist, lane assist and rear traffic sensors due to constant malfunctioning - battery has been replaced twice within the past 6 months - vacuum pump for automatic break assist replaced April 2024 - automatic brake assist failed while on vacation and car had to be driven without assisted breaks from new orleans to jackson ms for repair - car can only be driven in sport mode otherwise there is concerning jerking and rough gear change and acceleration lag, this issue has been addressed since the date of purchase but no serious concerns expressed by maintenance professionals. Car has been having major issues now since approximately mid to latejuly 2024 more issues began - rough, fluxuating idle while parked and while driving - battery replaced, air filter replaced, spark plugs replaced, O2 sensors (both) replaced, throttle body replaced, idle air control sensor replaced; all just over the course of 4 months- car sputters and rattles after getting gas - has died after being gassed up 3 separate times since August 2024- maf sensor was the last part considered the potential culprit- order replacement and installed, check engine light immediately came on after installation po607 ecm- removed new maf sensor and reinstalled old one- code was able to be cleared- waiting on another replacement maf sensor- too many codes have been thrown too list here but all parts have been replaced to "fix" the issues without success. Car stalls at redlights and stop signed. Sputters and idles erratically after filling with gas. Idle fluctuates when in park. Car has been well maintained and is my daily driver. I have 3 children and have been stranded at gas stations twice with [xxx] in generally unsafe locations during evening hours since August. On hot days, fuel vapor escapes from the gas tank's filler pipe and condenses and pools inside the fuel access door. The area around the car smells of gas. Sometimes it runs down the side of the car and drips on the ground. This has ruined the paint. We can't put the car in the garage because of the smell, and we are concerned that in an accident there could be a fire. We don't know what part has failed. Toyota installed an upgraded gas cap, but leak is still happening. The safety risks are breathing of gas fumes in and around the car, and the increased risk of fire in an accident. We kept a detailed log of the conditions under which this happens, and shared the log and also video recordings with freeman Toyota near us in santa rosa California. We left the car with them for two hot days (xxx 2024) and they were able to reproduce the problem. The leakage is noticeable only in hot weather, so we first observed the problem in the summer of 2020. I had to take my vehicle to Toyota bc it failed to start. There was an error code that of coolant issue error code and this was reported to the dealership they said that wasn’t the issue and my wires were chewed however I see that there actually is a history of issues with that incident and I wonder if I was given incorrect diagnosis from dealership this costed thousands of dollars from my insurance company and me to fix. Since repair my vehicle has not been the same .

Turned on the car drove about 30 seconds and car states that secondary pre collision emergency brake and it just stops on a busy street with no other signs of defect ever . My vehicle goes to the dealership constantly and is very well taken care of.

I all of a sudden started smellinggas but could not find any leaking underneath the car, also my car started giving lower mileage. Called the extended warranty and submitted the car to firestone auto care. They ran a fuel system inspection and found leak. They removed and replaced the the fuel line and fuel pump. They said the can was at risk of catching fire and this is unusual.

Car does not accelerate from stop at a traffic light intermittently. This poses a risk/hazard as the car behind it closes on it and expects the car to move forward . The vehicle was recalled a year ago for a fuel pump that was supposed to cause the same issue. Its been replaced and the issue has shown up again and now cannot be reproduced by the manufacturer.

My vehicle is displaying a low break message and is telling me to park for safety. However, the vehicle is not movable from my garage.

The a25a-fks engine fails to idle properly and will stall at times due to a cylinder imbalance. Ics malfunction light comes on as well. This puts other people at risk because a vehicle stalling or malfunction of the Toyota safety sense system can lead to car accident. Vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics and couldn’t find the root of the problem. Was told to go to a Toyota dealership. A Toyota dealership inspected the vehicle, done several tests, swapped computer modules and couldn’t find the cause. The dealership replaced fuel injectors, fuel pump and had done a cleaning on the intake and the vehicle still had the trouble code. 4k worth of work and the vehicle still persisted with the issue. What I first noticed from the car was an odd knocking noise when starting the car, followed by excessive white smoke at idle, parking sensors not working, the car improperly starting for the first time followed by a ics malfunction, blinking parking sensor icon and check engine light. Code: p219c. The dealership wants to charge me 10k to take the engine apart to either replace a faulty part (within the engine) or putting in a new engine all together. Several recalls for Toyota Camrys from 2018 and 2020 have sighted defects with the engine blocks causing white smoke and stalling. These recalls should be extended to more manufacturing months as this is a noticeable flaw.

For the past few months I have experienced a sudden loss of power while driving on the freeway and/or while attempting to accelerate. The car will stall, lose power, the engine will rev but not propel the car. I took my vehicle to the dealership twice before they acknowledged that there was an active recall and kept my vehicle for 2 months before calling me and telling me my car was fixed and returning it to me. I drove the car for about a month before it started doing the exact same thing and suddenly losing power as I was driving on the freeway. I took it back to the dealership and was told that the recall part they fixed (that took 2 months) was for safety recall #21ta09 "sudden loss of power braking assist" and that the Toyota 2018-19 fuel pump defect recall #20ta02 announced in January of 2020 and ultimately effecting approximately 3. 34 million vehicles did not apply to my specific VIN # even though it applies to the year, make, model and issue that I am having. This is a serious safety issue and I am gravely concerned about my own safety and that of any potential passengers I may have in my vehicle. I would like to know what criteria would be necessary to have equitable application of the recall extended to my vehicle (VIN #).

Blank spots in gas pedal.

Auto stalls at lower speeds(10 to 30 mph) when accelerating from a stop. After slowing as when entering a parking lot or making a turn, and then attempting to accelerate it stalls temporarily, maybe half a minute or so then accelerates like mad. Danger of cars behind me expecting me to proceed and I am unable to do so. Have requested toyoto dealer to check and as this is infrequent he can not confirm or fix. Same problem has been fixed by Toyota on other 2018 Camry by recall. My car has not been recalled.

I bought a 2018 Toyota Camry xle in may 2020. One week after purchase, the vehicle stalled minutes after putting gas. The check malfunction indicator lamp came on, and the vehicle shut off. The vehicle turned on again after approximately 30 minutes. Eight months later I received a recall notice regarding a fuel pump malfunction. Toyota replaced the low-pressure fuel pump in March 2021. In early November 2021, the same malfunction indicator lamp turned on and the car shut off. I restarted the vehicle and it turned back on. On November 30, 2021, I put gas in the vehicle, and after approximately 5 minutes of driving the malfunction indicator lamp turned on and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle wouldn't turn back on until 20 minutes later. The vehicle was taken in for inspection, but no issues were found. The same malfunction indicator lamp and vehicle stalling continue to occur.

Toyota needs to amend their vehicle specs. The actual mileage on the car after my 4. 5 years of ownership was totally different than what was claimed. Upon purchase I was able to achieve 44 mpg, and when fueling completely the remaining distance on the display read about 400 miles. Now I can only achieve 22 mpg and when fueling vehicle completely it now reads 320 miles remaining. This is a lie and must be admitted by Toyota that it is a grim underestimate. Driver habit has nothing to do with this, I am a very careful (almost slow) driver and the fact that mileage varies this much after a few years of ownership makes no sense. I am dreading the day that this will eventually read 15 mpg on the display. At that point I am definitely selling this car and looking to another brand like Lexus. It is truly ironic how my dad owns a 2015 tundra that still works like a pro and is able to achieve around 15 mpg consistently even after 7 years of ownership, and my mom's 2019 sienna is now starting to struggle reaching 17 mpg after just a few years of driving. Toyota needs to seriously start concentrating more on vehicle/mechanism reliability instead of trying to install a million safety features (which I find for the most part unnecessary) like every other car manufacturer. What happened to the reliability that was there nearly 10 years ago? it's a shame because I am really trying to love my car and do whatever I can do make sure that it is running smoothly always but my efforts seem to be in vain all the time. My car has other issues as well besides this and at this point it's hard to believe that it will still be functioning great for another 10 years.

Since I brought this car at dealer shop June 1 2021 and I’m about a month went to repair vacuum pump which paid to the mechanic after that check engine light came out little by little start to have more problem until October 1st 2021 stop working doesn’t run no more couldn’t do nothing at all it does start but doesn’t run when the car is lyft up the wheel kinda runs little bit but putting on d and wheel goes reverse and putting on r the wheel doesn’t run nothing at all. Spoke with dealer shop manger all he say don’t call me here no more hung up. I tow car to Toyota dealer all they say is seven grand to have transmission fix which its not transmission at all the scanner says transmission pass please help me now my car is been repo and because I didn’t pay payment for what because car is not working and running I don’t have money or job without car my life is done I need this car back ASAP please.

My car started to have issues while driving, especially when I slow down. It wants to die while I’m driving or waiting for traffic so I can turn or entering roundabouts. I recently waited for traffic and found myself turning in front of a semi. I had plenty of time, but through my turn realized that if my car had died that semi would have hit me at 45 mph. There are 2 lights on, check engine and master warning light. I have tried to have the issue fixed twice already and it was better for about 20 miles and then I have the same issue. These issues seem identical to the ones as described in the recalls for the same year make and model of my vehicle, but my specific VIN is not part of the recall. I am concerned it is also part of the same issue. (it seems to have the same symptoms as the recall for the fuel pump issue or the incorrect sized pistons).

In dealer 2 different dealers for 2 computer failures 2x. So called repaired. Car hits the brakes by itself there is no way to turn off the radar on the front of the car. You have to remember to turn it off everytime you drive it. Then the gas pedal and brakes failed. The tow truck guy said just disconnect the battery for 15 minutes to re-set the ecu. Well he did and I had to retrain the car how to shift over several days. Good thing the failure occured at 30mph. I am selling this. I have owned Camry's since the 90's and im afraid to drive this and bought another car. Contact the next owner. Selling it as is. . . . . . . . .

Fuel\propulsion system, there was no power given to the engine when I turned a corner with an exorbitant amount of time. There was a car at least 100 yards away. When I put my foot on the gas pedal there was no power. It felt like the car did not switch gears for the fuel pump or pistons just were not working correctly. The car almost rear-ended me and caused a major accident. This has happened multiple times.

Safety recall since October 2020 yet part is still not available in February 2021 discovered online and no available assistance is available at this time.

Car keeps stalling while getting on the gas and sometimes between gear's.

Was notified that there was a recall on my 2018 Camry . Havent beencalled for repair and my car is over two years old. Doesnt seem to be a fast repair.

Open recall the dealer is refusing to repair. I need this fixed ASAP. I am disabled and will not pay for a car that could cause me to crash.

The car stalls when the gas is pressed. It makes it difficult when changing lanes because there is a delay in departure . This has happened multiple times . I drove another Camry se but the delay wasn't present . . . That's when I realized sometime early wrong with my car.

While driving to pick up my niece from school, the brake light came on and brakes completely locked. I �lmost had an accident, if it weren't for me driving off the road and finally coming to a stop because of the sand. Scary scary scary!!!! after it came to a stop all the lights on dashboard came on. Towed it to Toyota service they're saying it's the brake actuator I've been doing my research and it just happens last year over more than 1. 1 million Toyota's were recalled for the same problem.

Gas comes out of the fuel fill up pipe in warm weather after car has been filled with gas. Car is not over filled. Splashed up to 3 cups of gas onto side of car. Change is gas cap did not solve problem. Charcoal filter replaced but did not fix. Happens when car is parked after being driven.

Fuel keep coming back up from the intake (cap) every-time it's full and happen on hot weather days while in parking lot. It's happened a month after I bought the car (brand new), the dealer tried to replace charcoal canister, but now after a year the problem come back again and been happening for months now, bring to the dealer now (different than the one before), they can't figure out and blame me for overfill. They didn't want to do any repair or further investigation because they don't want to admit that they didn't totally fix the problem, it's easier for them to blame it on the consumers. Problem still there, now I'm worry it can cause an explosion anytime. And this is my only car to commute for now. I have reported this problem to the customer service but they seem not to care at all stating that the dealer did not find anything wrong. Both the dealer & manufacture denied the responsibility even though it's still under warranty. I'm tired and stressful with their irresponsible answers.

When I turn on the key, before ignition and the car is off for several hours, I hear a humming sound coming from the trunk area. I strongly believe it is coming out from the gas pump. I have expressed my concern to my Toyota dealer during my last two services. No feedback has been given to me.

My first problem happened I got my gas my car stopped and check engine lights on then all warning lights on my car . Second time happened right after I got my gas again my car stopped and I pumping my brakes paddle consistently then engine started again . . . I went my dealer they charging higher amount of money I couldn't fix it. . . If I drive over 60 mph my car shaking.

Vehicle hesitate when accelerating and the engine shakes real bad, it feels like a mount is really loose. Vehicle also hesitate to pick up speed after slowing down.
