I was driving my 2018 Toyota Camry se and the brakes went out on me. I managed to keep pumping the brake and slowly apply the emergency brake to bring the vehicle to a stop. After a look by a mechanic, it turned out that the problem was with the brake vacuum pump. The internal parts were completely destroyed. I had to go to a Toyota dealership (longo Toyota of prosper) to get a replacement part. I purchased the part for $691. 85 and had somebody install it for me. I later found out that NHTSA had issued a recall on this exact part for my vehicle after the incident and Toyota failed to inform me of this issue. To follow up with the recall, I took the vehicle to Toyota, and they did nothing to the vehicle and just checked it off from their recall list. The reason I am filing a complaint is because Toyota is refusing to reimburse me for the part that was part of a recall. I filed 2 claims in which I provided them with the receipt and bank statements showing that I purchased the part from a Toyota dealership. Now, they are claiming that the reason they denied my claim is because I did not provide them with a written letter stating how the repair was done, even though a Toyota dealership took a look at the part as part of the recall process and told me that everything looked good. I got the person that worked on the vehicle to write a lengthy letter stating precisely how he did the work. I am trying to file another reimbursement claim request, but now their reimbursement page is down and has been down for at least a week now. I have attempted to try to submit the claim through my laptop, phone, and my ipad and all are giving me the same error message. It is absurd that Toyota almost got me killed and now is refusing to even reimburse me for something they had to cover to begin with. I will provide you will all the documents that I've been trying to submit to Toyota. At this point, I don't know how to get them to acknowlege this issue.

On Feb 20, 2023, during my evening lunch break about 7:30 pm, I drove my car to a nearby gas station to fill it. As I was attempting to back into place, my brakes froze and a "low braking power" message appears in my dash and my car hit a pole because it would not stop. On Feb 21, 2023, I towed it to our family mechanic who informed me that there was a recall on this issue and to take it to a dealer instead. I had it towed to temecula valley Toyota. They offered me a rental car while they repaired the recall issue and sent a request to Toyota to repair the damage to my bumper from the loss of brake performance. I was told there would be no charge because it was a recall. They wanted a deposit of $100 since we only had a debit card not a credit card. On March 8, someone left a message on my voicemail saying Toyota said they were only paying for 2 days and they wanted to let us know they would be charging a substantial amount to our car. This time of the call was 4:48pm. We called back at 4:55p and got no answer. I immediately checked my bank statement and I had been charged $675. Toyota has had my car since 2-21-23 and no info on its return. Customer service relation person called after we did an online complaint with Toyota, and also with a Toyota person at Toyota. Com named matthew. The customer relations person who called around 3-18 or 3-19 and said the case was with Toyota legal. Its 3-28-23 and no information. We want our $675. 00 back because we have auto insurance that covers rentals @ $51 per day. We have reported the accident to farmer's who cannot access our car as long as its at Toyota. We have paid our note and have not had usage of our car and we want that car note returned as well.

The entire brake system became inoperative on my 2018 Toyota Camry on two separate occasions causing a near fatal accident and damaged to my property and to the property of the other driver on the road. The first incident occurred on the freeway while I was driving behind another vehicle. As my car approached the other vehicle, I press down on the brake pedal all the way but my car would not slow down or stop but continue to accelerate thus causing me to rear end the other car. My car gave no prior warning that the brake system was malfunctioning. I was deemed by the insurance company as the responsible party for the accident thus my insurance premium was increased. The second incident occurred when I was in a residential area approaching my driveway. The car again failed to stop when I pressed down on the brake pedal. The emergency hand brake did not work either. I had no choice but to shift the car into parking which cause me to hit the curve and only inches away from my garage door. The brake fluid under the hood of my car bursts thus leaking the fluid all over the street and my driveway. Both of these incidents caused my elderly mother and myself great emotional stress and post traumatic symptoms. Prior to this Toyota issued a recall on all 2018 to 2019 Toyota Camry for the potential brake failure. I had to towed my car to the Toyota dealership for repair. It has been over 3 months and Toyota has done nothing to remedy this problem. They claim the parts for the brakes are back order and that there is a shortage of parts everywhere. This is the only answer I get when I call them for an update. I have spoken to the service manager, the customer relation manager and the corporate office but none are willing to assists me to resolve this matter.

Brake booster failed 1 yr ago. At that time, I was told my car does not qualify for the recall because of the VIN batch. So repairs were made out of pocket. Now, I have a letter from Toyota stating I can get reimbursed for the parts and labor. Great! but when I follow the instructions from the letter to navigate the website, the final instruction states to click on "submit reimbursement request". It does not exist. I called and spoke with Toyota, they were unaware of this issue. I'm not sure where to go from here. The repair was over $1600 and I had to hunt down the part myself. Due to the recall demand, local dealers did not have the part. A nightmare. I.

Break booster vacuum pump needs to be replaced per the diagnostic at the Toyota dealership. My car would not completely start when I was trying to turn it on. The break pad became stiff, unable to press down and a warning message stated “low breaking power”, therefore the car would not turn on and it became not drivable. If this were to happen while I was driving on the road, not only would it put myself in a lot of danger but others as well due to not being able to break. Even though it is not a part of the 2018 Camry recall batch, it is the exact same issue, therefore it is definitely a manufacturing issue.

I got a recall notice earlier in January 2022. On January 17, 2022 as I am driving to work a message appeared on my dash saying low braking power stop in a safe place see owners manual. I haven't driven my car since and I keep contacting the local dealership since it happened and they keep telling me the remedy suppose to be in February and still nothing. It is now March and still no remedy for this. I am getting a little frustrated because I am not able to drive my car. My husband and I are sharing a vehicle but it is sometimes difficult. Please please let me know when a remedy will be available. I am hoping really soon. I am paying monthly for a car that I can't even drive for a couple of months now.
