general problems of the 2018 Toyota Camry - part 1

I was leaving a doctor's office and getting on the highway. When I pressed down on the accelerator, I experienced a sudden loss of power, the check engine light came on, as well as warnings about the front collision system being deactivated. It remained dangerous for me to stay on the highway but it was also difficult to exit the highway safely given the loss of power. When I brought it to a Toyota dealership, they did a diagnostic and it said my transmission had an "internal failure" despite the fact that it only has 85k miles on it.

While operating my vehicle, the multi information display between the tachometer and rpm gauges flashed bold red letters brake (even though nothing was in front of us at all) then the screen went 100% black. When that happens, the majority of the safety features are obsolete because you cannot see or read what caused the beep. Also, the odometer could not be seen as well as feul eveonomy, if cruise control was engaged, what gear your engine is in if sports mode is activated (in which occurs if accidently hitting the gear switches on your steering wheel just turning it), unable to see maintenance messages, cannot control the sensor settings. . . Nothing. When I finally had enough money to even get the car diagnosed (roughly $187), the corwin Toyota dealership asked me for the mileage, and I had to tell them to tell me. They did confirm the instrument panel/cluster to be defective, however, I and my extended warranty company had to pay the bill. 53,252 miles when they serviced it. When I paid my portion, I asked lori how long will this one last and she told me, "they are suppose to last the duration of the car's life. " I replied, "um, but. . . ". On April 17th I called Toyota's customer engagement line and spoke with them about the defective part and repair. Dorian told me that with the part replaced carries a 1 year warranty. If Toyota designed essentially all the safety features, eco features, cruise control, gears to only be seen or controlled on that multi-informational display within the instrument panel/cluster, they should be required to fix it at no cost to customers for the lifetime of the car. I took video of it before I dropped it off to be serviced. , but even corwin Toyota in fargo, nd, has video footage of the mechanic's assessment.

The vacuum brake pump assembly malfunctioned and I had the vehicle taken to the dealer that did the original recall for the vacuum brake pump assembly and they inspected the vehicle and told me that was the issue along with the nipple inside the pump had broken off and fell down into the engine and had damaged the cam shaft. Exactly what the recall states. Yes the vehicle can and has been inspected its at the dealer still and has been since 06/12/2024 when this occurred. The safety of my wife and daughter and any other people in any vehicle in front of mine due to the brakes got extremely hard to push and the vehicle would not stop properly. Almost plowed into a Jeep wrangler that was in front of her when trying to pull into the grocery store. Yes the dealer butler Toyota the service manager thomas is the person I have been directly dealing with and he has tryed to contact Toyota to get an answer and they wont give an answer. He has even contacted his southwest Toyota service contact and they have tryed to get some info for me but no answers. The vehicle has been inspected by the service manager and a technician from butler Toyota and thats where all my service and the recall was done. There was no warning or messages before this but when the pump went out and the brakes would not stop the car there is a message in the info center now that this occurred. My wife and daughter was on there way home from dance and was stopping by the grocery store when she went to stop she couldnt almost rammed the back of a Jeep in front of her. She pulled into the parking lot turned the car off and called me. When I arrived about 15 minutes later there was I thought brake fluid all under the car. I then had another person ask if I needed help and I asked him would he help me push the car just about a foot or so backwards to see what was leaking. When I put my finger in it it was motor oil. I immediately told my wife that it was not drivable and took the vehicle to butler Toyota.

Car does not accelerate from stop at a traffic light intermittently. This poses a risk/hazard as the car behind it closes on it and expects the car to move forward . The vehicle was recalled a year ago for a fuel pump that was supposed to cause the same issue. Its been replaced and the issue has shown up again and now cannot be reproduced by the manufacturer.

Some times car will not accelerate no matter how much stepping on the gas pedal, car will slow down like its going to stop or no power to the car while car is moving/driving. All lights on the dash board lights up, one of them that is known is the "brake malfunction" light.

I have had issues with the breaks since I purchased the vehicle. The first recall I got the vacuum pump replaced. I still have the same issue. I have been having the break issue but recently had an issue slamming on my breaks after someone was coming around the corner too fast in my garage and feeling pushback from the break petal and not breaking fully. I actually did hit her care but she only had scratches and decided not to file a claim (I have the date and pictures as well). I bought this Camry feeling confident and I actually worry about my breaks I even got them replaced thinking they were worn out but I still have the same issue.

After owning this vehicle for almost 4 years, the "jerky" feeling that other individuals have faced is still there, although not as severe now after I figured workarounds. However I do not like having anyone else in my vehicle as they tend to get visibly uncomfortable once they feel that jerk while the vehicle is in motion. It is nearly impossible to have a smooth transition when the vehicle has to slow down and accelerate immediately. There is almost always a significant 2-3 second delay when you have to accelerate quickly into moving traffic. If I let my foot off the gas while in motion I can feel the gears thud while in motion to accommodate for the loss in speed. Dealerships I've went to have reset the 'software' multiple times and say that the jolts are something I have to get used to and that the car 'learns' from your driving habits. A Toyota dealership rep also told me that Lexus's have this problem too. Clearly this is something that Toyota has not paid attention to since they overhauled and completely redesigned their 2018 lineup. A vehicle is not a pet and should not have to be trained. I am unsatisfied with how Toyota does not seem to be addressing this common transmission issue and offering repair services. The only workarounds I have experimented with myself and found some degree of success is 1. Turning off eco mode 2. Not using the cheapest gas (if located in socal use #89 when financially able. Costco gas seems to deliver good results). 3. Fully warming up the car before operating for the first time 4. Accelerating gradually (do not step on gas pedal hard) 5. Avoid braking hard (do not tailgate others and allow proper distance between yourself and other drivers) these steps only lessen the severity of the jolts felt but does not totally eliminate them. I don't feel 100% safe while driving this vehicle and am planning on selling it as soon as payments are done.

Since I brought this car at dealer shop June 1 2021 and I’m about a month went to repair vacuum pump which paid to the mechanic after that check engine light came out little by little start to have more problem until October 1st 2021 stop working doesn’t run no more couldn’t do nothing at all it does start but doesn’t run when the car is lyft up the wheel kinda runs little bit but putting on d and wheel goes reverse and putting on r the wheel doesn’t run nothing at all. Spoke with dealer shop manger all he say don’t call me here no more hung up. I tow car to Toyota dealer all they say is seven grand to have transmission fix which its not transmission at all the scanner says transmission pass please help me now my car is been repo and because I didn’t pay payment for what because car is not working and running I don’t have money or job without car my life is done I need this car back ASAP please.

I just brought this car on June 1 2021 then 2 month engine light came out after that October 1 2021 stop running it doesn’t run no more it start but don’t run at all.

Ever since getting my fuel pump kit installed my car jerks when it goes in and out of over drive when increasing speed.

Transmission has a shock when shifting. It also revs high in order to shift, when it does it has to much power. Vehicle can decide when to shift it just jerks.

Vehicle jerks when in motion or before braking. This is dangerous because it could cause an accident. It doesn't seem to properly switch speeds which also cause it to jerk forward. Again, possibly cause an accident. It constantly slows down because it "detects item" when there's absolutely nothing in the road. It will slow down at any time on the highway. I've received 2 master warnings alerts that the dealership said, weren't registered in the vehicles data base. The master alert is loud and fills up my dashboard so, it happened. It happens all the time.

I was able to fix the issue of the vehicle not responding well to bursts of speed, simply turn off eco mode, and refill vehicle with better gas (do not use the cheapest tier of gas available at the gas station, go the next tier up from that). I have owned this vehicle for 3 years now with under 13,800 mi at time of writing. There are steering issues when traveling at high speeds. I share this vehicle with other individuals and all of them complain of the vehicle shaking severely when traveling at high speeds. Steering wheel frequently seems to "lock" in place when driving curves. The recall that is currently in place, 20v682, has been effective since late October 2020 and as of now there is no remedy available. I spoke to a Toyota rep early February and they were anticipating a remedy to be available by the end of the month but there is no remedy available. Tried calling again and this time they were unable to give me an exact date for the remedy to be ready. Meanwhile I am reading more and more complaints of other drivers with the same vehicle stalling while in motion, endangering not just their own lives but the lives of other drivers and passengers as well. The last thing I want is for me or my own family members to be in a severe accident and possibly lose our lives. It is irresponsible for Toyota to keep us all waiting for such a long time for a remedy. There seem to be more and more recalls affecting all Toyota branded vehicles due to poor qc. If they could only take the time to properly test all products before release them to the public, we would not have to drive in our vehicles feeling on edge and uncomfortable all the time. If these recalls keep coming I am seriously considering selling the vehicle once my payments are done in 3 years, and consider looking elsewhere for brands who value safety instead of adding more tech gadgets to hike up prices.

There has been several misfires when starting the car, and the car sometimes goes into like an idle mode. The dashboard states 27 mpg, but I've been tracking mileage on a paper log, and the vehicle is really only receiving approximately 19 mpg. I looked to it to see what it could be, and after looking up active recalls, realized that it was symptoms of the fuel pump malfunctioning. I took it to scott clark Toyota; a manufacturer's dealer, and they refuse to remedy the situation.

Today I noticed during my car parked at start up there was a ticking sound towards the front end of the engine. After maybe about a min or two it quieted down a lil but it is still noticeable when your standing in front of car. I can't seem to figure out if there is a problem with the fuel pump or if the transmission is slipping as to my previous comment on acceleration delay from a stop.

My Toyota Camry 2018 se have a delayed acceleration. I . E when you go on a highway and press the gas pedal it will increase the rpm but not the car speed and seems like car is not in d but on n. Lot of people complaining about this issue with 2018 and above models. Toyota needs to look into this matter.

Often during acceleration, my car seems to sputter or misfire. When taking off there seems to be, as the only way I can describe it, an air bubble in the fuel line. Kinda like fuel isn't constantly being fed to the engine. There are gaps. While driving at a constant speed, this does not happen. Also, sometimes when accelerating from a stopped position, my car accelerates slowly and then all of a sudden, takes off as if its playing catch up. Although there isn't an active recall on my car, I think there is a problem with the fuel pump.

Tl-the contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. While driving the vehicle was shaking and the accelerated pedal was applied but vehicle failed to move. There was an abnormal rattling noise detected. Additionally, the blind spot sensor became inoperable to work. The vehicle was taken to jim ellis Hyundai atlanta 5785 peachtree blvd, atlanta, GA 30341 (770) 454-6789 but , was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted who referred contact to a local Toyota dealer. The failure mileage was 28,500. Ap.

Today Aug 31 2019, I test drove the above vehicle. 2 things I noticed during driving. 1). At start up there was a very audible ticking sound at the front end of the engine. It was much more audible when the hood was raised, and it stopped after approximately 30 seconds with only a familiar ticking sound of the 4 cylnder engine once it stopped 2). Most important - during acceleration from a stop, the vehicle seemed to bogg down, and feel like the fuel was not feeding properly, or the transmission was slipping. Once the vehicle reached 15 mph or so, it seemed to drive normal. I did not have a chance to drive on the freeway, only city streets. The acceleration should be of major concern.

Vehicle is shuttering at stop signs and has a major lag in acceleration which has lead to some close calls merging onto the freeway and pulling into traffic.

The radar sensor continuously malfunctions and turns itself off. Initially thought by the dealer to be due to rain, even during sunny conditions it malfunctions. The car has to be turned off and turned back on to get radar speed control to work again. I have taken you dealer and they said this is normal and has no fix. This shouldn't be occurring unless their is a direct blockage of radar signal on the sensor.

In motion: today 7/28/2019 while pulling out in traffic the car would not accelerate and I looked down in the gear shift drive and neutral was lit and the netrula was flashing. Next, the check engine light appeared, and the dash start flashing star inflation malfunction and see a dealer immediately. I just purchased . My granddaughter was in the car this was very dangerous and scary.

The car applied the brakes very hard while traveling down a major thoroughfare with no objects or other vehicles nearby. I was running around 50mph and the collision avoidance activated and the car slowed to nearly 20mph.

I have had constant problems with my 2018 Camry since purchasing may 2018. My car is always jerking as I accelerate and when I'm driving in town, feels like I'm getting rear-ended and hesitating on highway when I have to accelerate into traiffic which is very dangerous when the car won't get up and go. I have had it to the dealer several times. They reset the computer because it can save settings from previous drivers. That didn't help. They told me that it's a different transmission and it takes few seconds for the computer to communicate back to transmission. This is a very unsafe feature. The car is super loud and rough feeling with the tires. I feel like I'm driving an old vehicle from the 80's. The entune app has constant issues of not loading or recognizing my phone. Tire pressure light comes on all the time and pressure tests fine at dealer. Maintenance light comes on every 5000 miles for tire check and oil only needs changed 10000. Maintenance light should be separate from oil change so you know which one needs done.

Car is often jumpy after accelerating from a complete stop or accelerating after slowing down. I will push the gas pedal down, and there will be a slight delay before the car selects the proper gear, often resulting in the car lurching forward. This only happens in town, not on the highway, and seems to happen more often after turning. And it doesn't happen all the time, but enough for me to take notice after having the car for a month.

Takata recall: when accelerating and deaccelerating the vehicle I noticed the transmission shifts really rough and makes the car jerky like it's going to stall out. Do not feel safe at all with my brand new car driving this way. I've had the car for 7 months and want to get rid of it as soon as possible for this rough ride experience!.

The crash detector system stop working for the first 15 minutes of driving it happen multiple times I was driving 40 mile per hour.

I have two problem with my new car: 1) I have a moldy odor coming from out ac system within a few months of purchasing the new car, and when I brought it to the dealer service center, I was notified that I could flush the ac system and install a charcoal cabin filter, but there is no permanent solution to fixing the odor coming from the car. 2) my car is experiencing acceleration problems when I'm trying to speed up to change lines on a freeway or merging onto a freeway and need to accelerate to get up to speed. When I press the gas, my engine revs but doesn't respond for 3-5 seconds. This becomes really dangerous as I cannot predict when it happens and it's usually occurs when I'm speeding up to merge or change lanes.

Tl the contact owned a 2018 Toyota Camry. While driving various low speeds in a 30-car garage facility, the vehicle independently accelerated without warning while pulling into a parking spot. The vehicle crashed into a wall and bounced back approximately 30 feet, striking a nearby parking column. The contact stated that the automatic abs became inoperative during the failure. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a salvage lot where it was deemed destroyed by the insurance company. The contact suffered severe bruising and bleeding from the driver's seat belt across the left side of the chest. Medical attention was required. The manufacturer was made aware of the crash and sent an engineer on November 14, 2018 to remove the computer system from the vehicle for further analysis. In addition, the contact was provided with case number: 810130693. The failure mileage was 5,600.

I purchased this car 08/2018 we are now in 10/2018 I have 3k miles on it and it rides rough, sounds like an old car, loud rattly, it just keeps getting worst taking the car today to Toyota bennett in allentown PA today because when making complete stops at a light it jumps forward, the transmission jerks, transmission seems confused it takes a long time to pick up for example when entering a highway and trying to catch up to speed takes long, at a stop light almost got rear ended a few times cause the car just wont move quick enough.

The 2018 Toyota Camry se has a major issue with delayed acceleration that impacts the safety of the vehicle. The car's 8-speed transmission has trouble selecting the proper gear when the driver needs to accelerate after deceleration. For example, imagine driving steady at 40mph before decelerating to an intersection for a turn, making the turn, then pressing the gas again to accelerate. When pressing the gas again to accelerate in this scenario, the car struggles to select the proper gear after the downshift from 40 mph causing the vehicle to pause (no acceleration) for 3 seconds before very roughly cycling through two or three gears before the proper gear is selected. Both my wife and I experience this while driving the car and often feel vulnerable and stuck as traffic must brake unexpectedly because the Camry will not simply select a gear and move when the gas is pressed. Also, when the Camry finally does move, there is no predicting how much acceleration the driver will experience. This causes safety concern for both getting rear-ended while the Camry won't accelerate, and also safety concern for rear-ending someone else when the Camry unpredictably accelerates. The Toyota dealer has done nothing to fix this and states it is working as designed because no error codes are thrown. The Toyota dealer did acknowledge that 8-speed transmissions are new to Toyota and they have had major issues with the 8-speed transmission in the Toyota sienna.

Tl the contact rented a 2018 Toyota Camry. While the vehicle was stopped, it accelerated independently and crashed. The front side air bag deployed; however, the frontal air bag failed to deploy. The contact sustained multiple injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing lot. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure and the vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was unknown.

For whatever reason, Toyota made the engine control software very slow to react to throttle inputs. If you are driving and stomp on the gas, there can be as much as a 1. 5 second delay before the engine tries to do something. This can be pretty dangerous such as when you are trying to merge into traffic or move so someone doesn't hit you. Never drove a car that had such a delay unless it had a turbo, but the Camry responds even slower (camry does not have a turbo). I;ve had the car for 7 months. . . It has always been like this and it seems to be a very comon complaint.

Engine is very loud, acceleration fine one minute and the next minute I try to accelerate it doesn't even want to go anywhere I consider this a very serious issue being that I try to accelerate out into traffic. And it wants to stall and loses acceleration for 1 or 2 seconds. Which is very dangerous being that I'm stuck there and oncoming traffic for that. Of time and then I have to step on it way way more than what I should have to get out of harm's way. These incidents take place on the city streets not the highway. Only in the beginning of accelerating.

Sometimes when accelerating from a stop, the engine seems to have a slight hesitation. This is very concerning because you could inadvertently pull out in front of another driver and cause an accident because the car wouldn't accelerate properly. This needs to be investigated before it harms someone.
