1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

The dashboard pad has deteriorated within the last two years. It is gooey. When I have brought the vehicle in for service at the local dealership and mentioned it, it was not addressed. I called Toyota headquarters twice and they said that there was a notification but it has expired. So, they will not honor a request to replace the pad. I never received the notifications they allege they sent. The pad is really dangerous since it reflects off the windshield and is blinding when driving on the highway or city streets. The part itself costs over $1,000; I do not know what labor and tax costs are. I am the original owner of this car and have maintained it through tofficial oyota service.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2018

Dashboard melts in the sun creating a sticky shiny surface that reflects onto the windshield and inhibits visibility. I cannot see out of the car during the day anymore due to the reflection.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2018

Dashboard shiny and sticky causing reflection from sun to impair vision. Toyota says recall issued prior to experiencing problem "expired" January 2018 and is no longer applicable for previous recall we received when issued. Toyota wants $2700 for the dashboard not including labor.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2017

Sticky dashboard.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

Sticky and shiny dashboard. The reflection of the shining dashboard is causing a lot of trouble while driving. Cannot get a clear view of the road in the front when the dashboard is reflected on the windshield.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2017

Check vsc system error, traction control light, abs light and emergency "!" light illuminated when car was idle. Brakes became "soft". Next day, light was off until after driving a few miles, again same lights came on and brakes became soft again at a stop light.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2017

I have a foul odor from my a/c unit caused by mold/mildew. Toyota did a foam/vent treatment, but the problem is still there. They will not repair the issue.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2015

When I purchased the car in 2015. I was informed that a recall was going to take place on the dash board. This was due to the fact that sun was making a sticky glaze to form. This is hazardous because it often creates a blinding glare during the day while driving and even while parked.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

Interior head lining is coming down. It started on the back windshield. It was hanging down so I see it when I use my rear view mirror. Now it is coming off on the driver side front windshield. Also front driver visor. Also sticky dashboard.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

I was driving the vehicle and had the sun glare of the dashboard which has completely melted, I was unable to see the car in front of me which came to a complete stop. Given the glare of the dashboard which has melted completely due to intense sun from florida I was involved in a car accident since I cannot see car in front of me due to the large glare. My defect in the car is that the dashboard is melting and creating a very intense glare which is preventing me from being able to see and unfortunately was involved in a car accident.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

My dashboard has been melting for the last 2 month and now is a sticky and has an awful glare that is making driving very difficult for me. The dashboard is melting under the sun.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

All Toyotas with 2azfe engines and their variants need to be recalled. There is an inherent problem with excessive oil consumption due to a design flaw in both the pistons and rings of the engines. This problem then leads to problems with the emissions systems causing catalytic converter failure, a/f sensor failure and oxygen sensor failure. Toyota has known about the excessive oil consumption oil issue for years and has corrected its design. But, those who were unaware of this problem and never informed of it by Toyota are left in the dark. My issue is that the oil consumption now affects the emissions system. It is increasing more difficult to rapidly accelerate due to the fact that this oil consumption has now ruined my catalytic converter and thus making acceleration at the proper rate impossible. I went to accelerate and my car couldn't do it properly, nearly causing an accident. Then I noticed my mil was illuminated. I had it checked and its a p0420 code. I have had the car diagnostically examined and now the car cannot meet the minimum threshold for the car's ecm to conduct a self test, thus illuminating the mil. I have heard of others running out of oil and seizing their engines during operation of their vehicles. This is unsafe. Nhtsa and Toyota are both keenly aware of this issue, but nothing has been done to fix the vehicles that are already on the road. I went to my Toyota dealership where I purchased this vehicle new and the service representative said that Toyota will not fix these vehicles without the customer paying for the repair. The informal quote for the engine alone was $3500. 00 alone, not including the emissions issues. This is an absolute disgrace. I hope you do something about this.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

I purchased a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid with 85,000 miles in July 2nd of 2014. Since I got this car from dealer in a auction first I went closes Toyota service center to change the oil and do the 85000 mile service so I can keep the car protected. And they tall me perform the maintain on it but they is waning light for abs and another waning check vsc system they assume may be fault in computer system witch repair cost around $3000 and the advice me to return the cart dealer. I spend all my money in the buying the car so can¿t spend any more money. Then I contact the dealer but to return the car but they don¿t accept the car back. Since I didn¿t have any choice I start driving the car back to home. Suddenly nonstop buzzer sound came up along with the "check vsc system" /brake, hazard, warning, and abs lights its middle of the freeway and I noticed that the brakes did not function properly. I try to push the brake pedal; it was just like a rock not moving a bit I thought I gone die. Luckily I able bring it to safe place. Now car is sitting in my home don¿t know what to expect next. I research the problem in the internet, notice so many-many 07- 08 Toyota Camry Hybrid customers have the experience the same problem. Since many 07- 08 Toyota Camry Hybrid customers experience this problem so I hope Toyota recall the abs accumulator and fix before anybody get die or be critically injured. Thank you.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

The dashboard on my Toyota camry appears to be slowly melting leaving behind a sticky residue and a shine on 90% of the flat surface. The real hazard is that the shine on the dasboard reflects on the windshield making it very difficult to drive especially in daylight. The stickyness of-course is a nuisance. I have noticed that the stickyness is less in the morning but increases as the sun comes out. I have taken the car to the dealer but they refused to look at it since it is not a part that is broken. They suggested that I have the interior detailed which I don't want to do in the fear the surface on the dashboard will come off!.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2014

The dash is has become soft and shiny, others online have had similar issues "melting camry dash" or "sticky camry dash". The safety issue is that the dash is so shiny now (was not originally) it reflects light back onto the windshield making it difficult to see out.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

Unable to use brake with vsc problem.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

The dash has begun melting in the sun and has become sticky and at times it melts and runs downwards. Nothing will clean it and and everything sticks to it and withthe melting it has a shinny gloss that at times with the sun coming in has a terrible glare. I am afraid if this continues the air bag on the passenger side could deploy and cause an accident.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

My car was parked outdoors in the rain. The inside of the car windows were dripping with moisture. When I decided to go to for a drive, I reached behind my seat to the rear floor for my paper towel roll and cloth towels to wipe off the windows and they were soaked with water. I took the car to the dealer ship to fix the problem. The four sunroof drains had no hose clamps on them the right rear hose had come loose causing a flood in my rear seat area. I had to have all carpets replaced and hose clamps added to prevent any further damage. It cost $2467. 57 to repair the damage because Toyota did not require hose clamps on the 4 drain hoses from the sunroof. I asked Toyota if they were going to notify other Toyota owners of the potential problem and they indicated an answer of, no! I think they should be forced to let other Toyota owners of the potential problem. I have all of the communications with Toyota if you want copies. This is one of the reasons insurance rates are so high. My insurance paid for all except $60. 52 of the total cost of repairs. I have aaa insurance. Please respond!!!.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

The dashboard is completely sticky and ruined. Nothing cleans it or takes the stickiness away. It causes a reflection on the windshield and interferes with my vision. This is a safety issue that Toyota should recall and replace! it's very dangerous!.

Failure Date: 09/17/2012

The dashboard of this car became very soft and began melting in areas. It was reported to maroone Toyota service department and was advised to contact Toyota. They did not provide assistance. The problem continues to get worse and the dashboard is deteriorating.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

The dashboard gets extremely soft and sticky when the interior of the car gets hot (>90 degrees) and causes a bad glare on the windshield that makes it difficult to see when driving.

23 Equipment problem

The entire dashboard of the car is melting. It is very sticky and soft. It cannot be touched. It appears wet and slick and is making a glare appear when you look out of the front window.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2011

I have had to replace the tires approx every 20,000 miles. Type and make of tire do not seem to make a difference. I have rotated and aligned it every 5k miles. Tires get worn on the inside very quickly, no adjustment by the alignment shops seem to make any difference.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2011

The vehicle dashboard has been melting on hot days resulting in a shiny, mirror like surface that reflects sunlight and glares the windshield reducing visibility. The melted dashboard surface is very sticky and could affect the airbag functionality as the airbag cover could fuse with the surrounding melted dashboard surface. I also wonder if the dashboard is releasing any toxic substances as it melts.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

My car has the sticky dash issue that many Toyotas have. I first noticed a 'plastic / rubber' smell in the car a month after I bought it; however, the Toyota dealership said that it was the 'new car smell'. Later I was told it was an ongoing issue with my cabin inlet filter. Finally the dash started becoming soft and gooey. I later found out that my car was part of a recall and Toyota agreed to replace the dash - 9 years later. I have been breathing the toxic fumes from the melting dash for 9 years, 150k plus miles.
