1 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2019

The first time the "check vsc system" (attachment) came up was about the first week of Jan 2019 when I was driving on a city street. Since I was on the right hand land I was able to pull over to the side. After I turned off the engine and waited for 1 minute and turn the engine back on, the message "check vsc system" disappear from the dashboard. When I got home and searched for this error message many people says this could be due to a loose gas cap so I make sure it's tighten. Then about 2 weeks later on Jan 17, 2019, the same issue happens again. This time I was in a parking lot and when I pressed on the brake pedal, the buzzer will chime before I even start the engine. When I start the engine then the "check vsc system" comes on and it doesn't go away. I tried to turn the engine on and off multiple times and it doesn't resolve the issue like last time. I also noticed when I step on the brake pedal, it provides virtually no break. It would take me a very long distance to bring the car to a stop and I am afraid to drive more than 25 mph. I took it to a mechanic for diagnostics and two codes came up for abs pump and abs motor. He tried to use his tool to turn on the abs pump it doesn't work. Then we found out about the brake warranty(attachment) but I when I went to the a Toyota dealer, the dealer said the warranty had expired on 3/14/2018 since the first date of use was 3/14/2008. I believe since the secondary warranty was for 150k miles and my car has only 121k miles on it, it should be covered. If I had drive 20k per mile per year, this issue would have appeared two years ago which was within the warranty period.

2 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. When the brake pedal was applied, the vehicle failed to respond and a chime sound was heard. Also, the abs, vehicle stability control, and maintenance required warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then towed to peterson Toyota (9101 w fairview Ave, boise, id 83704, (208) 963-8218). The dealer checked with the manufacturer and they both stated that the vehicle was excluded from receiving an extended warranty campaign for the brake and the statute expired on March 28, 2018. The dealer stated that the brake actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

3 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. While driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of braking ability. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to swope Toyota (1085 n dixie hwy, elizabethtown, ky), but the failure could not be replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The VIN was not provided.

4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2016

Warning buzzer, brake, check engine, no cruise control, hard brake pedal to stop. I paid to the dealer to diagnostic, and the abs actuator assembly with labor is almost us$1,700. Only something the sound of the buzzer and the lights turn off, and brake perfect. But must of the time, permanent noise and lights are on. To use the car is dangerous and noise no good for passengers. The problem start with vehicle in motion, in the city.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Toyota camry. The contact stated while driving 40 mph all the vehicles warning indicators illuminated and they experienced a failure with the brakes not stopping the vehicle, a loss of power steering, the ac began to blow hot air. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer to be diagnoised. The contact reset all codes in the vehicle. The brake warning indicator illumintaed again however. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vehicle failure mileage was 130,000. Kh.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2015

The compliant is not the result of a direct issue, but upon visiting the dealer, was informed of a brake actuator replacement that needed to be done at over $1700 in parts alone - looking on the internet is appears as if Toyota had issued an extended warranty on this but I was never notified. Would have had it replaced earlier. Need some help and options.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2015

Vsc check engine error came on display along with check engine light, abs, parking brake, traction control, and something else. I was coming off the highway and exiting the off-ramp when the car binged, all the lights came on, the check vsc came on and the brakes hiccuped. I was already pulling off the highway, so I turned onto a side street. Parked, and then restarted the car. The error came on again, but then went out.

8 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

Check vsc system displayed and abs, traction control, emergency brake and caution lights are on and the brakes are very slow to respond.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

While driving in city traffic, a number of indicator lights within the the dashboard instrument cluster illuminated including the "brake" indicator, the yellow brake system warning indicator, the abs indicator, and one other (master warning light?) . At the same time a message displayed in the status screen within the instrument cluster showed "check vsc system. " I immediately tried to pull off the road and slow down, and had to apply significantly more pressure to the brake pedal then typical. I could not slow as quickly as I expected. To avoid running into the car in front of me I pressed extremely hard on the brake pedal and was finally able to stop. I parked the car and turned it off, then restarted it. The same indicator lights and message displayed. I was able to drive the car home very slowly, but continued to experience difficulty braking during that drive home. Later that day when I restarted the car, the indicator lights and warning message did not display, and the brakes operated normally. I will contact the local dealership this week.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

2008 Camry Hybrid stopped at a gas station with car was in park. No one in car, car came out of park, rolled out of station, across first 2 lanes, then median, then 2 additional lanes and ended up in a tree in/near a school yard/property. Toyota had engineer review in early sept. Toyota wrote letter in January that they refuse to further evaluate or be responsible for collision. An insurance agent at my carrier had exactly the same issue but her damage was below her deductible and she just had it repaired without telling Toyota.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2014

Applied brakes in a panic stop on I-95, pedal dropped and check vsc light came on. Pedal was hard to manage for several miles after 1st incident. Pedal feel would rise and drop feeling like the car would not stop. When arriving home and pulling in the driveway brake pedal would drop and car felt like it was not going to stop going into the garage. Once inside garage I could hear what sounded like a pump constantly running. This is the first time I have heard this noise for this long since I bought the car. Whenever I approach the car with the key or open a door, this noise is heard for about 20 seconds, sometimes repeatedly. The car is currently unsafe to drive and parked in our garage! not sure what to do. . .

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

While leaving work noticed that brakes were not working properly and it was very hard to stop. I had to leave a lot of room in order to come to a full stop. There were several warning lights on including "check vsc system". Took the car to the dealer and was told that the brake actuator needed to be replaced. Cost of the part and repair was $3400.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2014

I have really good driving record with no accident & not even 1 ticket in the past 20 years before these 2 accidents & we've had the car for 6. 5 years. 1st accident happened on 4/11/14 at 9:14am. Traffic was bad during the morning rush hour so all cars were travelling slowly. I was on fwy 5 heading s to the fwy 55 s ramp in CA. Matrix (1st car) suddenly stopped while all other cars were still moving forward. Equinox (2nd car) stopped & I immediately slammed my foot on the brake pedal. However, I didnât feel the car stopping at all & I thought I heard the engine roaring, but then thought it was only my illusion. Since the damage was only bumpers & headlights we just let insurance handled it & moved on with our life. However, I did start driving extra carefully after this incident. 2nd accident happened on 6/23/14 at 8:40am. Again, traffic was bad during morning rush hour. I was on jamboree in irvine, CA heading towards newport beach. I was waiting for the red light on jamboree at the 405 n bound exit intersection in the 2nd lane from left (total 4 lanes). There were already 2 accidents around there & light had just turned green. All cars were moving very slowly due to accidents nearby. Yukon had already pulled into the intersection & suddenly stopped. I was still behind the line with some distance & slammed on brake immediately but didn't feel the car stopping until hitting yukon. I heard brake sound and engine roaring again while my foot was on the brake pedal. This time the roaring sound was clear compare to April accident. It was at over-path of fwy 405 so the road was a bit going uphill. Hybrid does not start fast at all so I am sure my speed was very slow. Car is determined as totaled because engine went under yukon's spare tire hanging in the back. Toyota said hybrid has a black box that records data. Want to get access to the encrypted data if possible.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

While driving, the "check vsc system" warning came on, an immediate power reduction occurred and some brake pressure loss. Dealership said the skid control ecu ($1800) and abs actuator ($2900) were both bad. After replacing both, warning lights are still on. Problem not resolved yet.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2014

I was driving on the 405 freeway north from long beach to west los angeles, when the vsc system lights came on. I took the car to santa monica Toyota, where I had originally purchased it, and was told that the brake actuator system was leaking and the repair cost was $3800, no one there informed me that this particular part was being investigated for possible defects. After the car was looked at at santa monica Toyota, the brakes started clucking and grabbing. After much heated discussion, corporate Toyota agreed to pay $1000 toward the repair which was done at marina del rey Toyota. I believe that the system is defective. No system should fail in so many cars of the same model and year. Toyota should recall the system and compensate myself and other Toyota owners.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

Brake actuator had gone out, this controlled the entire braking system. No accident was caused but the car is inoperable and a new actuator is quoted at $2600.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2014

About to leave from a parking lot at night, turned vehicle on. Released emergency brake. Put car in reverse to back out. While backing out, noticed car not operating correctly. Stopped backing out and reparked. Noticed engine dash lights were on:"check vsc system", abs, emergency parking light nonresponsive, triangular warning light and check engine light. Looked into manual to read and said to take car in. Drove car around parking lot to see how car handled. Car braked but pumped on own after brake tapped each time. Braking ability and flexibility compromised. Being serviced now.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

I was driving down the highway when I felt a noticeable difference in the steering and breaking of my car. At the same time a lot of the dashboard lights came on including: brake, abs, vsc warning, check engine, tpms. After I felt this change, it was very hard to brake. It took me longer to stop and I had to use more physical force to do so. This was extremely scary considering how fast I was going and the fact that I had my child in the car with me. I took my car straight to a mechanic who cleared the code.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2013

I applied brakes, all the warning lights came on and the car would not brake. I pressed the brake pedal as hard as I could an finally came to a stop. I got the car to walnut creek Toyota, California. They charged $150 and said there was nothing wrong. . . Bring it in if it happens again (they failed to notify me that there were several other instances reported). . 5-12-14. Same thing happened as I came down a freeway offramp. It took all my strength to stop the car just inches from another car. Walnut creek Toyota said nothing wrong and their regional Toyota technical team said the same. . . Neither of them mentioned the numerous complains to the NHTSA. I could have been killed, or killed another driver. These cars should have been recalled and compensation to the owners. . . I wasn't going to drive , I was forced into "trading" it in for a not so great deal!!.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vsc warning light illuminated continuously as the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard when engaged. The failure caused an increase in stopping distance when the contact was applying the brakes. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer however, they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000. Updated 04/22/lj.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

"check vsc system" notice came on my dash. Vsc (vehicle stability/skid control). I have taken my car into the dealership approximately every 3 months and nothing has ever been detected in terms of this. The area where I live does get heavy snow so this is extremely dangerous to have happen.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2013

Dash board lit up like a christmas tree the brake, hazard warning, stability control and I think its a tire pressure light came on traveling at 55 mile an hour coming down a 20 degree incline off of the astoria bridge traveling north, from what I have read this is something that is happening quite frequently. My brakes seam to work fine I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow I under stand this is a $3000. 00 fix I did buy extra warranty when I bought the car now to see if its good. Its been a very good car up to this point.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2013

As I was driving my car to work that day, I suddenly felt that the brakes lost power -- I had to press them much harder to slow the car down even by a small amount. Many lights on the dashboard went on, including something like "check vsc" on the dashboard display. I felt that the danger of getting into an accident was very high, particularly given that I was driving on a freeway. Driving very slowly, I managed to safely get to work. When I got into the car a few hours later, the situation did not repeat itself and it drove normally. Still shaken, I brought the car over to a Toyota dealership, where they told me that my abs actuator has gone bad. The best "discount" price I was able to find was $2,500. I researched online and realized that this problem is common. I called Toyota corporate customer service to complain and request reimbursement, but they refused. Since I had no choice but to address this safety issue, I fixed the car at a local Toyota dealership. However, since this is major safety problem, which is apparently quite widespread, I firmly believe that Toyota must recall and replace the problematic part, and compensate the owners who had to do it on their own.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

Original actuator had been replaced. Now, having more braking problems than before! dealership reset twice, problem is returning and dealership refuses to replace again, or reset. Brakes will grab and/or make loud 'clunking' sounds. Intermitant.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

Have a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. 6 months ago I brought it in to right Toyota for service due to an issue with my brakes. After $6200, $2587 of with was for a 'brake accuator' the car was 'fixed'. Two weeks ago my brakes acted up again with the same issue. The brakes catch or grab without warning, and sometimes I have to press the pedal to the floor boards to stop the car. I have almost had 2 incidents where an accident could have occurred. I feel unsafe in the vehicle an the dealer nor Toyota USA has responded to my complaints. Now the dealer is stated it is a different problem and not the accuator. My lite came on recently about the vsc needs to be checked.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

Was braking to a stop and it felt as if the brakes briefly disengaged causing the car to stop about 15 feet farther than expected, this has happened on several occasions in the last 6-8 months and is unpredictable.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2013

I was on the highway and all of the warning lights came on "check vsc system" was displayed on the dashboard. I had to push very hard on the breaks to make the car stop and luckily I did not crash into anyone. It's happened in the middle of driving in the neighborhood, on the freeway, even when I was parked in the garage! I turned the engine on and before I put it in drive or reverse, all the warning lights would display and the breaks would fail. Now the new problem is every time I step on the breaks, my car 'barks' or 'chirps' repeatedly at me. I can push lightly and get less of a bark but for the most part, it takes a great deal of effort to stop the vehicle. My father is a mechanic and he's hooked up the computer to the car but since the 'check vsc system" is not displayed when it's hooked up, he can't tell what the problem is. In an unrelated complaint, when the weather gets hot, around 80 degrees, the stereo system goes blank and spits out all of my cds and will not turn on. Then it will have lines across the screen and display "scan" on the upper right hand corner. It will not turn off or on unless I use the controls on the steering wheel. After it cools, it will work again.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

I was driving my car when without warning the brakes began to give out as I tried to stop my car. I am fortunate that there were no pedestrians or other vehicles in front of me or I might have hit one. A strange chugging noise emanated from my car and the lights went on, on my dashboard to check the vsc system. The Toyota dealership ran a diagnostic battery and said the abs accommodator was faulty and needed to be replaced. A quick search online showed me that many other individuals with Camry Hybrids are having this same issue with cars with low mileage. I feel fortunate that no one got hurt. I contacted Toyota headquarters and let them know of the issue.

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2013

I was driving down the road at 40mph and was coming upon a red stoplight. I started to brake and nothing happened. There were no brakes, I looked down and the message center said check vsc system. I was able to swerve into the turn lane to avoid hitting the cars that were stopped at the light and was able to coast to a stop. After leaving the car off for 5 minutes all was normal.

30 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2012

While driving in cold weather the check vsc system light comes on and the power brakes cease to function. I have to press the brake pedal very hard in order to get the car to stop. Toyota claims that this is caused by a faulty accumulator and gives the error code c1391. I created a website to see if other people have experienced this problem and to my surprise I have quite a few comments posted to my guestbook. . Read more...

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2011

The car's brakes do not brake smoothly at times. When the problem occurs at low speeds, the brakes vibrate causing uneven braking the is felt in a stop and go fashion. At high speeds, there's increased brake vibration making the whole car shake.

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2011

I have always noticed a delayed breaking feeling in my 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Also, when traveling at a higher rate of speed I notice the car shaking when just applying the breaks to even gradually slow down. This morning I rearended someone because of what I feel is the delayed breaking. Abs did not kick in and no airbag deployed. I was traveling under 25mph and was on a decline. I should not have had to apply the breaks as hard as I felt I was pressing but was so shocked when the car would not stop.

33 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2009

After my car had been parked outside in the cold (December in minneapolis) for the day, I noticed that, at very slow speeds (I. E. Crawling), the brakes on my car took longer than normal to bring the car to a halt. Despite moving very slowly, when I pressed hard on the brake, the car still continued moving for several feet before I felt the brakes engage. I was in a parking lot, so I tried doing this several times, each with the same result. I drove home on the highway and could not determine whether the problem persisted, but I have not noticed the same issue since.
