2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2014

I purchased a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid with 85,000 miles in July 2nd of 2014. Since I got this car from dealer in a auction first I went closes Toyota service center to change the oil and do the 85000 mile service so I can keep the car protected. And they tall me perform the maintain on it but they is waning light for abs and another waning check vsc system they assume may be fault in computer system witch repair cost around $3000 and the advice me to return the cart dealer. I spend all my money in the buying the car so can¿t spend any more money. Then I contact the dealer but to return the car but they don¿t accept the car back. Since I didn¿t have any choice I start driving the car back to home. Suddenly nonstop buzzer sound came up along with the "check vsc system" /brake, hazard, warning, and abs lights its middle of the freeway and I noticed that the brakes did not function properly. I try to push the brake pedal; it was just like a rock not moving a bit I thought I gone die. Luckily I able bring it to safe place. Now car is sitting in my home don¿t know what to expect next. I research the problem in the internet, notice so many-many 07- 08 Toyota Camry Hybrid customers have the experience the same problem. Since many 07- 08 Toyota Camry Hybrid customers experience this problem so I hope Toyota recall the abs accumulator and fix before anybody get die or be critically injured. Thank you.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2014

I have really good driving record with no accident & not even 1 ticket in the past 20 years before these 2 accidents & we've had the car for 6. 5 years. 1st accident happened on 4/11/14 at 9:14am. Traffic was bad during the morning rush hour so all cars were travelling slowly. I was on fwy 5 heading s to the fwy 55 s ramp in CA. Matrix (1st car) suddenly stopped while all other cars were still moving forward. Equinox (2nd car) stopped & I immediately slammed my foot on the brake pedal. However, I didnât feel the car stopping at all & I thought I heard the engine roaring, but then thought it was only my illusion. Since the damage was only bumpers & headlights we just let insurance handled it & moved on with our life. However, I did start driving extra carefully after this incident. 2nd accident happened on 6/23/14 at 8:40am. Again, traffic was bad during morning rush hour. I was on jamboree in irvine, CA heading towards newport beach. I was waiting for the red light on jamboree at the 405 n bound exit intersection in the 2nd lane from left (total 4 lanes). There were already 2 accidents around there & light had just turned green. All cars were moving very slowly due to accidents nearby. Yukon had already pulled into the intersection & suddenly stopped. I was still behind the line with some distance & slammed on brake immediately but didn't feel the car stopping until hitting yukon. I heard brake sound and engine roaring again while my foot was on the brake pedal. This time the roaring sound was clear compare to April accident. It was at over-path of fwy 405 so the road was a bit going uphill. Hybrid does not start fast at all so I am sure my speed was very slow. Car is determined as totaled because engine went under yukon's spare tire hanging in the back. Toyota said hybrid has a black box that records data. Want to get access to the encrypted data if possible.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2014

About to leave from a parking lot at night, turned vehicle on. Released emergency brake. Put car in reverse to back out. While backing out, noticed car not operating correctly. Stopped backing out and reparked. Noticed engine dash lights were on:"check vsc system", abs, emergency parking light nonresponsive, triangular warning light and check engine light. Looked into manual to read and said to take car in. Drove car around parking lot to see how car handled. Car braked but pumped on own after brake tapped each time. Braking ability and flexibility compromised. Being serviced now.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2014

My car was just repaired 6 months ago for this same issue at a cost of over $3,000!!!! today my husband and son were in the car when the brakes failed and the check vsc warning light came on again!! luckily they were not in an accident as a result of the failed brakes.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

I was driving down the highway when I felt a noticeable difference in the steering and breaking of my car. At the same time a lot of the dashboard lights came on including: brake, abs, vsc warning, check engine, tpms. After I felt this change, it was very hard to brake. It took me longer to stop and I had to use more physical force to do so. This was extremely scary considering how fast I was going and the fact that I had my child in the car with me. I took my car straight to a mechanic who cleared the code.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

While cruising about 35 mph the following panel lights came brakes, abs, error message- vsc (vehicle stability control). A whirring sound emanated from the engine compartment which intensified when I depressed brake pedal. The brakes weakly responded to pedal pressure. I was able to drive slowly to a parking lot where I had it towed to the dealership. I note that the brake reservoir was full and detected no leaking fluids. I had no warning of this failure. The car has been serviced regularly by the dealership.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated forward causing the vehicle to crash into the wall in his garage. The vehicle did not stall. The failure occurred twice within one week. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised to take vehicle to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2013

Brake warning light came on, then warning to check vsc system, 2 other warning lights and abs light came on, braking became difficult with resistance when applying brake, pulsing and lurching forward when foot on brake stopped at stoplight. This is happening intermittently.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

I was driving to work on the highway when all of the sudden my car started to slow down, I pushed on the accelerator and got nothing, the dash board lights came on and the car completely stalled. The computer screen said to "check hybrid system and check vsc system". I sat for awhile and tried to restart the car, it did start but it would move, and then it displayed on the computer, " put car in p" and again the message read check hybrid system and vsc system. The tow truck driver got into my vehicle to put it on the roll back and he noticed that the computer was saying the same thing to him, so I know I wasn't going crazy. The car was then towed to the dealership where I purchased it and they call me to tell me that the car is running fine and that there is no problem!!! I am furious, I bought this car because of Toyota's reputation, reliability and safety. I do not feel safe in the car!!!.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact was sitting at a stop with the brakes depressed. My car accelerated for about 2 seconds. I have a Camry Hybrid which was not recalled but fixed anyway.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

The contact leased a 2008 Toyota camry on January 5, 2008. The vehicle would lunge forward while the gear shift selector was in the reverse position. The manufacturer stated that there would be a recall and they could not fix the vehicle until April 2010 when the recall parts were available. She was concerned with her safety in driving the vehicle until then. The failure and current mileages were under 33,000. Updated 01/1410 updated 01/20/10.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2008

On sept 25, 2007 we purchased for my wife a new 2008 Camry Hybrid at longo Toyota, el monte, CA. She experienced several problems (dead starter battery from headlights staying on or coming on after parking, car not decelerating when foot taken off accelerator, odd things with auto door locks) the first month, and when we called the dealer they talked us into attending a new owners meeting, so we could become more familiar with the car. When we brought these things up during the meeting, most of it was excused as being unfamiliar with the car features, although they took the camry and after 15 minutes told us nothing was wrong with the headlights. A supposed Toyota headquarters rep stated to me, "the little woman isn't that techo, is she"? a month later she was stopped going to work in the early morning by chp, for driving without headlights being on, but was not ticketed because the officer witnessed the headlight switch was on. (we still notice the headlight doing odd things, and the switch is in the on position, not the auti position). Back to the dealer, no problem found. Early November 2009 we received from Toyota motor sales USA a "potential floor mat interference with accelerator pedal safety recall campaign (interm notice)" which stated "we will notify you again as soon as a campaign remedy is available for your vehicle". We have heard nothing since that time, except for a sealed oversized business envelope last week, which was not about a fix to the vehicle problems, but sales materials on the new 5th generation 4runner. Toyota is still not owning up to all the defects in the Camry Hybrid.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

Approximate incident date is entirely inaccurate. I do not remember when this happened, but probably more than a year ago either in a 2006 camry or a 2008 Camry Hybrid. I believe this to be related to NHTSA campaign id 09v388000. I am concerned because "Toyota has determined that this defect does not exist in vehicles in which the driver side floor mat is compatible with the vehicle and is properly secured" and believe that my complaint should be investigated concurrently with this one. 1. My compatible and properly secured carpeted driver's side floor mat slipped off the retaining hooks (clips) and bunched up under the pedals. There are only two hooks, which are removable, and they spin around and around, allowing the mat to slip off. I believe that a simple fix of installing permanent hooks that do not spin, or four hooks, would solve this potentially fatal issue. 2. As I was driving, I found myself unable to depress the brake pedal. I discovered that my floor mat had lodged under the brake pedal, making it so that could not press it down. Fortunately I was able to dislodge the mat and avoid a collision. This incident only happened once, but the mats do come off the hooks frequently, therefore I must constantly make sure that my mat is secure and that the hooks are facing the correct way so the mat cannot slip off them. 3. The failure was not reported and no action has been taken.
