The contact owns a 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the rear doors unexpectedly opened when a pedestrian attempted to open the doors. The contact was unable to lock or unlock the rear doors with the key fob. The key fob was replaced. The contact also attempted to lock and unlock the vehicle using the mobile app; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a service center to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the rear door lock cables and actuators had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that due to the failure, the vehicle could not be locked or unlocked using the key fob. The contact stated that the same failure later reoccurred with the front driver's side door after the vehicle had been previously repaired. The contact expressed concern that the vehicle was unsafe because the doors could be opened by a pedestrian, creating a personal risk. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by telephone, and several cases were opened. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
