The car is owned by avis car rental. I happened to be driving this vehicle in the downtown chicago area with only 11,820 miles on it the airbag light turned on and the passenger active status light for the airbag just completely turned off not indicating if the passenger airbag was enabled or disabled. The driver was properly restrained prior to the incident and did not intentionally release the seatbelt. The disengagement occurred immediately before or during a single-vehicle crash. During the crash sequence, airbags deployed. However, it appeared that the vehicle continued to move forward under cruise control or sustained throttle input even after airbag deployment.
