The contact owns a 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal burning odor coming from the vehicle. Additionally, while driving at, or exceeding 65 mph, the engine made an abnormal crackling sound, and the vehicle shuddered. There was no warning light illuminated. On 01/23/26 and again on 02/02/26, I lost power while driving. Fortunately, on both times I was able to turn off the road with no injury or property damage to me or others. I don’t remember if there was a screen message as I was taken by such surprise. Both times, I was traveling about 35 - 40 mph. On 02/04/26 I took my car to my dealer, autonation Toyota, winter park, FL. I advised of these incidents and stated I was now afraid of my car. Later, I realized the service tech did not mention these specific issues. A complete diagnosis of my car did not reveal any problem. On 02/17/26, I received the bolt recall, which could cause power loss with no remedy available yet. I emailed autonation asking for a refund or replacement camry not affected by the recall. Per my request, they did provide my 2 incidents and my fear to the 02/04/26 invoice. I find it odd that the service tech did not mention these specific issues in the upcoming recall. It seems the dealers would be made aware prior to customers. I have taken a loaner car now pending repair being available.
The vehicle experienced a safety-related issue involving the hybrid system, which may cause sudden loss of power while driving. This issue is associated with a manufacturer recall (Toyota campaign 25tb15). Due to the risk of power loss, the vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive. The vehicle was taken to a dealership for repair, where the issue was confirmed. However, no repair has been completed. The vehicle has remained at the dealership for over 3 months without a confirmed repair timeline. This creates a significant safety concern, as loss of power while driving could increase the risk of a crash, especially at highway speeds. No accident, fire, or injury has occurred, as the vehicle has not been driven due to the safety risk.
The 2026 Toyota suddenly accelerated when pulling into a handicap space. Suddenly the vehicle jumped the concrete barrier and sidewalk and hit a building. The airbags did not deploy and the seat belts came off as normal. The building was not damaged but my wife sustained a shoulder injury and whiplash. The vechicle was towed from the scene and is at collison center where the collison occurred. Note: 2026 is when all electronic components were engineered into the vehicle. The vehicle has not been started since the accident. The outcome could have resulted in a life altering injury or death. The problem has not been reproduced as the vehicle is not driveable. The vehicle was purchased the 14 miles on it. As of today 1/16/2026, we are not aware of any vehicle inspection. Our insurance company told us they would not pay for the download of the black box but we could if we would like. We decided to hire a person to download the black box and give us the results of the download. This is to occur on January 20, 2026. There were no warning indicators prior to the sudden acceleration. No cautionary lights came on and continued application of the brakes did not slow the vehicle. No dash lights were on after the sudden acceleration.
