I purchased a Toyota camry 2026 on January 5th 2026. After a week of driving the vehicle. I noticed it was sliding around & having a hard time stopping on my way home from work. One night going up a hill. I had to stop at a red light. When it turned green I tried to proceed. The tires just spun out I couldn't go any further. I had to turn around & go a different way. It's was only cold out no snow on the ground yet. A couple days later in the burger king drive thru. I had my son in the car. I was going less than 10mph. The vehicle wouldn't stop at the speaker. I ended up sliding into the speaker. It scared my son & myself. I attempted to contact Toyota about the issue. They told me if I wanted more aggressive winter tires. Then I should buy some. It's not about wanting winter tires I told them. It's about my safety, the safety of my family & the safety of other drivers on the road. They claim the oem tires are all season tires. They are definitely not all season tires made for anyone that lives up north. I've never ever had an issue with a brand new vehicle driving in the winter with oem tires until this Toyota. They refused to address the issue. I've also contacted the tire manufacturer. Even though they never sold the tires to me living in connecticut in the winter. It was Toyota that decided these tires were ok to put on the vehicle & sell in any region of the USA. I had to purchase new england all season tires. Which cost quite a lot. I'd I had known I had to buy brand new tires for a 33,000$ vehicle. I either would have worked that into the cost of the vehicle. Or I wouldn't have purchased the vehicle. The salesman never told me the tires are a safety liability in connecticut during the winter. Which is when I purchased the vehicle. The oem tires that came with the camry cannot be driven in cold weather. I even offered to bring the car in to the dealership so they could put different tires on the vehicle that would be safe.
“hi, my name is [xxx] , my vehicle VIN [xxx] . I want to report a life-threatening situation that just occurred in our new 2026 Toyota camry which was purchased [xxx] this year. On ([xxx]) evening @ [xxx] while driving on [xxx] north towards cumming, the passenger side back tire suddenly dislodged itself from the rim and went flying across the highway. Because of this, I found myself in a state of immense panic, seeing the car tilt on one side, scraping away the smooth rim and ruining part of the back of the car and the undercarriage. Could have caused severe damage to my health and others on the highway, luckily truck driver blocked the lanes for me. We understand that manufacturing companies can have slight mishaps at times, but the severity of this issue could permanently compromise our safety. Although we hoped for almost no issues for the next few years, witnessing the quick detachment of the tire was the last thing we could ever expected. We also have teenager drivers at home, who rely on this car for simple transportation and our goal is to ensure they drive this car with confidence, but this incident has got rid of our peace of mind. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid has alignment problems since new. Had it aligned from Toyota 2 times and still wearing out the tires.
Lug nuts swelling making it impossible to remove with supplied lug wrench. All 20 lug nuts show evidence of separation of the steel nut and the decorative chrome cover covering the steel lug nut. Defect was found by tire dealer during purchase of new tires when the technician had difficulty removing lug nuts. According to the tire store manager this damage is caused by water getting between the steel nut and the decorative cap which causes rust to form. When the oxidation forms it puts pressure on the decorative cap causing it to expand. The normal 21mm wrench will not fit over the lug nut due to the expansion so the next size wrench is necessary which then damages the nut. The normal lug nut wrench supplied by the manufacturer for the car is therefore not able to be used to remove lug nuts. I have the damaged lug nuts if needed for examination.
Sometimes after starting the vehicle it won't move to drive or back up. This happens three to four times already since 2009 or after it is in a parking position and change direction the steering wheel lost control or direction this happen 2x already.
My driver rear tire started wobbling and I had a complete blow out within 3 seconds. I was driving at 65 mph on the highway. My car has approximately 7500 miles. The veered left and had to redirect it right to get off freeway.
Hankook tire sidewall split while driving - 30 mph, causing flat tire. Only 1836 miles. Hankook model 235/45r18 94v, dot 5mn9 1bh 5117. Unsafe and unreliable.
The left front lug nuts do not stay tightened. Each year, over the last 4 years, when changing tires from the summer tires to the winter snow tires, the left front lug nuts do not stay tightened. This first came to my attention when my wife was driving alone, in an isolated area, 200 miles from home, when the left front wheel almost came completely off before it was discovered as being a problem. The car was moving forward at the speed limit on a 2 lane road. This year, since November 15, I have retightened the lug nuts at least 6 times. I have tried lock tight. It does not work very well.
While driving on city streets I heard a "thunking" noise coming from the back tires. When I got out of the car and did a visual inspection all tires appeared to be properly inflated. I then got on the freeway and after driving about a mile in the slow lane at 65mph. I suddenly heard a loud explosive sound coming from the right rear tire and saw what appeared to be smoke coming from the back. I was able to safely pull onto the shoulder and call emergency road assistance. The tire had literally come completely apart from the wheel and parts were shredded into strips. Had I been in any lane other than the right-hand lane I could have lost control of the vehicle. My vehicle is a 2015 Camry Hybrid with only 16000 miles. This is the second tire incident I've had with the bridgestone firestone tires that came with the car, which I purchased new. The first instance was a flat tire that occurred when the car only had 5,000 miles. I have now replaced all four tires with michelins.

As I braked lightly to turn 90 degrees into my driveway at a low speed, the car suddenly accelerated and smashed on to the side of my front brick stoop. Then it sped down the driveway sightly leftward at break neck speed and crashed into my neighbor's brick house. Police came and then the ambulance, called by my neighbor whose house I hit. The car was totaled.
Feels like I am always traveling on a headwind with my steering always feels like it wants to wander somewhere else. It is tiring and dangerous because sometimes I feel like the car goes one way, while I want it to go another way. I have complained to the a few dealers about this issue to no resolve. I also have seen similar complaints on the web about this issue. Here is the link. . . Read more...

This was a multi car pileup on a road with 40mph speed limit which resulted from a vehicle ahead making an abrupt stop. This resulted in about 4 cars behind it having to come to stop resulting in a chain reaction. My car, 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid, could not come to a stop in time when full breaking was applied and ended up colliding with the car in front of me. Mine was the last vehicle in the pileup. This incident resulted in front end damage to my car and rear end damage to the car in front of me, and to two other cars in front of that car. My car could not come to a complete stop in time because I believe the breaks did not function properly. I wasn't aware of any break issues at that time and it was only about two years later I was informed by the dealer service department that there is a recall on this vehicle that involved break fluid reservoir assembly. I am reasonably certain that the accident on 3-8-2012 was the result of breaks not functioning properly and that my car could not stop in time to avoid a frontal collision while traveling at a relatively slow speed of 40mph.
