Nine problems related to air bag not deploy have been reported for the 1999 Toyota Corolla. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owned a 1999 Toyota Corolla. While the driver was parking the vehicle, the front passenger removed her seat belt and mistook the accelerator pedal for the brake pedal. As a result, the vehicle accelerated to 30 mph and crashed into a pole. The air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained a fractured sternum. The front passenger sustained seven facial bone fractures, a fractured nose, free air in her sinus cavity, basilar skull fractures, fractures to both patellas, blood clot in the left leg, pulmonary embolism, and a laceration to the lower lip. Medical attention was required for both the driver and the passenger. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The failure mileage was approximately 315,000.
Airbag did not deploy in front end crash with car going about 30 mph.
While driving 5 mph consumer's vehicle was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact, dual airbags did not deploy. Driver sustained upper body injuries.
While driving at 40 mph consumer was involved in a front end collision. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy. Also, no air bag warning light appeared prior to the crash. Driver wore a seat belt.
Was in a head on collison and driver/passenger air bags failed to deploy. When car was first purchased air bag light kept coming on. Took car to dealership and the service department said that nothing was wrong.
Was traveling 15-20mph and rear ended another vehicle. This caused hood latch to release hood, and it popped backwards towards windshield. Also, left headlight had popped out. Consumer states air bag did not deploy nad suffered minor injuries.
Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact, airbags did not deploy, resulting in minor injuries. Vehicle was totaled. Manufacturer has been notified.
While driving 10 mph and making a turn, the vehicle suddenly accelerated up 25-30 mph and hit a tree. Upon frontal impact, driver's and passenger's airbags did not deploy which did not protect the occupant. Was traveling 30mph, road was wet. Applied brakes to stop. Vehicle went into a skid. Rearended another vehicle. Upon impact, the air bags failed to deploy. Driver suffered a cracked sternum. Passenger received bruises from seat belt. Driver was hospitalized.
