1 Car Will Not Start problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2009

This is in regards to my 2005 Toyota Corolla. The computer (brain) to the car went out. Just one day I was driving and I came to a red light. When I stopped, the car just completely turned itself off. I tried to restart the car and it would not restart. It had the sounds of a dead battery trying to start but it wouldn't turn over. So I was stuck at the light until a tow truck came to get me. Upon taking it to a repair shop, I found out that the computer had gone out. I was then told that they had a notice out to all mechanics so if a car came into there shop, they would know what the problem was. I then contacted Toyota who told me that I was 8,000 miles over the warranty that they had set to replace this defect. I tried numerous times to get them to replace it and they flat out denied me. I know my car wasn't the only one with this problem. When I told them that I felt it was a safety issue, they just told me there wasn't anything they could do for me. My reasoning for it being a safety issue has to do with the fact that when that part goes out, the car will just turn off and you are stuck. I was lucky enough to be at a light. What if I was on the freeway? I would of been struck from behind from the other cars that were behind me going 65mph. After arguing with Toyota and getting nowhere, I ended up paying over $700. 00 to have the part replaced so I could once again use my car to get to work. I feel that Toyota should of been responsible for this, since they knew they had a problem with them and they should of been willing to replace the part no matter how many miles were on the vehicle.

2 Car Will Not Start problem

- the contact stated that while driving the 2005 Toyota Corolla with 19000 failure mileage at 25 mph and attempting to make a right turn into a parking space the steering wheel locked and the vehicle started to slow down. The vehicle shook, and then it completely shut off. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle 3 times, but he vehicle did not start. On the fourth attempt the vehicle started and was driven into a parking space. Toyota towed the vehicle to the dealer. Toyota determined that the emc was defective, and they offered to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired on December 17, 2006 and had not experienced the locking of the steering wheel since. The current mileage was 19700.
