2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2020

Driving on the freeway, my car engine shut-off and breaks locked. Car will not start on the move so I have to bring it to a stop. The process of transitioning lanes without breaks was very scary. After the car was brought to a full stop the car was able to start.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2020

My mother’s car suddenly went out of control in the parking lot of the local power company. The car was out of control like a wild horse and crashed several cars. This is not a driver error. The car mileage reading is ~40,000. I found that there are recalls on the Toyota cars (with problems such as cars went of control and accelerated uncontrollably), but not this particular car/VIN #. (the car’s airbag was on the recall list, but when we stopped at the local Toyota dealership’s service department, the assistant manager always tell us that they are busy, come back next time. It happened more than 3 times. ) after contacting Toyota corporate, Toyota sent out a third party to do an inspection on the car. The 3rd party inspector downloaded a whole bunch data. Based on the 3rd party’s findings, Toyota corporate states that no evidence that the incident was the result of the defect in [this] vehicle. My mother maintains the car accordingly to the instructions of the local Toyota dealership’s service department. One strange thing was that the 3rd party inspector told Toyota corporation that there were a lot fire ants presented in the car at the time of his inspection. This seems impossible. My family members and the tow truck driver did not find any fire ants before and after the 3rd party’s inspection. The vehicle’s parked at the local Toyota dealership’s parking lot at the time of inspection. There must be a problem with car when it went out of control. Please advise, thanks!.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

I own a 2006 Toyota Corolla that was involved in the ecm recall campaign, in 2011 I took my Toyota to my local dealer (bayside Toyota) and they inspected the ecm unit and deemed it ok, not in the recall serial numbers. In 2018 my Toyota failed state emissions (no obd-2 port communication) and began stalling and difficult starting. I removed the ecm unit and discovered that the serial numbers are within the 2011 recall parameters. I brought the Toyota back to my local dealer, they inspected the ecm and agree that it was within the recall serial numbers. My Toyota has been at the local dealership (bayside) since Thursday, January 8 2019. The dealer has indicated that Toyota corp. Has not approved the ecm replacement. I have done everything on my end to get this repaired under the initial recall program without any luck. What can I do to ensure my Toyota is safe to drive at the dealers cost? earl s. We had our car serviced just prior to hitting 300,000 miles on the odometer. After a week or so we observed that the odometer had now stuck on 299,999 and failed to move forward afterwards. 11-16-18 called and talked to ricardo at there nationwide customer service number. They stated to contact our local customer relations mgr in ventura, CA. I placed a call and relayed my problem to patricia (xxxxx). She put me in touch with richard in their office who ctc the regional parts mgr to see if they were covering parts with this problem I heard back today they were not. Mentioned if you googled this problem there were numerous reports in the past including one by nbc los angeles October 1, 2014. I mentioned this as well, but they stated they were aware of the problem but aren't covering because they are out of warranty. I asked how you expect to hit 300,000 miles within the warranty period, but it's obviously a defect. The cost thru Toyota is $700+. I just feel I'm not the only one who just gets told it's not covered and is left hanging; either, pay the amount of money of forever have you service timings out of whack. Please look into this and tell me what can be done next. 8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2017

Pulled into parking space with brake on and the car accelerated pushing me over a large rock which punctured transmission pan. Had to be towed home. If there were people in front of me they would be dead.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2017

Odometer stopped at 299,999 miles. Will not turn over any additional mileage.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2016

Takata recall- the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the airbag recall. At the time the airbag light was on constantly while the car was being driven. I advised the dealer/repair that the airbag light was on and that we had received notice of the recall. The airbag was repaired/replaced. Several days later the airbag light came back on and stayed on, therefore I contacted the dealer. They advised me to bring the car back to the dealer. We have now taken it back to the same dealer and now they say it cost $110 for the assessment and $550 for the spiral cable. I feel that this issue should have been included in the airbag recall and repaired at the time the recalled part was repaired. When I called Toyota customer service today to ask about the recalled air bag they made me feel as if we were in the wrong because we did not take it back immediately and that these were two separate issues. We took the car back at our earliest convenience and were shocked at the cost of repairs and that it is not covered by the recall and was not corrected when the recall repair was performed. In addition, other vehicles have recalled this part such as Dodge, Volkswagen, Hyundai, kia, and just this year Jeep issued a recall on the same part. I have included these document in this complaint. I feel that this part should be looked at to ensure the safety of all those driving a Toyota.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2016

I was in a car accident it was on hesperian and turner in haywargot, I was stopped got rear ended pushed into another car, this car is totaled. None of the airbags went off.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2016

I was in a car accident on hesperian and turner in hayward. I was complety stopped and rear ended pushed into the car in front of me, none of the airbags went off. The car is totaled. Toyota took way too long to fix the passenger airbag I just got the letter they had the parts in my area.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2015

Odometer stopped at 299,999 miles, it turned off on its own at the stop light, started again without problems, parked the car in the garage since then. Not checked by mechanic yet.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

The odometer stop keeping miles once it hit 299,999 miles.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2014

I was coming up on a curve on an icy road when my back end spun out and I fish tailed and lost control of my car. I ended up in a ditch first head on at full speed, I believe to be around 40 mph and my air bags did no deploy, when I opened my eyes again I was facing the road. I do not know how my car got spun around to face the road, and I do not know why my airbags did not go off. This is not the first accident this car has been involved in, and the last one my airbags did not deploy either and my whole front end was a mess.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2014

I noticed that my steering wheel was very difficult to turn so that "12" would go farther right than "2" or left than "10". I found that even within that "10" to "2" range, the car was not following my steering fast enough to make turns and curves as quickly as it usually does. I had to slow down sharply to stay on the road. Ten minutes later, I had to come to a complete stop in the road in order to direct the wheels into my driveway. During all of this, it seemed that both acceleration and brakes were less responsive than usual. Preceding the entire event, the engine had made some clacking/clanging/banging noises and the heat began to blow only cold air.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

I was driving my car home from work. Suddenly the car won't move forward and on the dashboard all the lights keeps light up and blinking and the car gradually died on the road. It's so dangerous. I see emc is listed recall but I don't receive any letter from dealer to fix its problem. Please let me know with VIN number above is on the list of recall. I have checked the alternator, it works ok and the battery is ok (just replace a few months ago). If it is recall, should I bring it to dealer to fix it even I didn't receive their letter.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

I was pulling into a parking spot at work (California state university east bay in hayward CA) at approximately 5 mph. I applied the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, but instead of stopping, it went over the curb, crossed the walkway, broke through and knocked over a large bush, rolled down an incline for 3-4 yards, and stopped when it struck a tree. I believe the incident appears similar to the current investigation under NHTSA action number dp14003.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2014

On the morning of August 27, 2014, my daughter was pulling into a parking space, with her foot on the brake. The 2006 Toyota Corolla suddenly accelerated, jumped the curb, and crashed into a stone support column in front of a doctor's office. If the stone support column had not been there to stop the car, the car would have crashed through the front of the doctor's office, possibly resulting in severe injury or even death to the occupants inside. The Corolla sustained significant front end and front side damage totaling $5761. 89. Also, both the driver side and front passenger side airbags failed to deploy.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

Took car to dealership regarding air bags, electrical, and engine feeling hot. Check engine light was on. . . . I did not have money for the diagnostic nor the maintenance they suggested. . Around $1500. I assumed they checked the airbags, but thought it odd that they did not give me any paperwork. They said everything was fine.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2014

Paint on my vehicle is chipping and clear coat coming off. I've seen many Corolla's the same model with the same problem.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

Toyota has issued a technical service bulletin indicating that the a/c condenser is not properly protected, causing premature failure of the condenser unit. The number for this report is ac002-06. My a/c condenser has failed due to the faults in this condenser unit. I spoke with Toyota at 1-800-331-4331, and they acknowledge that the part is faulty, but refuse to cover the replacement of this faulty unit as part of a recall. I'm concerned that, if Toyota acknowledges that this part is faulty, they refuse to reall and replace this part.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2011

I have Toyota Corolla 2006 le in which ac stop working as of 4/25/10. It was working last week.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2010

My son was driving, I was a passenger. He pulled into the emory, va post office parking lot and began to turn into a parking space. I was watching him closely as I was teaching him to drive. We were going very slowly when the car suddenly lurched forward and crashed into the side of the post office, severely damaging the bumper of the car. I can unequivocally state that he was beginning to apply the brakes when the incident happened. Yesterday I got a check for $20. 46 for what is said to be a settlement for acceleration problems with the Toyota. I was totally unaware of this issue until this check came. Why did Toyota not contact me. We were lucky that only the car was damaged, and not the passengers. The cost of the bumper repair was approximate $3500, plus I am sure an insurance rate increase.
