36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2010

Driving my 2007 Toyota Corolla on a 4 lane highway, I was in the left lane to turn and the car just shut down. Coasted into a parking lot, and tried to restart the car and it was fine. Arrived home in the driveway, my husband opened the hood and asked me to turn the car on, left it running and it shut down in about 3 minutes. This happened on several occasions. Called the nearest Toyota dealer and scheduled an appointment. Had the car towed and was told by the dealer that the computer needed to be replaced. This was under warranty.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2010

My 2007 Corolla le had 59. 5k miles when check engine light lit. While driving to work my check engine light came on. I stopped by autozone and they read the code it stated replace the ecu. I took the car to the dealer and they replaced the ecu. This is very disappointing since I previously owned a 1992 Toyota pesao and from 24k to 250k miles I never once had any issues with the engine or the electronics. Now this car is blowing up computers at 60k? last time I buy a Toyota!.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2010

While getting on the freeway my car lost almost all acceleration in heavy traffic. Pulled off the freeway turned off car, restated it and it sounded, felt normal. I drove 11 miles home. Next day: driving to Toyota 2miles away, engine light comes on, car shuts down at intersection in traffic, blocks from Toyota dealership. Car stalls 4 more times to dealership.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2010

I own a 2007 Toyota Corolla which I bought in November 2006. Since that time I have had nothing but problems out of my vehicle, from cosmetics, to vibrating steering wheel, air conditioning issues, leaking struts, alignment issues, and most recently the ecm. I was driving to the store, and right before I turned into a busy intersection my car shook, and then the engine shut off. All of the lights and service indicators came on, and then shut off leaving only the check engine light on. I tried to start my vehicle again, but nothing. My friend had to help me to push the vehicle into a nearby parking lot. There, I was able to start the car again, and so I headed home. Just as I got to my house, the car shut off again, and right before it shut off, it wouldn't even give gas. I had my car towed to a nearby shop, and after checking the entire car and doing a diagnostic, I was told it was the ecm and that it would cost 650 to repair (and that's for a used/rebuilt one). I called Toyota, and they said that it was covered under warranty up to 80,000 miles. I am just under 80,000 miles thank god. The guy I spoke with sounded as if he wasn't surprised of the issue. I am having my vehicle towed to Toyota today, and I guess will see how this all pans out. The bad part about it all is, what if they fix the problem and it happens again? and what other issues are there that they know about and their consumers don't. Plus, who is going to pay for peoples time off work for these repairs, and their inconveniences? at this point I am very disappointed in Toyota! I wanted to purchase the 2010 Toyota Corolla next, or the Lexus rx320, but I will definitely pass on that now!.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2010

Yesterday our 2007 Toyota Corolla(13,000) stopped dead in flow of traffic on a highway-luckily we merged to shoulder narrowly missing being hit by traffic. The car was fixed w/ a new computer system. Checking if others had this problem it turns out that diagnostic code p0607 has a very bad & significant history with 2007 Corolla-cars just die!!! but no recall. We almost died and similar situations have been reported.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2010

Car failed state inspection once (emissions) because car's computer would not communicate with the testing equipment. Dealer retested and got it to pass / work. Two weeks later, the car, which never had any engine light indications stopped in city driving. The engine light came on and 3 seconds later the engine stopped. Had to drift over to the side of the road and have car towed. Engine would restart but not stay on for more than 1 minute. Dealer replaced the car's computer module (ecu).

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2010

My 2007 Toyota Corolla sport just shut itself off without any warning while driving up a hill. It has done this several times since this first incident and my father-in-law who it a mechanic diagnosed the problem as a faulty ecm. According to him there are a lot of shops in our area that have had to replace them. The dealer even has the new updated part in stock, which means they know it is a problem. Do I have any recourse with all of Toyota's electrical problems?.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2010

While driving my 2007 Corolla I lost power to the engine on a busy intersection. Thankfully I was not hit by oncoming traffic. Got towed to a garage. Received the code p0607. Researched and found a TSB on this issue TSB eg042-07. My car is at 94000 miles and the TSB only covers up to 80,000. This is a known issue with 2006 and 2007 Toyota's. I called Toyota corporate and a ticket was generated for my case. The district manager said she would do nothing to replace this part. So much for helping a (former) reliable Toyota owner. A recall was never done. I now need to replace a computer for $900 on a 3 year old car. This is a major safety issue. I see many others have had this same issue. I see that the NHTSA has begun an investigation on this. I hope that Toyota does not get away with this!.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2010

I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla. Twice the check engine light came on for a period of 24 hours and then went off for a week. I took the car to the Toyota dealer and they replaced the computer. I am reporting this as I know there is serious concern about the computer electronic system in the Toyotas. I thought this piece of information might be helpful to you.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2010

Engine stalling - ecm failure on a 2007 Toyota Corolla. Dealer replaced the computer right away free of charge. Part # is 89661-02k22 the car was running 40mph when it stopped and it almost got hit by the car behind.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2010

Driving on 210 fwy. Going east, speed was approx. 70, when car stalled, aka died. The car turned off and slowed down, making us slam on hazards and brakes. This same problem has happened twice in the past week. We took it to crown Toyota and found out the ecu is bad. But they then proceed to tell us its only covered for up to 80,000 miles. They then proceed to tell us its a problem on some Corollas, but not all. So there is no recalls, so we would have to pay to fix the problem.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2009

Rust on all wheels getting worse after 2 yrs. Had to have the ecu reset system replaced at 16,912 miles.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2009

December 17, 2009 the ecm unit failed in our 2007 Toyota Corolla. Engine cut off. This is a known problem. There was an angel on my daughter's shoulder as she was on a low traffic city street when this happened and she was able to pull over safely. If this had happened on the freeway it could've been deadly.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2009

My 2007 Toyota Corolla totally died while I was driving in the middle of the street. I was told by the Toyota dealer the computer chip in the car was to be replaced. This is my new car and it is not supposed to do that. I am having ongoing problems with ever since I bought it.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2009

Total engine failure while driving, all dash warning lights came on and then total failure of all power. Car towed to dunning Toyota, ann arbor mi. Dealer replaced electric engine control computer. . . Covered under warranty.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2009

Car stalled on highway at ~55 mph, and successfully restarted once. Stalled out again on highway later that day and needed tow to dealership. Dealership noted engine stalling below 1000 rpm, and could not communicate with computer (ecm). Dealership replaced ecm (89661-02k21) for free under warranty, and Toyota corp. Reimbursed for towing.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2009

2007 Toyota Corolla ce, purchased in July 2007, approx. 15,000 miles. On 7/29/09, car stalled to a complete stop while driving. Luckily, I was not driving on the highway (I-95) as I normally do. Stalled on my block after I made turn into street. After a minute, was able to restart with minimal engine power to travel another 100 feet. Had to repeat this until I reached my driveway. Car was towed to dealership. They told me that this was a defect (wire for the computer dislodged or fell off and caused the problem). There was no indication that this was going to happen. No time to pull off to side of the road. Only "check engine" light appeared when trying to restart engine. This is a very dangerous situation and without some indication that this will happen, there could have been a serious accident resulting in injury or worse. Dealer replaced the part that day.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2009

My 2007 Toyota Corolla with approximately 68,000 miles is suddenly having harsh to violent transmission shifts after the check engine light came on. I had a shop identify or diagnose the check engine light code. They said it was code p2716. I conducted an internet investigation and discovered several people also experiencing identical issues. Also, the same investigation revealed Toyota was aware of the issue and released a technical service bulletin. To me, the problem is not an issue of wear and tear. Instead, it's clear there's a defect in a part of the car which can potentially lead to an accident.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

2007 Toyota Corolla. Consumer states that the vehicle's engine began to speed up by itself while driving. The consumer also stated the engine light illuminated. The consumer stated he was involved in a car accident while waiting at a light. When the light turned green, he removed his foot from the brake pedal when suddenly the vehicle accelerated and the consumer hit the vehicle in front of him, and then another vehicle rear ended him. The vehicle was taken to the repair shop to have the necessary repairs made and to see why the vehicle was accelerating on its own. A few months later, the engine light illuminated again. The dealer informed the consumer the ecu needed to be replaced. Also, the air bag light illuminated and there was a knocking noise coming from the engine.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2009

While operating this vehicle at approx 35mph, there was a sudden and complete loss of power. Engine continued to run smoothly but absolutely no acceleration or power. This caused the vehicle to slow to a stop at a very dangerous and busy intersection. I returned home at idle speed and placed the car in the garage. Check engine light was on. Days later I restarted the car and everything appeared ok and recovered. Check engine light eventually went out. Then it occurred again while making a right hand turn at another intersection. Very dangerous, very scary. The car was garaged and later towed to the dealership. The dealership conceded that the problem was the computer or ecm. There is a TSB concerning this and they are aware of this problem with Toyota Corollas. Fortunately, I still had 6k miles left on my warranty so this repair and the tow was covered by Toyota. I was told that had this been an out of warranty the repair would have been $1300 for an 18month old car! I believe this is a safety issue and Toyota should notify every owner of this vehicle for this possible problem. I also believe this defect should be repaired regardless of warranty limitations.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Corolla. While the contact was driving 25mph the contact attempted to accelerate and noticed that the vehicle would not travel higher than a speed of 25mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact had the ecu replaced. The current and failure mileages were 25000.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the power outlet was defective. When the power outlet was used, a burning odor would penetrate through the vents. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer replaced the power outlet fuse several times, but the failure was not corrected and the power outlet fuse continued to fail. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 50,000.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2008

While driving on the highway, the rpms dropped and there was a total loss of power. I had to coast to the side of the highway, the engine light came on. The car had approx. 19,500 miles on it. I had the car towed to the dealer and they replaced the computer module and the fuel pump. Four days later the car died again while driving and I had to have it towed a second time and the dealer replaced the fuel pump and gasket. The car has 26,000 miles on it now and has not repeated this incident. Needless to say, my perception of quality is negative.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the computer in the vehicle failed and had to be replaced. The computer is related to the gears and power windows. Whenever the gears are being shifted, the vehicle would shake severely. The contact had to get new brakes and rotors installed four times since the vehicle was purchased. In addition, the vehicle received numerous alignments because the steering wheel would shake when the brakes were applied. Two sensors also caused the engine to stop running. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer for repair numerous times, but the failures still persist. All of the failures began five months after the vehicle was purchased. The failure mileage was 4,000 and current mileage was 60,000.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2007

I would like to make a formal complaint about my 2007 Toyota Corolla. I purchased my car in January 2007. I'm having problems with my vehicle. The is a vibration I feel coming from the steering wheel. My car stopped on the li expressway due to 2 sensors that no longer worked. There is a shaking in my tires & every time I turn my car on there is a loud noise coming from the engine.
