4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2015

This happened about four weeks apart with two different drivers under similar conditions. We were slowing to stop at a stop sign traveling 5-10 mph and when we applied the brake, the engine reved up. When it happened to me the the car wouldn't stop when I applied the brake so I put the car into neutral and thus avoided hitting car ahead of me. I took the vehicle to my local Toyota dealer. They had it for a day and half and said they could find nothing wrong. They said I should remove my after market car mat ( which I have) and suggested that both drivers had applied the brake and accelorator at the same time. I think this is highly unlikely as my foot isn't wide enough to do both unless my foot is nearly off the brake. The car mat in question has been the car for 6 plus years and is a custom made one which does not slip.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

Letter from senator isakson on behalf of constituent re 2007 Toyota Corolla. The consumer experienced a severe and sudden lock up of the brakes. The consumer stated just a small touch of the brake pedal caused the brakes to lock up. The consumer noticed when he touched the brake pedal with the engine running and the vehicle not moving, there was a loud hissing sound coming from the behind the brake pedal. It was not noticeable when the vehicle was moving. The consumer continued to experience problems with the brakes after taking it to the dealer. The pedal would go down to the floor and he would have to pump the brake, to get it back up, while driving on the expressway, it felt as though the vehicle was trying to brake. The dealer believed a rod in the brake system was not adjusted correctly from a previous brake job. Also, the rotors were replaced.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

This is the second time this has happened. As I approached a red light, I put my foot on the break but the car kept on slowly going ahead. My foot was down to the floor on the break, but it still went forward and I had to swerve to the right so as not to have an accident. I had the break system checked by two different mechanics at two different shops and they could not find anything wrong. Would the gas pedal have anything to do with it? two different auto shops, looked at the break system and they could not find anything wrong. When this happens, there is a loud whirring sound from underneath the car. My car already had the 90000 mile checkup and with minor adjustments of belts etc. It passed with flying colors. Now I am afraid to drive it. Please help me.

7 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

While entering a curve my car slowed down then all of a sudden accelerated to an uncontrollable speed, I tried to regain control of my car by tapping on the brakes which did not help my situation as a matter of fact it made things worse, to avoid oncoming traffic I hit a pole again at a high rate of speed which made my car spin, I am a professional school bus driver & have taken this and many other curves for years, I could not explain why this car did what it did, as a result of this crash I received a reckless driver ticket and 2 points on my license because it was a one car accident, the only explanation that the authorities could give me was hydroplane, thats not what happened it was as if this car my car of 7 years had a mind of its on and started racing.

9 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Driving around 7:30 pm suddenly traffic comes to a halt, I brake and the car does not slow down at all, I was going between 35 to 40 miles an hour. The brakes did not do anything but the car was still accelerating. I hit the car in front of me. This happened before when I was on the highway but luckily I did not hit anyone. But this time I did $6000 damages to my car. Took it to the dealership for repair and mentioned that the car did not stop and they did not question it again. I notice that I am not the only one this has happened to. I heard that some models of Toyota's have this problem.

10 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2012

On a rainy October 28, 2012 Sunday, I was traveling on rte. 73, in moorsetown, NJ and I attempted to get off 73 and go down the rte. 295 n ramp. As I went down the ramp, I put on my brakes to slow down and all of a sudden it felt like my car was flying. The brakes locked up, the car spun around and crashed into the curb so hard on the drivers side, that it totaled the back and front rims of my tires. Then once I thanked god for not letting there be any cars around me and letting me be alright, then I attempted to move the car. I backed the car up a little bit then pressed down on brake to change gear into drive and turned steering wheel away from curb, and my car flew to the other side of the ramp and crashed into the curb on the passengers side of which damaged the front rim on that side and through all of this the air bag never ejected. I could kind of understand that it was wet and the car hydroplaned before first crash. But I don't understand how before the car took off the second time while I had my foot on the brake and barely moving, brakes were completely locked up. At this point I was scared to move the car again, so I just cut the car off and sat there for a while, then turned it back on, then it felt like brakes were alright when I pressed down on it. I took my car back to the dealer I bought it from and asked them to check the brakes and of course they said that it was nothing wrong with them. At this point and time, I do not trust this car, but I do trust god to keep me safe in this car or else I wouldn't even drive it after that episode. I needed to get 3 new rims, 1 tire, a hub cap and wheel alignment for my car and I just thank god that there was no other damages. And now I'm just waiting on the lord to give me the opportunity to get a SUV and it won't be a Toyota.

11 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2012

When ever I turn off the car then start it again and move either forward or backward there is a grinding sound in my forward break area. I took it in to Toyota and was told that they couldn't recreate the sound. I took it to a private mechanic and he replaced a part twice. It stops grinding for a couple of days but then it comes back. It now happens nearly every time I go forward or backwards. Also, if I go over a bumpy stretch of road or suddenly step on my brakes the brakes grind and I am unable to stop for a few seconds. It seems like something is wrong with the abs. This is an ongoing problem that happens daily.

12 Service Brakes problem

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2010

Check engine light came on 11/14/10 and car started slam shifting, and died on freeway. The car started again, and I took it to xx in moreno valley next day. Dealer said faulty ecu (dtc p2716) and the part must be ordered. I asked if they could provide a loaner car because I don't feel safe driving the car with a faulty ecm. I was told part will most likely be in Tuesday or Wednesday. The dealer said a loaner car would not be provided unless the car totally stop operating. I live in san bernardino and work in moreno valley, approx 26 miles one way. I have aaa towing basic for 6 miles. I would usually purchase aaa southern CA automobile club towing for up to 100 miles, but because I bought a new reliable Toyota, I just got the basic towing in case the battery died. I don't have towing to get the car to moreno valley in case it completely stops running. I'm worried about safety and logistics! I don't trust this Toyota Corolla. Dealer will not keep the car and give me a loaner until the part arrives. Will Toyota be responsible if this car stalls again in traffic and causes an accident? will Toyota be responsible if this car needs to be towed to the dealer? will Toyota be responsible if the transmission becomes damaged from the hard shifting? will Toyota be responsible if the car catches fire from faulty electrical wiring? this Corolla has had brake and steering problems. Brake fluid always low, although brakes verified as repaired and okay by technician. The wheel bearing on the front driver's side wheel is going bad and the tire will not hold air. The tire has been examined and is good. I smell electrical burning once in awhile. The belt tensioner pulley bearing bad. Occasionally, smell antifreeze, which indicates a leaking head gasket. Wind noise, windows creak when moved up/down. The locks squeak. The interior rattles. The paint job is runny, weld points are sloppy. Car stalling, slam shifting, then cutting off. The car has a little over 50,000 miles.

I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla with 55k miles that one of the rear wheels locked up an would not rotate. The car could not be moved as the passenger rear wheel became locked. After towing to the dealership, they removed the rear brake drums and cleaned dust and rust from inside the drums. 22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2009

The first time I experienced problems with my brakes occurred on April 28th, 2007. I was exiting a parking lot that had a downward slope and as I merged onto the main road, I stepped on my brakes but my car would not stop. I was forced to use the emergency brakes, but even then, the vehicle did not come to a complete stop for another 10 yards. On may 2nd, 2007, I took the vehicle to be checked at hollywood Toyota in los angeles, CA. The invoice notes state that the causes for the brake problems on this particular occasion were that the brake pedal was spongy and the brakes were out of adjustment. For the vehicle being brand new and me being the first owner, I find it rather disturbing that these brake problems had already become an issue after only one month of ownership. On March 24th, 2009, another significant braking incident happened. As I entered the driveway of my home, I stepped on the accelerator to go up the driveway's incline and then tapped on my brakes. When I tapped on the brakes the vehicle would not stop. I pulled on the emergency brakes but it still did not stop. I was forced to steer my vehicle in the direction of my house in order for the vehicle to hopefully stop with the impact. The front drivers side of the vehicle broke through a wooden fence surrounding my front garden before the vehicle hit the corner of my house and finally came to a halt. The most serious braking failure incident occurred on June 25th, 2009 in the kaiser sunset parking structure. I put the car in reverse to pull out of my parking spot. I then shifted to drive while applying my brakes. Since the structure was at an incline the vehicle gained velocity as I drove down to the lower levels to exit. I pressed on my brakes but it did not work. I then pulled on the emergency brakes but the vehicle still would not stop. I was forced to hit the exit cross bar so that the impact would stop my vehicle from moving.

The contact indicated that the failure occurred on multiple occasions. In 2009, the complete brake system was replaced due to a defect. No further information was available. 24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2008

We have a 2007 Toyota Corolla ce whose brakes wore down too fast. We purchased brand new in 2007 with 58 miles on the car. At around 20,000 miles, when we pressed the brakes, there was play in the pedal and there was a pull to the right slightly. Toyota, repaired the brakes since our car was under warranty. Now our brakes are wearing down again and pulling to the side again.

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2008

I was driving coming from my sister in laws house at grandview, washington leaving around 7:40 am heading home to seattle going west to interstate-82 on Friday, August 22, 2008 with my three kids. I was using my cruise control and stayed on the left lane for about 20 to 30 minutes. We just left yakima city and headed to the fred redmon memorial bridge at around 8:30 am going up hill, in which I saw two tractor-trailer far in advance and both were driving on the right lane. The left lane was open as I drove in to the bridge but then the other tractor-trailer made a change to go to the left lane. I was probably 50 feet away when the other tractor-trailer made the change to the left lane. I was cruising about 50 to 60 mph in which I have to put my right foot on the brake pedal. At first, I thought I step on my gas pedal because the car did not slowdown a bit. I pressed the button to turn off the cruise control and hit the foot brake again and again. I then realized that my brakes did not work. As I was getting too closed to the left lane truck, I panicked and made a change to go to right and rear-ended the Volvo tractor-trailer.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2008

Stop the car while driving. Big crash noise just like conflicting metals. 1/14/08 dealer changed the ecm at 13,699 miles. After then when stopped and idling in drive with brakes on the rpms drop and there is tapping noise from the passenger front side of car. But the service always told me your car is fine. I had to do maintenance service for transmission oil change and 30,000 miles service at 26,68miles.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2007

It was normal sunny day and smooth traffic I was driving Toyota Corolla(2007) on I-295 north in NJ and was on leftmost lane @ around 70 mph in hamilton area near exit 65. Then suddenly it went out of control spinning around on highway . It went spinning from left most lane to right shoulder spinning 2-3 times . Luckily no body was injured and no other vehicle was involved but my car had to be totaled I requested car company (Toyota) to properly inspect the vehicle if it had any issues with software and also brakes as there was no reason for spinning while driving around 70mph . Considering the way car spun at that time it was evident locking of front wheels suddenly may be the one of the reasons . Company never contacted me back again they had promised to get back to me after inspection was done by company inspector/engineer.
