1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2016

Car pulled suddenly in opposite direction on 4 separate occasions when making turns at reasonable speeds. On another occasion, car pulled forcefully to the right when breaking. Accidents were avoided in all instances, even though the car spun out of control momentarily. Brought the car into the dealer three times and they could not diagnose problem. As the problem was intermittent and unpredictable, they were unable to pick it up on test drives. Replaced front tires, had brakes checked, but happened again. Just had the rear tires replaced and alignment done, but really feel that the problem is in the steering. How can I be sure the car is safe?.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2010

My steering wheel has been locking up in my 2007 Toyota Corolla le. It will lock and not allow me to turn the key in the ignition, and I have to lift the steering wheel, and hope it will then allow me to turn the key. Thus far, it has not locked while driving, but I am afraid it could. It sometimes happens once a week, or as often as five times a day! this began July 14, 2010 and continues today August 24, 2010. The Toyota dealership will be replacing the locking cylinder as soon as the ordered parts come in because they believe that is the problem.

2007 Toyota Corolla steering problem - on may 26, 2010 while driving on the freeway at approx. 50mph my Corolla began to veer to the left, my daughter was unable to straighten the wheel and it felt "locked" in place. The veering resulted in the car spinning out on the freeway and crashing into another car. Two witnesses reported that for no apparent reason the car started to spin out of control on the dry freeway. The car was towed to a Toyota dealer for inspection. 9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2010

2007 Toyota Corolla sometimes won't start. Turns over fast with starter, but won't start. Then, the next try, it does. May be related to the same problem as stalling. Also the steering feels too stiff, makes it hard to keep in the lane when it is windy.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2010

Consumer has stated that his 2007 Toyota Corolla pulls to the right while driving.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

2007 Toyota Corolla wanders at high speeds. Very much like getting pushed by high winds. I find my self fighting to keep lane position. New premium tires and alignment from reputable tire dealer has not changed the behavior.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

My 2007 Toyota Corolla feels like it is floating when I am on the highway and driving above 60 mph. I thought it was wind or tire pressure but I corrected the tire pressure and it still does the same thing. It only happens when I get up to a higher speed and not on regular roads or in the town. It did not do this for the first year and a half that I owned the car but it has been doing it regularly for the past 6 months.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2010

I just read an article on msnbc's about '09-10' Corollas having difficulties steering their vehicles. My '07 Corolla has the same problem, especially when I'm driving at highway speeds. I initially thought it was a tire issue, but I have bought new tires recently and after checking the air pressure, the issue remains. It is worse during high winds, as my car has a feeling like I will lose control of the car.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2010

I was driving on the 60 freeway with my 2007 Toyota Corolla. It drifted to the right for more than 100 yards. When I corrected it, the steering wheel locked to the left and I ended up running into the central divider.

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2010

2007 Toyota Corolla. Steering wheel gets stuck on the return from a left or a right turn. The return on the steering wheel is not a smooth return. Its a hesitant return with a shake. Mainly happens on colder days. Took the vehicle to the Toyota dealership on 1/15/10 for the issue and they said they could not reproduce the issue.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

Purchased 2007 Corolla from dealer, definitely drifts at highway speeds, have had it re-aligned at dealer, dealer says that nothing is wrong with it --requires frequent steering corrections to keep in within lane.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2009

Toyota Corolla 2007 frequently veers left (wind from the right) - nearly out of lane when a side wind hits car going @ highway speeds - 65mph. I thought this was just "normal" until all this publicity over the Toyota recalls, and figured I should report it. I just slow down, and hold the steering wheel very carefully, but it is quite alarming, and always happens on one stretch of road I travel where the car goes from a wind protected area to a place where cross breezes take place.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

Not a crash, but a concern. I read that you are looking into steering of Corollas from 2009 and later, but please look into earlier models as well. Two months ago a problem occurred with my car. Twice while driving on slightly uneven freeways, my car has felt like it was going to leave the lane, steering into the next lane. I grabbed the wheel tighter and turned to correct it, so no crash, but the car did move several feet over before I grabbed the steering wheel. Both times I was going 75-80 mph. I thought I was crazy, but then read about steering problems. As long as I drive less than 70, it has never happened again. (and I have often driven fast in both this car and previous ones) the problem is I can't exactly take it to the dealer and say "sometimes it steers funny" as a description.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2009

I was driving about 30 mile, the steering wheel just veer in one direction, cannot drive the car. Tow it to the dealer.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2009

Had been driving my car for 10 minutes when the lights started to flicker. I started to slow and then the car died. There wasn't any power and I was unable to steer the car. Fortunately, there was very light traffic at 0613 and no one hit my car. This has never happened before. My parents arrived within 15 minutes. My dad cleaned the battery terminals and the battery did spark. Car would not restart. A few people helped us push the car off the road. Towed to closest, reputable, mechanic. Main fusible link blown. Wiring w/o rating. Mechanic called Toyota and there wasn't any literature available to give mechanic the rating. Toyota refused to send wiring diagram. Mechanic found online and still no info on rating. Replaced with heaviest rating available. Problem fixed and unable to duplicate what caused problem. Most concerning is that mechanic cannot guarantee that this will not happen again. Car then to Toyota dealership. They were also unable to duplicate problem and cannot guarantee that it will not happen again. Toyota customer service was most unhelpful, implying that I had somehow caused the problem. Also, indicated that I should have gone to Toyota dealership first. Car no longer under warranty so I have no obligation to do go to them for service.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2009

It's a 2007 Corolla. I don't usually drive much before and I do drive a lot since I transfer to college and have to go on fwy. About 3 months ago, once I tried to stop on the road because right light, I left the gas pedal and wait to decelerate and then step on the break, but it didn't, I almost hit the car before me and it's really hard to stop I had to step it really hard. From than time, I began to realize that there might be a problem for it. I cant tell exactly how often it happen, but somehow I know when it goes up to 60mph, and it will decelerate. When it drops to around 45, it stops to drop. And when I go on the fwy, when it hits certain speed like 75, some times it won't slow down even I leave my foot from the gas pedal after I knew the tyt petal problem and the steering problem, I wonder if my car was involved. However, this model is not on the list, I still worried about it. Because tyt might hide the problem, or they did find it now and they will find it later. This week I got a speeding ticket in CA I-5 fwy and I doubt that part of the reason is that the "rare" accelerate problem. I don't know how to fix it because there's no evidence to show the problem right now. I hope that the us will investigate all model from 2000 to 2010 to ensure people safe.

22 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2009

I was in a parking lot, parking my car. Just before I had the car in its parking place, the car went wild, totally out of control. It went up the slope bordering the parking lot, then made a turn, and re-entered the parking lot. It came to a stop when it bumped into two other parked cars.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2009

I have been having problems with my 2007 Toyota Corolla for some time now. When I am on the highway my car swerves back and forth. I have to really hold down on the wheel to get it to drive straight. I went to the Toyota dealership to have them look at the problem and they said that it was slightly unaligned and that the re aligned the steering. After this the car still has problems when driving and Toyota says there is nothing wrong with it but that's not true at all. I have had three near accidents on the highway do to the car swerving but luckily nobody has been hurt. I wish there was something that could be done about this because Toyota just does not seem to care when I go to there groppone dealership in concord, nh; where I bought the car. I hope you guys can help me. It says below the date of incident but I will put most recent since there are three individual near accidents.

24 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Corolla. While turning into a parking lot at an unknown speed, the vehicle swerved and drove over three medians. The vehicle stopped when it struck a fire hydrant. There were no injuries and both occupants in the vehicle were wearing their seat belts. The police arrived and filed a report. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. In January of 2009, the contact heard a rattling sound under the vehicle while driving in reverse. The weather conditions were cold at the time. The dealer could not locate the source of the noise. The failure mileage was 19,500.

25 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

I have a Toyota Corolla 2007, the power steering locks up causing me to bump it on the gutter.

26 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Corolla. Since the date of purchase she noticed that the steering did not stay straight it was a struggle to keep it in straight line. She took the vehicle back to the dealer five times for the failure. The dealer test drove the vehicle and stated it was the tires. The dealer replaced all four tires; however the failure was not corrected. The failure mileage was 17,000 and the current mileage was 32,000. The VIN was not available.

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2008

In the past 2 1/2 years I rented two Toyota Corolla's from hertz car rental. They both had severe steering problems. They would veer one way, say right for example. A small steering wheel turn to the left did nothing and the car kept going right. Then another small turn to the left and the car would veer sharply to the left. In the first case, in California, when the car veered left I had an accident with another car in the lane to the left. After straighten things out with the other driver and the police, I took the still-drivable car, no longer with a left side mirror to a hertz agency and exchanged it for a Ford automobile. It steered fine. For the second time, a year later, I thought (incorrectly) that the first car was accidentally out of alignment and I rented another Toyota Corolla from a hertz agency in florida. It veered all over the road too. Policewoman stopped me and said I had been reported as driving erratically. When she learned that the problem was with the car she told me to get to the nearest phone and call hertz (80 miles away) and have them bring me another car. Actually, I went to the nearest motel and called hertz from there. It took until the next day for themto bring a different car, not a Toyota. It steered fine. Those Corolla's were dangerous. I rented them because I owned an old 1993 Toyota Corolla and it was a wonderful car and certainly had no steering difficulties. Dates below are approximate.

28 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2007

I would like to make a formal complaint about my 2007 Toyota Corolla. I purchased my car in January 2007. I'm having problems with my vehicle. The is a vibration I feel coming from the steering wheel. My car stopped on the li expressway due to 2 sensors that no longer worked. There is a shaking in my tires & every time I turn my car on there is a loud noise coming from the engine.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2007

I currently lease a 2007 Toyota Corolla which commenced on February 23, 2007. I have experienced an issue with the steering since day one. It is as follows: depending on the level of road unevenness, the car drifts left or right and requires nearly constant correction and then, over-correction just to maintain a straightforward course. The car does not weave erratically all over the road, but it is just simply a chore to drive, especially in windy conditions or in the draft of a passing transport truck. I was very concerned with the steering performance as being a safety issue at the outset. I approached my Toyota dealer, and then Toyota canada with my problem but it was quite simply shrugged off. I have since "learned" how to drive this car in the past three years because I have been unable to rid myself of the lease. I have suffered no accidents or injuries because of this car. My purpose in reporting this complaint at this time is to inform you that the Toyota Corolla steering issues date back at least as early as the 2007 model year. Indeed, at the time in 2007, after doing some research on the internet , I found I was only one of many who experienced this same problem. My hope is that my experience may be of some use to you.

30 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/01/1901

2007 Toyota Corolla poor steering issue the consumer stated the vehicle swerved back and forth at interstate speeds. They dealer told the consumer the vehicle needed a rear end alignment. The second time the consumer went back to the dealer, he complained of wobbly steering, so the dealer balanced the tires. The third time, was the same as the second time with the steering. The fifth time, the consumer went to the dealer he stated the problem was worse and seemed to get more worse after an interstate trip of 50 mph or when the tires heated up. The consumer also stated when driving the vehicle at lows speed, it seemed to wobble. When the consumer went back to the dealer three of the four tires were out of balance. The dealer also stated the rims could be the cause of the poor steering. The dealer agreed to replace one of the tires, however the problem was still not resolved. The consumer went to get a second opinion and they agreed there was a steering issue. The consumer went back to the original dealer and they agreed to remove the tires and rims from the vehicle. The new tires and rims helped, but the vehicle still swayed, but not as bad as before. The consumer stated he read a newspaper article where a person who worked in a California plant that made Toyota Corolla's was in trouble for making accusations about others passing off faulty front ends. The consumer no longer owns the vehicle. Updated 04/14/10.
