1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2026

My 2010 Toyota Corolla is experiencing progressive paint failure due to a known manufacturer defect involving factory-applied blizzard pearl or super white paint. The affected component is the factory paint system, specifically the adhesion between the topcoat and primer, which is failing and causing the paint to peel off in sheets from exterior body panels. The defective paint is available for inspection upon request. This condition creates a potential safety concern, as sections of paint may detach while the vehicle is in motion, creating debris that could pose a hazard to surrounding motorists. In addition, exposed underlying surfaces may become more susceptible to corrosion over time, which could affect the integrity of exterior body panels. The issue was previously confirmed by an authorized dealership during inspections conducted under the manufacturer’s customer support program for paint peeling on vehicles equipped with blizzard pearl or super white paint. During the active coverage period, only certain visibly affected panels were refinished, while other factory-painted panels were left untreated. Since the program has expired, the previously untreated panels are now exhibiting the same paint peeling and failure that the program was intended to address. The paint deterioration developed gradually over time and was not the result of external damage. No warning lamps or messages were present prior to the failure.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2022

I was on a highway exit ramp (exit 5 off northbound I-395) when my airbags deployed (driver and both sides). My car veered off the asphalt and then quickly I got control and continued out of traffic on a residential side road just off route 7 westbound. My car then abruptly stoped. I managed to restart it a couple of times and run it just enough to get it off the road . I have attached photos. There does not appear to be any resulting damage to the body of the car. There were no outstanding recalls on the vehicle. I have reported the incident to my insurance (geico).

I deliver for doordash and I was making my third delivery of the morning. As I pulled into a parking lot to park my car I tried to out my car into park like I had been all morning except this time I couldn't put my car into park. After I finished the delivery I went back out to my car to get back on the road and I couldn't take my car out of park. It felt like something was jammed and the gear stuck would barely budge. My first instinct was to look online to see if this has happened to other cars like mine and many articles popped up of people experiencing the same thing happening to their car. My car has zero problem with the transmission, gear box or anything in the past and it's never made any odd noises either. I believe that this was a problem with the car and not something that I caused.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2019

Takata recall- the airbag sensor light recently came on in my car and I am being told there is an issue with the airbag inflator and/or sensor causing the light to stay on. Also this is the second time in a year that my horn has gone out.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2019

Driver side window switch is not working good. When using it to pull down driver side window is being scratched up due to I think lack of lubricant. Window switch works but is making marks on my windo and I am scared it will eventually break it.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2018

The car was driven on a highway for a 40 minute trip and when we got home the dash had started to melt and burn. It starts on the center console near the air bag sign and continues towards the passenger side door across the lower glove compartment.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2017

As I was driving down a slight decline driveway my car suddenly accelerated to around 20 or more miles. The only way I was able to stop is by driving it on the curb and onto the sidewalk.

10 Equipment problem

"takata recall" I was in an accident in my 2010 Toyota Corolla exiting a major interstate on 07/07/2017. The off ramp had a very sharp curve where I lost control (possibly a failure in the stability control system?) and was traveling at around 45mph. I went into a spin and the left rear of my car hit the guardrail, spinning out still my car then hit the guardrail head-on causing the front end to collapse into the motor cavity. The airbags did not deploy causing bruising to my shoulder and abdomen areas. My neck and back were injured causing me to be immobile for a couple of weeks. I have had cat-scans and mri's trying to find out what my injuries are. I have to go to pain management to deal with the everyday pain and my life has been affected greatly. I informed Toyota about the airbags and they seemed very concerned. The are investigating the issue and sent out a company called bosch to download information from the cdr box. I am still waiting on Toyota's answer to this problem. I was never aware of this recall as I had purchased the car pre-owned from a Toyota dealership October of 2015. I also reported the airbag lights going off and on along with other electrical problems to two different Toyota dealerships along with allstate insurance company, my provider.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2017

Car would start then driving at 10mph the car stalls and the dash lights illuminate the dashboard. Put the car in park and restart with no problem but if somebody was behind me it would've caused an accident. Last week car did the same thing except I the car was in motion towards an intersection from idle and had to quickly put it in park and restart it and move it before I would've been involved in a deadly accident.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2016

I will start by saying that I have a Toyota Corolla 2010. On Friday September 13,2016 while I was driving in a street about 20/30 mph my car started accelerating by itself, I tried to stop by pressing the brake, but the car kept going, then I moved the handle on parking, the car wouldn¿t respond until I pull the hand brake. I immediately called Toyota and explained to them what happen. Quickly they sent a tow truck to pick up my car to see what was wrong. They gave me a loaner for the day. The person at the dealer told me they will contact me the next day and we could take it from there. Nobody called so around 3pm I called asking they said they haven¿t hear from corporation and they didn¿t know. I ask about the loaner car. They said not to worry about it. The same thing happens the next day. I called they say not to worry about the car and that they will call me if they have any news on my car. On Friday around 4:50 the service manager called me and said that Toyota corporation had concluded that there is nothing wrong with the car. They said I could pick up my car and pay for the rental car and the inspection of the car. I would like to know if any of you or know someone who had something similar happened. I am terrified to drive the car and so frustrated the Toyota had decided that there¿s nothing wrong with the car. I don¿t know what to do about it. I have grandkids who gets in the car also my job requires me to drive patients in my car.

Takata recall-I live in south florida. I believe this requires that I be one of the first to receive it. We have been waiting too long.

Failure Date: 01/14/2016

Takata recall. The NHTSA recall number is 16v340. The manufacturer recall number is g1p. My complaint is in regards to the recall effort. Before receiving the official letter from Toyota for this recall, I had taken my car to my local Toyota dealer because for a time the airbag light was turning on and staying on longer than the other lights after ignition. I had heard the news about defective airbags and was concerned. When I took my car in for the first time in early 2016, they told me everything was fine and that there was no need to return unless the light stayed on during trips. When I asked them if it was safe to have someone sit in the front passenger seat, they said it was fine. Then, months later, when I got the recall notice from Toyota, the letter clearly stated that, I should not have anyone sitting in the front passenger seat. When I took my car in again, they said they were still working on a fix and that it could take months or perhaps even years. Apart from the fact I cannot use my front passenger seat for people, the most infuriating part of this is that I was told by people at my local Toyota dealer (before receiving the official recall notice), that I could safely have people in the front passenger seat. In addition, I have driven for months concerned about an airbag in my car which could harm or kill me or other people in my car. Slightly before learning about the defective airbags, I was involved in a single-car crash with a yellow safety post in a subterranean parking lot entrance in January 2016 (fender bender). While my front bumper had to be repaired, no airbags were deployed at the time.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2015

Car was t-boned by other car & all airbags deployed causing injury to people in vehicle.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2015

Inspection by auto repair facility (brookhaven automotive, norman oklahoma) revealed driver and passenger air bags were not working, along with horn and speed control unit. Clock spring and spiral cable kit found inoperative and replaced by facility at cost of $339 (parts & labor) to consumer. The spiral cable unit was subject previously to recall and was so replaced at no charge by fowler Toyota, norman oklahoma, on 12/02/14. Shouldn't these safety defects be covered by the manufacturer? especially the spiral cable unit that was just replaced under recall on 12/02/14? thank you - rick leflore.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2014

I was starting to back out of a diagonal parking space and suddenly the car rapidly accelerated and backed across two lanes of downtown business traffic colliding with a vehicle parked diagonally across the street. When my vehicle started accelerating I stomped on my brake but the car did not stop until it hit the other vehicle. I believe this is an incident of "unintended low-speed surging" as reported on the internet and under NHTSA action number dp14003.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

Entered head in parking spot in enclosed public garage, car was positioned crooked within lines, backed up minimal feet to correct to a parallel position, put in drive (foot on brake) car lurched forward violently perhaps 5 to 6 feet into a braided restraining cable at the front of the space. Front end damage to body, headlight, jammed passenger door, front of hood, possible radiator and/or a/c condenser. Repairs are beginning at Toyota collision center, 410-525-1000, 15001 s. Caton Ave. Halethorpe (baltimore) maryland . Estimate is $3500 - my share $1000 deductible with liberty mutual. Floor mat recall has been done and fix was completed, have not been notified yet re steering column cable repair. A check on the NHTSA website of my serial number does not include this car in the acceleration issue. If nothing else, I would like to have the gas pedal correction in this recall to be done on my car anyway, even though it does not show in your recall listing - can this be done?? can you request this of my dealer - russel Toyota 6324 baltimore national pike (410-788-8400) - baltimore, MD?? otherwise, I will be scared that this could occur again at any time!!.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2014

Trunk for 2010 Corolla did not stay open when wife opened trunk to access items. Lid edge hit bridge of her nose, causing a small cut, and swelling. Developed to "racoon eyes" the same evening that lasted a few days. Car was parked on slight incline. Even on level surfaces, lid closes unexpectedly.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2014

While driving on route 30 east in PA, I experienced a scenario where I was on cruise control and pressed the brake. The car continued to accelerate at it's speed and subsequent pressings of the brakes did not slow the car. I shifted the car into neutral and the brakes still were not slowing the car enough. I had to drive into the left shoulder and grass beyond that in order to slow the car down enough to let other cars pass so I could go into the right lane. The next business I took my car to the dealer and after driving 7 miles and looking for error codes, reported that they "could not reproduce the issue". My car already had all the fixes for the unintended acceleration issue that Toyota had a number of recalls for done in December 2013. This issue needs to be further investigated by Toyota because if the reported fixes do not work, then there could be a significant number of accidents/fatalities yet to come. I never had experienced this issue before.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2013

Takata recall. Gas pedal becomes stuck with floor mat when car is in motion. We have had to remove floor mat for safety. Removal of floor mat has caused wear and tear on floor board covering.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

To Toyota : sending out an interim recall notice #16v-340 saying you are preparing a remedy is not satisfactory this recall has been ongoing for months and a remedy should have already been completed. Toyota had plenty of time to prepare this remedy. Advising owners not to drive vehicle with passengers in front is certainly not conducive when you only have one vehicle to use. You should provide another vehicle in the meantime.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2010

Purchased a new 2010 Corolla. Driving home from work last week, I had two service lights on (my car has 1400 miles on it). The steering in the car seemed "loose" as I drove home, but when I went to turn on my street, the steering wheel did not turn and the abs failed. I hit a curb on the opposite side of the road damaging a strut and an alloy wheel. My local dealer, lakeland Toyota, told me it was not their problem but that I needed to figure out how to pay for the repairs. They told me that they had no idea why those two warning lights were on. I am currently trying to work with Toyota corporate to get this resolved in a manner that I will feel safe driving the car. Kind of hard to do when they refuse to accept that there is a problem.

28 Equipment problem
