2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

Part of a customer support repair program through Toyota. It expired, and Toyota customer care at 1-888-270-9371 told me to file a complaint at NHTSA. Gov. So I am filing a complaint. The paint is peeling on my car rapidly and I have missed the support program deadline because it was not happening in the timeframe they created for this problem. But there is no reason for my pain to be peeling like it is other than manufacture error.

3 Equipment problem

I am writing to formally request a recall or resolution for a significant defect in my [2011, Toyota, Corolla] vehicle, which I purchased in 2011. Over time, the paint on my vehicle has begun peeling extensively, affecting not just the aesthetics but also potentially the resale value and durability of the car. This issue appears to be a widespread problem among vehicles of similar make and year, suggesting a potential manufacturing defect. Given the extent of the paint deterioration, I kindly request that Toyota company acknowledge and address this issue through a recall or appropriate corrective measures. Vehicle details: make & model: Toyota, Corolla year: 2011 VIN: [xxx] current mileage: 80,000 estimated I would appreciate a prompt response regarding my request. Please let me know the next steps in addressing this concern, including any available remedies Toyota may offer. You may contact me at [xxx] or [xxx] at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. Best regards, [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. Failure Date: 04/13/2022

Sunroof suddenly exploded while driving 40 mph on a highway no evidence of projectile was in the car. The glass was volcanoed up. It was around 50 degrees outside. I was immediately confused as to what happened. I was traveling in a merging lane and could have vered into the other lane and hit another car. Glass was falling down onto me and the passenger seat. No police were called I took the vehicle to a glass repair. Insurance was not involved as my dectiable would not have been meet for the cost of the repairs. No warning or any symptoms the sunroof glass from the car. Itjust suddenly exploded for no reason.

Car accelerates hard from stationary idle. Happening for several weeks. Yesterday accelerated from idle at a 4 way stop intersection almost caused an accident. Very scary. Not comfortable using it until problem remedied.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2020

Vehicle horn stopped working. Not sure what caused it to stop working. I have not used it that often, but this recently happen when I was merging onto the highway and another vehicle almost ran right into me and my horn did not work to warn them I was there. This makes me nervous in case something does happen with my child in the car.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2016

Both of the sun visors have gotten so loose that they no longer function. I can't lift them up to see at night, and when I go up a hill, it's impossible to see what's ahead. They partially block the view of the road ahead at all times when I'm driving. The only way to correct it is to purchase new visors and have a dealership install them. I see that many of these cars have a recall because of sun visor problems, however, mine is not on the list. I called the dealership and they confirmed it was a problem, but they can't fix them. All sun visors in these cars should be replaced without customers having to pay out of pocket.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2016

Takata recall I feel that one year is entirely too long to ask people to simply "avoid having people ride in the passenger seat". Perhaps if more people speak up, manufacturers will feel more inclined to rectify this issue promptly.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

Not sure why I was not contacted about all of these recalls. I have owned this vehicle since Dec. 2012.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2016

On January 7, 2016 we brought our car to the weston, florida Toyota dealership because a check engine light was on. The service writer said there was a problem with the "canister" and that it had to be replaced. They gave us a loner-car and said the problem would be fixed in two days. Later that week, the service writer told us the computer had to be replaced and it would be "a while" until the part arrived. We still have the "loaner" and the car has been at the dealership since January 7th. Today is April 27th. So far 110 days. The loaner car is very nice (2015 Toyota Corolla). My wife loves the back-up camera, but her car still sits at the dealership. The car has 44,000 miles and has been repaired only once before. Interestingly, the previous problem with the car had to do with the computer. The car would lose over 100 rpm at highway speeds and then quickly accelerate back up to the preceding rpm. I think the mechanic said that he flashed the computer or something else that made me think (in layman's language) that he "rebooted" the car's computer. This week the service manager said that they expect the new computer to arrive by may 15th. I wrote a letter to southeast Toyota and their representative called to let me know that we were not alone but there are over 50 cars in their system that need new computers. It seems to me that the most popular car in the world should have an adequate supply or suppliers to replace the ones that go bad. . . To get a computer from manufacturing to the dealership should take fewer than five months. What do you think?.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2015

I drive quite a bit and normally know my vehicles pretty good. I have recently obtained this 2011 Toyota Corolla s and it is in great condition overall. I made a trip 2 days after getting the vehicle and immediately noticed a hesitation between 55-65 mph. The first time it was approximately 11am in the morning at 78f. Driving on a flat well maintained black top road the vehicle does in fact have a constant hesitation that drops approximately 1000-2000 rpms with a noticeable feel in the vehicle. Immediately (3-4 sec) after the hesitation the vehicle recovers back to the original rpm. As long as staying in this speed range (55-65 mph) the vehicle has the hesitation repeatedly. The second issue that I have noticed on the same vehicle is the actual deceleration when removing my foot from accelerator. When traveling on the same road and time as stated above the vehicle seems to really coast right along or so it seems. When saying this, I removed my foot from accelerator and the vehicle rolls right along as if I am still pushing the accelerator at which time I must apply the brake more significantly than letting it just coast. I would like to know how this is effecting my gas mileage, is it going to cause undue strain on the drivetrain, is this going to be a problematic issue that Toyota is going to continue to ignore?.

16 Equipment problem

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2015

I was getting out a parking in reverse, suddenly the car acelerated without control crashing with the car was behind in the other extreme in the parking. Damages:1-bumper, right and left of the rear sides of my car 2-back, front, and sides of the car which my car stopped.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2014

Once a month or so when I am at highway speeds the car does not decelerate as normal when I take my foot off the gas petal. The car tend to stays at the speed it was at until I use the break. It is almost like the cruise control has been turned on without notice (it is never turned on during these cases). This sometimes includes the slight acceleration like some car get when they are going back on cruise control. Luckily I keep a good distance between me and the car ahead of me. I can see this issues causing accidents.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

Shaking of car and sweaky brakes.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2014

On April 19th, 2014, at about 1:30 pm, myself and my wife left our friend's home in los altos hills, CA. As we left the driveway at about 5 mph on baker ln, the car went into a sudden, uncontrollable acceleration mode, reaching speeds 50 - 60 mph. Within about 1000 - 1500 ft we approached a the intersection of baker ln and purissima rd. , all the while desperately trying to press the brake, applying hand brake and shifting to neutral. Against this sudden burst of acceleration, the car went off the road at that intersection, and fell into a ditch and stopped by a tree trunk. Both of us were injured with multiple internal/ external fractures, but we were conscious; my wife in the passenger seat had more grievous injuries, including an open wound of broken bone in ankle and severe spinal cord injuries, and was screaming with pain. Once I collected myself, I called 911 and the fd/ paramedics responded and we were hauled from the ditch by cutting open the car doors. We were transported to stanford medical center in palo alto, after which we were shifted to our hmo, after about 10 days in icu. I am now discharged and rehabilitating/ getting physical therapy at home, while my wife is still at a rehab center, over 10 weeks after the accident. At the time of the accident, the weather, visibility and road conditions were excellent; both of us had our seat belts firmly in place; no cell phone was being used; I had my foot on the brake and off the accelerator all the time; air bags deployed as expected. Since both of us were critically injured, we could not initiate/ pursue any legal action against Toyota and surrendered the vehicle (which was totaled) to my insurer, farmers. We strongly feel that Toyota is fully responsible for the defective acceleration system and causing serious bodily injury and mental trauma for both of us. We should be compensated by Toyota.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

I noticed that the driver side floor mat moved to the front and I am afraid that the floormat could jam the gas pedal like it happened before. To my knowledge there have been fatalities due to gas pedals jammed by the floormat on previous Toyota models. Toyota claimed that the floor mat issue was addressed but the 2 clips which are supposed to secure the floormat are not strong enough. My vehicle was not even 3 years old when I first noticed that the floor mat can't be secured anymore. The two tiny plastic hooks are bent and don't hold the floor mat in place.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

I purchased a Toyota Corolla s - 2011 from a very large and reputable massachusetts Toyota dealership on 7/28/2013. I picked up the car at 8:50 pm on 8/30/2013. Much to my surprise and fear, upon gaining speed on the highway during my 50 minute trip home, I felt I had no control of the car. I noticed the steering wheel was not at all centered, facing to the right. The wheel moved about, from left to right, very loosely and on its own. The effect of my holding onto the wheel did little to control the wheels movements. This terrified me and completly stressed and fatigued me during my ride. I felt I had to constantly remain sharp and alert, waiting for the need to correct the next jerking movement from the wheel. Upon arriving home, I spent the entire evening researching this matter in detail, via the internet. I found numerous forums/discussion groups regarding complaints about this same problem. I also found a Toyota (official) "technical service bulletin" (TSB) that detailed this same problem with the 2009 and 2010 Corolla's. The TSB was dated 2010, however, various forums discussed the Corolla 2011 having the exact same eps system (and therefore, the exact same problem). I contacted the dealership within hours and was told to bring my Corolla back to the dealership's service dept. Tomorrow (8/1/2013) so that the car can be looked at and repaired. I am hoping the matter is resolved to a point where I can have any confidence driving this car. I understand your agency recently fined Toyota millions of dollars for a history of failing to report and address safety concerns appropriately. I am more likely going to ask for a full refund given this information and frightening experience.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

When I drive my 2011 Toyota Corolla le (it has 46,665 miles on it) 40-60 miles per hour on the highway or interstate, the rpms jump slightly and it seems to decelerate or accelerate. It feels as though there is something wrong with the transmission. It seems like the transmission is slipping. I took it to a Toyota service center and they said there is nothing wrong with the transmission. Today the maintenance light came on and stayed on. Again, I took it to a Toyota service center, once again I was told that there is nothing wrong with the transmission. The man told me that he had to reset the computer and it should be fine for another 5,000. He said they can "flash" the computer if it keeps giving me trouble. On the way home (10 miles), once again it started doing the same thing. Is there a safety issue with this car. Can it be fixed???.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

3 months after purchasing this vehicle, mice starting coming into the air filtration system. I have tried to keep them out however the design flaw in the cabin air intake will not prevent them from coming in. There is a huge opening where they constantly come in. I have 2 small children and this is very very dangerous between diseases and threat of wires being chewed. We also had a Toyota tundra that had this same problem. My husband traded it in and has a Ford now and does not have a problem at all with mice.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

The first accident was in June 29 2012, while I was driving 10 miles an hour (for transit) the car in front of me stopped and I try to stop as well but my car didn¿t stop (increase its speed) and I crashed in the back of the car (I remain surprised, did not know what had happened). The second accident happened on December the 28th of 2012, around 2:00 pm, I was in my way to new jersey, 2 miles away from the washington bridge; there was a truck in front of me and I was not moving and pushing the brakes but all of a sudden my vehicle started going forward so I used the hand brake trying to stop it; but my car still crash the other car on the back. I bought this car zero miles from your dealer (hudson Toyota) and I am very upset and disappointed! this shouldn¿t happen to me if the car would be in perfect conditions!!, I am always worry driving it, I don¿t know when this will happen again!! I take the car to Toyota's December 29, 2012, revised it and said it did not find anything, was his reply in March 28 of 2013. Now I am in trouble because I used to pay $700 every six months for my car insurance and now they raise it to $ 1,300. 00 every six months.
