1 Tail Light Switch problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2016

2016 Toyota Corolla defect. The daytime running lights on/off switch is on the same control as the headlights. The dlrs turns on before reaching the low beam setting as you twist the control. The dlrs are almost as bright as the low beam headlights and utilize the same bulb at a lower wattage. They can be mistaken for your headlights at night and you will be driving around with no taillights because the taillights are not on when the switch is on the dlr setting. I got pulled over by a cop because I had no tail lights one night. The dealer has no solution for this problem. It is only a matter of time until this incompetent design kills someone. Toyota should fire the engineer behind this and order a recall and at the very least rewire the dlr switch to include taillights and boost the wattage on the dlr to low beam power. It amazes me that this defect would pass thru a company like Toyota and make it to the market. This was a mistake on my part and I was already aware of it and had already brought every driver in my house out to the driveway to show them this dangerous condition. If a conscientious person like me can make this mistake, anyone can.
