On [xxx], around 7:45 pm, my husband and I were driving on [xxx] from atlanta to visit family at john’s creek. We were driving at a steady speed of approximately 70mph on the second lane from the left when all of a sudden, the vehicle displayed a 'malfunction' alert and began swerving uncontrollably. Despite our attempts to regain control, the car swerved right, striking another vehicle three lanes away. We had no control over the steering or bringing the car to a safe stop. After colliding with the other vehicle, it then returned to its original lane and came to a sudden stop with a message displayed stating 'shifting to p'. During this incident, an sos call was automatically placed to Toyota, and we were subsequently connected to 911 through them. Our vehicle got damaged due to this and so did the other vehicle that got hit. The vehicle not only endangered our lives but was also a potential harm to others on the road. Description of problem/issue: dear reader: I recently purchased a new (certified preowned) vehicle and ever since then I have been experiencing some concerns with its handling on the road. This letter seeks to communicate this matter to the proper establishment for some possible recourse. On level roads while the steering wheel is centered straight up (near/over 40mph), the car tends to automatically glide to the left of the lane or coast quickly to the right and won’t stay centered in the lane very long without driver input to steer the car back to the center of the lane. Then when re-centering the car it roams in the other direction, and so forth (an oscillating effect). The issue is that the car diverts from the center of the lane and to maintain the center of the lane the driver has to constantly work at pulling the vehicle back to center. This is not the type of driving performance that I would expect on a new or certified new vehicle. It is both a nuisance and a hazard having to constantly steer the vehicle to center up in the lane. The car’s auto lane assist and departure assist and auto steering assist features are turned off during this time. And even when all these driver assist features are turned back on the drifting/pulling pattern is quite pronounced or seems to be compensating in my opinion. A google search of the term “2023 Toyota Corolla pulls to both sides” produces some great results as to the possible cause and effect. I have never driven a vehicle that diverts so quickly from its own lane so shortly after the driver’s hand is removed from the steering wheel. Nevertheless, the issues that I pointed out remains very alarming and nerve-racking for me! for safety reasons I’m still not pleased with how the car handles on the road. I wonder if there are any safety recalls, current or pending, concerning any of the steering or alignment components/features that would help resolve this problem?.
I was useing the lane keeping assist and steering assist. I was driving down the hyw and parts of the solid white line to the right of me was faded or missing with no sholders. A wide truck that was about to pass me going the opposite direction had crossed over the center lane line and the stearing assist jolted me to the right where there was no visible line as I tryed to turn the steerting wheel to the left the assist jolted me to the right as the line became visible again causing us to go in to a big ditch.

Two weeks and three days after picking up my 2023 Corolla cross from the dealership, I was in stop and go traffic on a busy road. I came to a stop at a red light and my car started making a continuous beeping noise. The display alternated between "engine stopped steering power low" and "engine stopped press brake firmly to restart. " I pressed the brake very firmly multiple times, with no effect. When the light turned green, I tried to move my car to the side of the road, but it did not move. The cars behind me -- including the semi truck directly behind me -- started cutting into traffic in an attempt to get around. I finally put it in park and tried to turn it off, which finally turned the engine back on. (I only had to press the start/stop button once. ) once the engine came on, the car worked normally. The dealership has not been able to reproduce the problem, but an internet search shows that this is not an isolated incident.
Engine stopped at a red light and I had an indicator saying that the power steering was low and to press the brake to reset. Try to once it happened yesterday two 222/2023.
I was at a stoplight and the car cut off. Not the normal auto power down feature, there was no power. A message saying press the brake down to restart appeared. Then a message saying steering power low appeared. The check engine light came on. I pressed the break down, and the vehicle did not restart. I put the car in park then restarted it and was able to drive again. But at the very next light, the same thing happened.
This is the 3rd time it’s happened. It seems to happen after it’s rained and it’s wet and humid outside. I was at a red light waiting for it to change. The car starts making a buzzer noise and shows “ignition on” with “engine stopped power steering low” and flashes to “press break firmly to restart. ” pressing the break does nothing and I cannot move the vehicle at all. This whole time the engine is off and I have to go into park to restart the car by pressing the start/stop button. It’s very dangerous when the light turns green because I cannot go anywhere.
The automatic engine shut off failed. Normally when stopped the engine shuts off and restarts when pressing the gas. It did not do that and instead turned the vehicle completely off. I was waiting for traffic at an intersection to make a left hand turn when my vehicles engine shut off. Interior lights flashed and alarm sounded. Dashboard said engine was off and to press break firmly to restart. It did not work. Also had a power steering warning. I had to put the car in park and restart the vehicle. In the mean time the light had turned red and I was in the middle of the intersection at night, in the rain with a stalled vehicle that I bought last week and has less than 500 miles. A car nearly hit us as I put my hazard lights on and restarted the vehicle. My kids were in the car, it put not only ourselves in danger but also other vehicles on the road. I have not been able to reproduce the incident but it is at the dealership now. There were no symptoms of the incident prior to. I just went to turn and the car went nuts with lights and warnings and the engine was completely off and had to be restarted… in the middle of a busy intersection. I see several other complaints and even videos where it did the exact same thing. This is for sure a safety issue.
While at the red light the car cut completely off. The steering wheel locked and wouldn’t restart. The engine light came on and it said “power steering low”. I had just left the dealership. The car only had 21 miles on it. Traffic had to go around me and it was very scary being stuck not able to move.
This is the second time I am reporting this issues. This time I got a video of it. On Feb 2, I was, again, at a red light and a buzzing alarm started going off with the error showing as “engine stopped. Steering power low. ” then it would flicker to show “engine stopped. Press brake firmly to restart. ” at the top it said “ignition on”. When it does this I can’t drive the vehicle. I have to put it in park and then restart the vehicle from the start/stop button.
This is a new Corolla cross 2023 fwd car just bought one month only. It keeps stalling out during stop at traffic light on the road, the dashboard showed “ignition on”, “steering power low”, “engine check signal”, warning beeps and then the car was locked. This happened 5 times within 2 weeks. This is a safety issue. First time (01/28/2023) getting towed car back to Toyota dealership, the technician quality checked and no code was found. They just changed the battery and gave back to me. However, 3 days later, vehicle’s engine was stopped and same situation happened again. Now the vehicle sent back to dealership again and wait for further investigation. This is a repeat problem!! safety issue!!.
I was stopped at a light and the check engine light came on, warning sounds and low steering power light flashed. Car would not move. I was able to put the car in park and turn off and back on and was able to proceed. Dealer found no error codes or defects when I took it to the dealership. They are keeping it for more diagnostics.
I was pulling up to a stoplight and the eps electrical power steering light came on and warning of power loss to steering wheel, low engine power and auto start stop indicator light was also illuminated. I put the car in park turned the car off and back on and then the system reset and I was able to drive normally. This is a brand new car that I purchased Monday (2 days ago).
I was parked at a red light. After maybe 30 seconds of my foot on the break an error message came up saying "ignition power steering low, press brake firmly to restart. " the message was flashing and with all the commotion I didn't get to see what the rest of the message read. There was also a buzzer sound going off for the entire duration. The car engine was off, the steering locked, and pressing the break did nothing. I had to shift to p and then restart the car. [what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?] yes, my car will be available for inspection. [how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?] the light turned green and I was in the middle lane. I had no way of pulling over. [has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?] no, I will be taking it to the dealer ASAP. [has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?] no. [were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?] no, there were no messages or any indication that there was an issue.
I had stopped at a red like like normal and when I attempted to release the brake to move forward, the engine turned off and displayed a warning sign on the dashboard "engine steering low". I was driving on the furthest left lane of two and because there were other cars behind me I continued to attempt to restart the vehicle by shifting to park and then pressing the ignition auto start until finally on the third try the engine turned on and I could drive on. I pulled over a parking lot but I could not get the the problem to repeat itself. This car had the "start & stop system" activated when this issue occurred, and it happened at odometer mile 104. I had a different Toyota model with this feature and it was not once a problem.
