Component: visibility / sun visor vehicle: 2023 Toyota Corolla both the driver-side and passenger-side sun visors in my 2023 Toyota Corolla have failed within approximately two years of normal use. The visors no longer remain in their intended position and instead fall downward unexpectedly. When this occurs, the visor drops directly into the driver’s field of vision, creating a significant safety hazard by obstructing forward visibility while driving. This condition can happen without warning and requires the driver to physically move the visor out of the way, causing distraction and increasing the risk of an accident. The vehicle has not been modified, damaged, or subjected to abnormal conditions. The visors were used only as intended. Sun exposure is a normal and expected condition for this component, and failure under these circumstances indicates a potential defect in materials or workmanship. Both visors failing in the same manner suggests a systemic issue rather than isolated wear and tear. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealership, where I was initially told the repair would be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. However, the claim was later denied and classified as “wear and tear” due to sun exposure. Given the function of sun visors, this explanation is not reasonable. This issue presents an ongoing safety concern due to impaired driver visibility. I am submitting this complaint so that this defect can be reviewed and tracked for potential broader impact.
7 months ago when my car had 56k miles my transmission was bad and they replaced but now is giving problems again I took it to lia Toyota of rockland and they didn’t do anything about it, that the transmission is ok, but bad smell is coming out of the transmission and is hard to shift and it gives like hard pull when it changes into gear and u can hear the clunky sound of the transmission and it has only run for 19k miles and it has been only 7 months since they replaced.
My Toyota, the 12. 3-inch display screen fails to turn on when I start the vehicles or could unexpectedly shut down while driving.
I was at an intersection, and the engine suddenly stopped for no apparent reason. This message shows up on dashboard: steering power low. It asked me to put it on park and turn the engine back on. Very dangerous.
I am experiencing persistent and unresolved issues with the infotainment and display system in my Toyota Corolla, primarily involving apple carplay overriding the driver display. Even when I manually disable the setting that allows carplay/navigation to take over the display behind the steering wheel, the system does not retain this setting. After turning the car off and restarting it, the navigation/map interface reappears and overrides the driver display again. This behavior is extremely distracting while driving and interferes with my ability to safely view normal vehicle information. It has created multiple situations where I felt at risk of a collision due to unexpected display changes and distraction. In addition, there are ongoing system malfunctions including: •volume controls becoming unresponsive (the slider does not adjust sound), requiring the system to be restarted to function again. •intermittent failure of the phone connection/charging port, where the device does not connect properly to the system. A prior software update temporarily addressed one issue, but the core problems persist. I have been attempting to resolve this through ardmore Toyota dealership in PA for approximately one year without a meaningful fix or access to a qualified technician. This appears to be a recurring software or system defect that affects driver attention and vehicle operation. I am concerned this creates a significant safety risk for myself and others on the road. No one has taken me seriously even after I’ve gone to several Toyota dealerships over and over and I explained my concerns and they promise that I’ll be on a list of waitlist to be seen by a field tech technician however that has never happened and they are refusing to provide assistance.
While driving my vehicle southbound on [xxx] in the simpsonville/fountain inn area of south carolina, my vehicle suffered some sort of catastrophic failure while driving and became completely engulfed in flames. The vehicle was a total loss. The vehicle had been serviced a little over a month prior to this incident happening. The fire department took a report for the fire. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
When idling my car makes a rattling sound and vibrates and oil smells like fuel only got 12k on it when I bought it which I just bought it not even a month ago used.
The Toyota Corolla le screen goes blank and does not show any information. When the screen does work, the map malfunctions and shows the vehicle and directions in various bodies of water and displays unsafe routes. The car is available for inspection upon request. You are unable to drive hands free which increases the risk of distracted driving. Map routes to unsafe areas which can make a driver drive into areas that are unsafe to themselves and endanger other motorists and pedestrians. By the Toyota dealership, yes. They stated there was no recall for it and that they could not recreate the issues. No.
We were driving on [xxx] near norcross, GA about 200 ft from exit [xxx] at a constant speed of around 70 mph, when suddenly the vehicle displayed 'system malfunction' and started veering on its own and the brakes wouldn't work. It kept veering to the right and crashed into a vehicle 2 lanes away and rebounded back to the original lane and came to a halt with a message displayed 'shifting to p'. The malfunction and loss of control, along with the brakes not functioning those few seconds/minutes put our lives and others' on the road at risk. The vehicle is available for inspection. The vehicle was towed on the day of the accident and then taken into a Toyota dealership and is currently there. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. Toyota sent a third-party inspector to gather data from the vehicle but that turned out to be merely the crash data up to 5 seconds prior by which time the malfunction had already occurred and the vehicle speed was down from 70mph to 31mph. The incident occurred on Thursday, [xxx]. We do not feel safe driving that vehicle again. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On10/19/2024, the driver was driving down a road that was coming down from a slope and the road curves to the left. As the driver was braking to decrease the speed down to 30mph or below (she was going around 35mph from what she remembers) and turning the steering wheel left, all the curtain air bags deployed, the seatbelt locked and she was unable to turn the steering wheel. She couldn't see due to the airbags and the seatbelt locking her back so when she felt/heard scraping on the right she feared she was going to crash into trees so she yanked as hard as possible to the left and the car then stopped. She remembers that the screen flashed something like an sos but then it faded. Bystanders helped her out of the car as she was still in the car (she was very shaken) and they tried to put the car in neutral as it was blocking the road to push it but they were unsuccessful as the wheels had locked. The police and a tow truck was called by a bystander. Other than a small scrape on the right fender of the bumper, there was no damage to the car. Nothing was in the road. The bystanders asked her if she had a stroke or some medical issue since there was no collision, no damage notable on the car and the car just stopped on the road. Inside all the curtain bags are deployed. The police officer and the tow truck driver thought that the sensor for rolling might have gotten triggered but there was nothing that they could see that would have triggered it. Toyota was contacted and the insurance company was unsure if this was considered a collision. Toyota wanted to investigate the car themselves and we signed a letter giving them permission to download data and information from the car. We were told they would be sending someone to physically look at the car.
When using built in carplay navigation the gps will start drifting 10-20 feet from the highway into field or other highways causing it to reroute constantly. When phone is disconnected from carplay during the gps drifting current location will go back to right location on the phone. We tried connecting different phone to Corolla all had the same issues. My other two cars don’t have this issue using the phones. Dealers won’t address the issue.
Description of problem/issue: dear reader: I recently purchased a new (certified preowned) vehicle and ever since then I have been experiencing some concerns with its handling on the road. This letter seeks to communicate this matter to the proper establishment for some possible recourse. On level roads while the steering wheel is centered straight up (near/over 40mph), the car tends to automatically glide to the left of the lane or coast quickly to the right and won’t stay centered in the lane very long without driver input to steer the car back to the center of the lane. Then when re-centering the car it roams in the other direction, and so forth (an oscillating effect). The issue is that the car diverts from the center of the lane and to maintain the center of the lane the driver has to constantly work at pulling the vehicle back to center. This is not the type of driving performance that I would expect on a new or certified new vehicle. It is both a nuisance and a hazard having to constantly steer the vehicle to center up in the lane. The car’s auto lane assist and departure assist and auto steering assist features are turned off during this time. And even when all these driver assist features are turned back on the drifting/pulling pattern is quite pronounced or seems to be compensating in my opinion. A google search of the term “2023 Toyota Corolla pulls to both sides” produces some great results as to the possible cause and effect. I have never driven a vehicle that diverts so quickly from its own lane so shortly after the driver’s hand is removed from the steering wheel. Nevertheless, the issues that I pointed out remains very alarming and nerve-racking for me! for safety reasons I’m still not pleased with how the car handles on the road. I wonder if there are any safety recalls, current or pending, concerning any of the steering or alignment components/features that would help resolve this problem?.
It said power steering low and it shut off on me.
Problem with driver airbag poses a serious risk to life. Toyota does not have a repair for it.
This is the 3rd time it’s happened. It seems to happen after it’s rained and it’s wet and humid outside. I was at a red light waiting for it to change. The car starts making a buzzer noise and shows “ignition on” with “engine stopped power steering low” and flashes to “press break firmly to restart. ” pressing the break does nothing and I cannot move the vehicle at all. This whole time the engine is off and I have to go into park to restart the car by pressing the start/stop button. It’s very dangerous when the light turns green because I cannot go anywhere.
My 2023 Corolla cross awd remains at the dealership due to the safety issue of it turning off, as everyone else is complaining / reporting. My concern is when I type 2023 Toyota Corolla cross awd into the NHTSA website it says there are zero complaints which leads consumers to believe this is a safe vehicle. However, there are multiple of the same complaints but they are being filed under the 2023 Toyota Corolla 4d fwd?.
Headlights on the left side especially have dark shadows. I took it back to dealership to get adjusted. To my surprise they layed a towel over my lights and said yes they could see dark lines but there were no way to correct the dark shadows, that's the way the 2023 Corollas were designed. I've seen videos on you tube showing the problem on a 2022 Corolla. To me it's a safety hazard. Driving in the city at night is very upsetting when turning left because it appears like something is there because of the dark lines, it's so bad my wife will not drive the car at night. If I had know the lights were this bad I never would have bought the car. I wish I could sell this car without taking a $5000. 00 loss. It also has a new style radio or intertainment system ( in a word terrible) no buttons except for one - on- off and volume up and down . To listen to the radio you have to go through two to three menus at lease you have to take your eyes off the road for long periods of time. It's the worst radio when navigating . I can't believe Toyota made a car like this Corolla. I always thought Toyota made the best cars up until now. Next year I plan on trading it in and getting a Honda civic. I'll never buy another Toyota.
I think it’s the start/stop system or battery that gave me issue. I stopped at a red light and triggered auto-stop and waited for the red light for quite a while. Suddenly the car beeped and the screen popped with a message ‘engine stopped. Steering power low. Press brake firmly to restart’. I panicked and tried as it suggested, but it didn’t work. Then I put the gear in park and pressed the button to turn off the car, and then restarted as usual, it worked. This problem showed up for the first time 8 days after I bought it. Additional information includes that today was the first time I added gas since I bought it, and added to full fuel. The gas was from shell. It was in the afternoon and sunny. It rained from 4pm when I used the car later and to 8pm when I used the car again. The issue occurred around 8pm. If the car suddenly dies when I drive on the highway, it’ll put my and people in car in danger for sure. I’m planning to get my battery checked tomorrow in o’reilly and contact my dealership on Monday.
I was parked at a red light. After maybe 30 seconds of my foot on the break an error message came up saying "ignition power steering low, press brake firmly to restart. " the message was flashing and with all the commotion I didn't get to see what the rest of the message read. There was also a buzzer sound going off for the entire duration. The car engine was off, the steering locked, and pressing the break did nothing. I had to shift to p and then restart the car. [what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?] yes, my car will be available for inspection. [how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?] the light turned green and I was in the middle lane. I had no way of pulling over. [has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?] no, I will be taking it to the dealer ASAP. [has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?] no. [were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?] no, there were no messages or any indication that there was an issue.
I have been experiencing an issue with the auto stop/start function that kicks in when you brake. It's inconsistent, but sometimes when I am at an intersection or waiting to turn out onto a road it malfunctions. Initially it works as intended and turns off my engine when I brake. Then if I remain stopped for a bit, instead of restarting the engine I hear an alarm sound and the dash screen says "engine stopped. Press brake firmly to restart" and shows the check engine light and the low power steering warning lights - then actually states "engine stopped" and "steering power low". When I press the brake firmly - all the way to the floor in fact, nothing happens. I have to throw my car into park and restart it. This is worrisome when I am at a busy intersection or waiting to pull out onto a road. Nobody wants their car dying on them when they are trying to work with the flow of traffic. The issue seems to happen typically at times where I have not been driving very long and am doing in-town driving with stops. I caught it on video once and it was about 2. 5 minutes into my drive. If I leave the auto stop/start on, it will continue to do this at stops - so it's not just once per drive. Furthermore, the feature is not one that you can have "off" by default. I cannot find any setting to have it not turn on when the car starts - I have to turn it off using the button near the gear shift. If I am driving for a long time, it will turn itself back on. It's unnerving to have a feature that is malfunctioning that you can't turn off completely, that turns itself back on. I drive my car daily and purchased on 12/31/2022, so the battery and systems should be functioning. I have experienced this 1/8/2023 1/13/2023 1/17/2023 (caught on video) took to shop 1/14/23, they could not replicate. Took back 1/26/23 with video, they could not replicate. No solution found.
