March 24, 2010, I started my car from dewdney elementary school, mission, bc parking lot heading home in abbotsford, bc. About 15 minutes on highway 11 heading abbotsford direction, I found that I could not brake the car to stop. Luckily, I managed to stop. Then I saw smoke came out from the back wheels, and the emergency brake lever was high up, which it had not been released before I started to drive. I was scared and called the local Toyota dealer, sunrise Toyota in abbotsford to tow the car. The next morning, the staff at the dealership called me that I had to pay about $1200. 00 to fix the car myself as the extended warranty did not cover it due the fault I made myself. They claimed that I should have not unreleased the emergency brake, which why it burned the whole braking system. This was the second time that I forgot to release the emergency hand brake before I drove. The first time happened two and a half years ago that I realized that the emergency brake was not released immediately, as I felt the car was difficult to move. My concern is that I did not feel any difficulty or restriction to move the car when the emergency brake was not released this time, as I did not remember if the red light of the emergency brake was on. Unfortunately, the car moved smoothly even the emergency brake was up high. That was why I did not realize the emergency brake was not released. My car is only six years old, with 80,000km, the emergency brake was supposed to be working properly. I thought that I was going to die without being able to stop the car when I exited the highway, as the braking system was burning off with the emergency brake not being released. It is not a reasonable time frame for an emergency brake to stop function in five or six years. In other words, Toyota inc. Should have warned all the drivers who drive Toyota Corolla 2004 model to replace the emergency brakes of their cars in five or six years, otherwise they will risk their lives.

Toyota 2010 Corolla brake system failed. The emergency brake went on , while I was driving without me doing anything. The odometer stopped working, brake, check-engine, panic mode and airbag system lights went on. The failure has occurred twice already, first starting as a brake failure, then almost leading to the accident when everything failed at once. Almost got into an accident and I couldn't accelerate in the car. I took the car to the dealership and they gave me run around, they still don't know how to fix it or what's wrong with it. This car is beyond unsafe to drive, luckily it didn't lead to an accident and injuries both to me and other drivers.

My car is a 2009 Toyota Corolla which is on the recall list. I had gone to them two day before the actual recall, because each time I would encounter a down slope or go down a hill, my car would sound like it was idling up and grinding as if it wanted to take off. It had been service a week before this happened; however, the sound of my brakes scared me so I took it back in twice. They still insisted nothing was wrong with it. Then, I took it back the next day after the recall, and I was treated very rudely by the service people as well as the service manager. Nothing has been done since then. I drive it daily with a prayer, because I was told that if my VIN number begin with a "j" it is not on the recall list. However, I am very afraid or paranoid about driving it daily and especially on rainy days. When it rains my brakes squeak and sound as if they or letting out air or a balloon being rubbed against your hand. I have called several times and received no response. I have never had any problems with universal Toyota until now. I was a faithful customer who has had six Toyota cars that I thoroughly enjoyed, but this situation has cause me to consider other options. I am unsure of the actual date, but it was definitely the day after the recall.

I have a 2007 Toyota Corolla with 55k miles that one of the rear wheels locked up an would not rotate. The car could not be moved as the passenger rear wheel became locked. After towing to the dealership, they removed the rear brake drums and cleaned dust and rust from inside the drums. Luckily the rear brakes did not become "stuck" on a roadway where there was traffic.

Please I need somebody to help me with my case with Toyota. I had an accident back to July in my Toyota Corolla 2009. I hit someone house with my Toyota because (accelerator and pedal were stuck and I lost the control of the car. I didn't know what went wrong not only I'm a woman and I don't know anything about "mechanic, pedal . . . Etc. When police came I tried to explain to them what cause the accident they told me that if I don't stop lying I can end up to jail. So the house owner sued me I went to a lot of procedure of lawsuit. I never knew that could happened to me. Three days after court, I received the recall letter from Toyota. I drove my car to Toyota I found out my car has 2 recalls ( accelerator and pedal). Please help me. At least Toyota can pay the woman that sued me and my medical expenses.
The first time I experienced problems with my brakes occurred on April 28th, 2007. I was exiting a parking lot that had a downward slope and as I merged onto the main road, I stepped on my brakes but my car would not stop. I was forced to use the emergency brakes, but even then, the vehicle did not come to a complete stop for another 10 yards. On may 2nd, 2007, I took the vehicle to be checked at hollywood Toyota in los angeles, CA. The invoice notes state that the causes for the brake problems on this particular occasion were that the brake pedal was spongy and the brakes were out of adjustment. For the vehicle being brand new and me being the first owner, I find it rather disturbing that these brake problems had already become an issue after only one month of ownership. On March 24th, 2009, another significant braking incident happened. As I entered the driveway of my home, I stepped on the accelerator to go up the driveway's incline and then tapped on my brakes. When I tapped on the brakes the vehicle would not stop. I pulled on the emergency brakes but it still did not stop. I was forced to steer my vehicle in the direction of my house in order for the vehicle to hopefully stop with the impact. The front drivers side of the vehicle broke through a wooden fence surrounding my front garden before the vehicle hit the corner of my house and finally came to a halt. The most serious braking failure incident occurred on June 25th, 2009 in the kaiser sunset parking structure. I put the car in reverse to pull out of my parking spot. I then shifted to drive while applying my brakes. Since the structure was at an incline the vehicle gained velocity as I drove down to the lower levels to exit. I pressed on my brakes but it did not work. I then pulled on the emergency brakes but the vehicle still would not stop. I was forced to hit the exit cross bar so that the impact would stop my vehicle from moving.
On January 7, 2006 at about 2:30 a. M. My daughter, andrea d. Chiu drove back home to san mateo from santa cruz in a Toyota Corolla le of 2003 with a California license plate number 4zic372 and VIN number 1nxbr38e33z085859. As she drove on highway 17 near san jose she tried to step on the foot brake to maintain safety control at the speed limit of 35 miles per hour while going down the winding slope. However the car seemed to have no brake and started spinning with the left side of the front first hit the central concrete divider then the tail also hit the divider and the car finally stopped. No third party was injured and no property was damaged with the exception that my daughter got some bruises on her left thigh and the car ended up with a total loss. My daughter then unbuckled herself from the car seat and called the police with her cell phone through which she was advised to call a tow truck. When the tow truck arrived at the scene the driver said to my daughter that the car got no brake and he had to put additional chains and stoppers to secure the car while towing. Surprisingly none of the airbags in the car was deployed in the accident. According to my records, the car was fully serviced by the dealer, Toyota 101 in redwood city just a couple of months ago and as recent as a week ago that I had the car's engine belt changed also by Toyota 101 before the accident occurred. In view of the foregoing I suspect that there must be some defect in the car safety system including the airbags and foot brake. I and my insurance adjuster tried to contact the manager of Toyota 101 by phone for numerous times but to no avail. I sincerely hope that your department can help and bring this matter to the attention of Toyota 101 who should be responsible for such an incident due to the defect.

I noticed that Toyota only recall 2009/2010 Corolla. But my Corolla had fatal problem on 2001 model, and crashed on 2004/03. On highway 680 on 03/19/2004, dove as normal speed. The cars in front of me were far away, maybe about 200 meters. There is no car was closely aside of my lane. I didn't step brake or try change lane, just kept the lane and speed as normal. Suddenly, the steering wheel out of control. It rushed to right, then left, then right, left, I tried very hard but couldn't control the steering. At the first second when I noticed the car went wrong direction, I stepped the brake as hard as I could, no use. Steering and brake were out of control. The car hit the barrier wall with high speed, rolling over and over. Milpitas or san jose chp was on site, and had a accident report. The car was total damaged, my head got hit and start bleeding inside but didn't check it out after accident. 2 months later I had a head surgery to stop the bleeding inside and took out a big chunk of blood. After years, till today, I am still suffered by the head wounds/hit. But the recall is only for 2009/2010 model, leave so many drivers still in dangerous situation.
