36 Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 07/06/2021

The rear fuel tank strap broke due to corrosion and it was retained. The fuel tank was spotted hanging lower than normal after driving on a long trip on a vacation. I removed the tank shield and have removed the vehicle from service until new tank straps arrive. No police or insurance have been contacted. There was no warning of this failure or evidence this failure was imminent.

37 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 04/29/2021

This is a 2007 vehicle I have owned since 2009. One of the two fuel tank straps broke in April of 2021. This left one strap holding the tank in place. This happened while driving allowing the tank to drag on ground. I stopped before it became a more serious problem. The strap was completely rusted through. Both straps were replaced. The remaining strap had serious rust as well.

41 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/20/2021

I was hauling a hitch hauler in my hitch which was carrying a portable fish house that weighed approximately 80 lb. As I was leaving the parking lot, I heard a loud clunk noise in which when I look back the hitch hauler and my fish house were laying on the road. The vehicle behind me had to swerve out of the way. I had to haul the fish house to the side of the road and as I was inspecting my vehicle realized the hitch and the frame were cracked and not usable. I had to leave my equipment there because I had no way of hauling it back. I brought the truck to an auto body repair shop and there he told me that I have extensive damage and my frame was rotten. I paid him to repair the damage to the best of his ability. He said that the frame was too bad and that I would have to bring it to another specialist. Since then the front body mounts have rotted off.

42 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 02/03/2021

2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser has the same rot problems as the tacoma and sequoia. . . There are reports all over the USA and Toyota has still not issued a recall on rotting frames. I can't even have my vehicle towed it is so decomposed. I am fortunate not to have been killed. I contacted Toyota and they want me to call them? how about keeping this information in writing maybe for a future lawsuit.

43 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

Our 2007n Toyota fj only has 135, 000 miles on it and runs well. We love the vehicle and have a severely rusted out frame. The truck has been adequately maintained but is now unsafe to drive. There are several large areas of rusted frame that are gone, motor mounts have fallen off the frame, the rear axle is barely hanging on because the rear frame is brittle. On the passenger side almost 3 feet of frame is gone from the underside of the vehicle. There is very little metal left to weld to making repairs not possible. Toyota corperate refuses to assist us and we are stuck with a vehicle that is near total failure.

44 Equipment problem of the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

Single Toyota 2010 Fj Cruiser owner. Over the last 10/11 have been really diligent taking care of my truck, unfortunately due to what seems very poor quality steel or treatment of the frame and some parts when was build by Toyota, it has cause severe rust/rotten issue leading not only to significant safety concerns (broken gas tank straps and fuel lines) but also a significant amount of money spend treating the frame and part to prevent further corrosion that could\will eventually lead to complete failure.

45 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 12/04/2020

Took the vehicle in for maintenance at a service center. The mechanic expressed his concern with the amount of rust on the frame on the passenger side and told me that it will soon be a safety concern. He showed me by pulling chunks off of frame with his fingers. The vehicle now sits in the garage.

50 Equipment problem of the 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

The rear gas tank strap snapped on the vehicle (the strap side facing to the outside of the vehicle). The strap failed due to rust. The strap must have snapped when I hit a bump in the road. However, I did not know that the strap had failed until I happened to be standing behind the vehicle one day and noticed the tank sagging. Therefore, I do not know how many days that I had been driving around with the tank hanging, supported only by the front strap. But I think that possibly I noticed the failure within one day of the failure. The red strap in the photo is my temporary support until I can have the straps replaced.

51 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 08/25/2020

Frame of the vehicle is having whole spots and unsafe the drive the vehicle. I don't know why there is no recall in this vehicle. Even there is frame recalls for the same year and model cars. Why not my car doesn't have recalls. I want to get into bottom of this.

52 Equipment problem of the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser

53 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 06/06/2020

The entire frame is badly rusted to the point of being unsafe. The car has been regularly washed and well maintained. All other components are in great working order, but the car now need extensive frame repairs to remain road worthy. In addition, the straps holding the fuel tank in place rusted through and nearly caused the tank to fall out of the car.

54 Equipment problem of the 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 03/09/2020

I purchased this low mileage Toyota Fj Cruiser in March of 2020 from a used car dealership in washington state. The body and interior are in exceptional condition, however however upon post purchase inspection, there is extensive frame corrosion including but not limited to welded joints, frame cross members, and attachment points for the front double wishbone suspension. The corrosion is so severe, it can be picked off of the frame in large chunks using a finger. This level of corrosion is abnormal, leading me to believe it is a manufacturing defect. In addition, I believe this corrosion compromises the vehicle's structural integrity in the event of a collision.

55 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 03/06/2020

Have owned the vehicle for over 4 years and rust on frame has gotten progressively worst. Vehicle has become unsafe to drive due to rear suspension likely to collapse due to holes in frame. Dangerous to drive and if vehicle where to be in an accident the whole structure could collapse. Very unhappy with Toyota experience.

60 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

The frame of my 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser is rusting uncontrollably. It was "descaled" and sprayed with protecting fluid. The descaling revealed significant frame rust. My passenger rear shock mount has rusted completely and the shock has become free from the frame. I have yet to get an accurate estimate of the damage but will soon.

64 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/19/2019

While upgrading to steel bumpers from the flimsy plastic crap most vehicles come with these days, found significant frame rot. Somehow the Fj Cruiser is not part of the previous Toyota recalls. I can assure you they're at least as susceptible as the tacomas et al. I'm now on the hunt for an affordable replacement frame, which seems to be merely a pipe dream. I love this vehicle and will do whatever it takes to repair it but, come on Toyota. This is not what the market expects from you!.

65 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 10/02/2019

Frame is rotting away just as the tacoma frames did in this time frame of model year. Afraid the vehicle will soon be unfit to drive due to safety concerns. Gas tank straps are also rotting from under the vehicle. This has come to light when I was driving down a city street and my gas tank strap broke causing the take to drop from the bottom of the vehicle.

70 Equipment problem of the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

Excessive rust of the frame. Have found multiple holes in structural areas such as the transmission cross member welds meeting the frame. Failure of the frame coating all over. Frame rot from the inside causing holes from the inside out. Also rusting from areas such as control arms, rear end links, and differential mounts. Will provide more pictures when I have the availability to do so.
