Frame is severely rusting. We took to Toyota dealer to get a loose skid plate attached, and mechanic told us that they had to remove it because "there was nothing left to attach to as the frame has rusted away. The frame, attachment points, supports, axles and suspension pieces are extremely rusty. We were advised by mechanic to dispose of the car because it would soon be undriveable. 98000 mile, 9 year old, babied, dealer maintained car.

Severe frame rust! I poked my finger through the passenger side frame this morning. Most all screws, mounting brackets etc are all rusted. Other components like the rear diff, oil pan etc are all covered in rust.

Frame has severe structural rot at the lower control arm mount and left and right upper control arm mounts at the frame. And additional frame rust is the rear axle housing has rusted to the point of weeping oil. This is what I was told when I had it looked at. This fj is no longer able to be driven at this point. It was not in an accident, the frame is just rusting at an alarming rate compared to other Toyotas I have owned.
Rust to the frame of the car not consummate with the age of the vehicle, rust to the straps that secure the fuel tank. Points that affix the brake lines to the vehicle frame have rusted to the point they're no longer affixed to the frame. The rate at which rust gestates on this vehicle (and I am much more attentive than the typical consumer) is unsafe and will continue to create unsafe conditions as these vehicles rapidly deteriorate. The rust prevention methods used by the factory are entirely inadequate.

The frame has rusted at all major welds and along the frame components. Very little metal is left to hold the rear suspension to the frame mounts of the car. A Toyota bumper hitch failed while driving with a trailer attached because therear crossmember rusted through. The rear gas tank straps also rusted through and have been replaced. Gas tank was hanging by one strap.
Toyota's have been having rust issues with frames. A government mandated fix for tundras and tacomas have been approved, but not for Fj Cruisers, even though it's a similar model. I need to have my frame rust issues fixed in order to pass inspection.
Excessive rust on frame, chassis, tie rod ends and all other metal parts, although car is maintened properly, only 40k miles, garage parking, no off-road usage and no salt exposed.

This vehicle started to develope rust immediately after purchase. The vehicle is a 2008 and is scary rusty on the frame and other components. An abnormal amount of rust compared to other 2008 era vehicles. Eventually one of these faulty frames are going to break in a high speed scenario and serious injury or death will occur. My otherwise perfect Fj Cruiser only has 35000 miles on it and sat in storage for the winter of 2016 and 2017.

Factory receiver on frame dropped coming to a stop while towing a trailer due to frame rust/corrosion.
Frame seems to be rusting quick. Air conditioning water drain and run off hits frame and rusts in that spot.
General personal use. Frame is rusting at an alarming rate. I feel it is crucial for me to get the existing rust removed and the frame protected if I want this vehicle to last me a reasonable amount of years without any structural failures. It has a little over 100k miles on it.

I am the third owner of a 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser, this vehicle has major rust overtaking the frame and all suspension parts and mounts, even the inside of the frame is rusting out. This seems to be a regular issue. I am very concerned I am going to have suspension parts break off while I'm driving, I have already had to replace the fuel tank straps that rusted in half while driving doen the highway.
Severe rust on the frame and undercarriage has rendered the vehicle completely undriveable.
The frame is extremely rusty on all of the Fj Cruisers, just like the tacoma and sequoia. There is no paint or undercoating applied on the inside of these frames so they rust from the inside out.
Purchased a 2007 Fj Cruiser used and discovered the frame is rusting and deteriorating at an alarming pace. The damage is extensive and has obviously been ongoing for quite sometime.
Frame is rusted underneath. Car looks and drives perfectly. I crawled under and the entire frame is rusted. I purchased from a dealer two weeks ago. It had 2 owners and less than 100000 miles.
The entire frame is badly rusted to the point of being unsafe. The car has been regularly washed and well maintained. All other components are in great working order, but the car now need extensive frame repairs to remain road worthy. In addition, the straps holding the fuel tank in place rusted through and nearly caused the tank to fall out of the car.
Canadian vehicle, frame is rusted with many brackets and mounts beginning to fail including fuel line guides, gas tank straps, skid plates and mounts, sub frames becoming flimsy was driving down a bumpy road and the rear gas tank strap broke dropping the tank to the ground disconnecting the fuel pump and leaving the vehicle inoperable.
Catastrophic frame failure from delamination and rust holes in frame and gas tank straps, and suspension components.

Sever rusting of frame, break and suspension components and brackets. This 2008 Toyota Fj Cruiser is quickly becoming a safety hazard on the roads. I have a 92 sabb and a 93 vw that don't have have the rust issues this Toyota has. Toyota should have recalled the Fj Cruisers for faulty frames and undercarriage long ago.
Frame and parts badly rusted. Pieces falling off. Brake lines now rusting. Frame badly rusted as well. Internal fuel tank issues with corrosion.
Excessive amount of rust for mileage of car 156k as of writing frame is flaking/scaling even after application of por-15 to try and salvage the frame to make it last a while longer. Replacement of tank straps at 120k due to failure from rust. Car will become unsafe to drive in a short period this seems to be a very common issue with this frame/year area as Toyota already has replaced the tacoma frames that were rusting/rotting the same way.
The vehicle has a severely rusty frame. Rest of the fj body is mint with a total of 80k miles. The rear cross section where the gem hitch bolts to is particularly bad and has hole. The hitch itself is also sitting a little crooked which I believe is due to the poor structural integrity of the cross bar. Towing is out of the question at this point but more importantly, I am very worried what might happen in an event I get rear ended.
Horrible frame rust. Rusty cross members that support engine and transmission. Rusty body and suspension mounts that attach to frame. All the weld beads on the frame are rusted inside and out.

Frame has a lot of rust. The straps to hold the gas tank broke due to rusting. Rear bumper frame has also rusted.
On Dec 30, 2019 I took my 2007 Fj Cruiser in for regular maintenance and shortly after I dropped it off, I was contacted by the dealership and asked to come back. They wanted to show me the bottom of the vehicle because they said it was no longer safe to drive. I went back to the dealership and the mechanic showed me that the frame of my fj was completely rusted through with multiple holes in right side of the frame - some holes measuring over 5 inches in length. It crumbled when touched. I was told that the rest of the vehicle was in perfect condition but it was no longer safe to drive because of the condition of the frame. I have found out since, that this is a known issue with the 2007 Fj Cruiser models but Toyota has yet to recall the frames. I've also found out that they have recalled other models due to prematurely rusted out frames, but the fj's have not been included in those recalls. I was stuck in toronto unable to drive back to NY, so my family incurred massive unexpected costs to get home, and work & school were missed because of this situation. I've been told it will cost me approx $15 - 20k to get my truck repaired, but I believe that cost is Toyota's responsibility. In the meantime it's unsafe to drive so I'm without a vehicle making my life and the life of my family more difficult seeing as it's our only vehicle. . . And it's stuck across the border in toronto, canada. I hope Toyota recalls the 2007 Fj Cruiser model frames ASAP - I've learned that there are many other fj owners across north America who are dealing with this issue and are very unhappy with how Toyota is dealing with it (or I should say seemingly not dealing with it). I don't feel my otherwise perfect vehicle should become an oversized paper weight when Toyota has dealt with similar issues in other models - the solution is pretty clear.
The frame of my 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser is rusting uncontrollably. It was "descaled" and sprayed with protecting fluid. The descaling revealed significant frame rust. My passenger rear shock mount has rusted completely and the shock has become free from the frame. I have yet to get an accurate estimate of the damage but will soon.
Frame rusted way too early in its life time.
Own a 2010 Toyota Fj Cruiser. The frame is covered in rust. I have researched this and know this is an on going problem with these vehicles. Toyota should be doing something about this. We found even more rust recently once we had a change to get under the vehicle. No car I have owned at this much rust on it in such a short time.
Bought my fj new in 2007. When I did I asked if they had rusty jones or undercoating and was told with the new alloys I didnt need it. 3 weeks ago I was having my mechanic check the brakes and he called me down to show me a break in the frame connecting to the body. Thankfully he found it because I was supposed to go to boston the next day. The truck only has 139,000 miles on it and the frame is completely rusted out so its not safe to drive. I brought it to the dealer I purchased it from and 2 reps came down from nh to look at who basically told me I had a good ride with it and they would do nothing. I then called Toyota cec and was told the same. I brought to a welder who specializes in this type of work and was told 5000+ in labor alone and thats without seeing under the gas tank so he said it wouldnt be worth it as he banged of the rust in other spots and there was no metal to weld to left. Brake and fuel lines are swelled from the rusty metal tubing. I consider myself lucky as I often take my grandkids in the fj. So now im left with my other fj that I bought new in 2008 which is ok underneath. The issue is with all the 2007 fj frames like their tundras and tacomas. I have opened a case with Toyota but there are so many there should be a recall as these are unsafe to drive. The body is ready to collapse on the frame. I was told privately that Toyota chooses to ignore the issue as they no longer make the fjs but still sell tacomas and tundras. ## VIN passed ## 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser ##.
My gas tank straps completely rusted off leaving the gas tank hanging down below the frame and in extreme compromised unsafe position. Multiple areas of frame rust completely through not supported by either end.
Frame is rusting out- truck only has 142k on it. Told today it will probably fail inspection next year as it barely passed today. This is a huge safety concern and affects the structural integrity of the vehicle Toyota has settled with tacoma, tundra owners but ignores issue with fj.
My frame has rusted tremendously to what I feel is a dangerous degree. There are holes through some frame rails and also some near the suspension mounting points. My fuel tank straps rusted to the point one rusted through and broke, the fuel tank was then hanging down close to the ground. Not many miles have been driven per year on this vehicle.
I came back from a trip from florida driving and a wheel bearing went bad and I took it to a mechanic when I got back and he showed me more frame rust that connects to the lower control arm.
Frame and gas strap rust. Possible safety hazard with rusting. Needs to be addressed with Toyota.
