Once vehicle is cruising on highway at speeds between 55-70mph, steering wheel shakes uncontrollably. Have had the tires swapped, rotated and balanced at different business and still have same issue. Dealership says everything is fine. Did a test drive with them and it shook and still said everything was fine.

Every time I drive between 60 to 65 mph the steering wheel shakes back and forth. Also the front end shakes. It can be difficult to control at times. Had tires re-balanced and the 4 wheel alignment checked. I have also had the front end checked. Everything checks out. This appears to be a dangerous situation that seems common in a large population of fj's on the road.

My truck's steering wheel shakes violently between 55 and 65 mph when outfitted with off road lt category tires. The shake is oftentimes violent and energetic, and can make the vehicle difficult to control. The truck is a dedicated off road capable SUV and should easily tolerate such tires. There is a very active online community of Fj Cruiser owners, and this issue has been discussed there ad infinitum without solution, and here is a link to one of the better threads where it has been discussed . . . Steering wheel shimmy between 50-60mph. Have taken to dealer which have balanced the wheels and tires but I am still experiencing the same problem. Vehicle feel very unsafe with the steering wheel shaking at highways speeds. Other fj owners have been experiencing the same problem.
As Toyota and many, many Fj Cruiser owners are well-aware, there is a steering vibration issue that occurs somewhere in the 55-65 mph range that causes the steering wheel to shake back and forth pretty violently. As one of the previous complaints stated, there is a very active community of Fj Cruiser owners on internet forums that also have this problem. . . But I don't think they're aware of this complaint process or have the time to do it, or something. I'm using after-market wheels and tires that were professionally installed by very competent people, so I'm very confident it's not an issue with my wheels or tires. I would like to echo other complaints and say that the vehicle needs to be recalled and fixed.
Since late June of 2012, my trd Fj Cruiser has had serious steering wheel shake at about 62 miles an hour. It seems as though the steering wheel vibrates slightly between 55-60 and 65-70 but experiences peak shake at about 62 exactly. The shake in the steering is incredibly vigorous and makes me concerned for the safety of the vehicle. I have spoken with mechanics at my local truck shop and they do not know what the problem could be as the suspension is not significantly raised and the wheels are in good shape with a recent alignment. The steering also the steering lists to the right noticeably when at it's full vibration speed (62 mph).
Steering wheel begins shakes at speeds of 50 to 60 mph. Have balanced, road balanced tires and still the steering wheel shakes, at this speed I am concerned there is something with the suspension/tires that may cause a crash in the future.
Steering shakes at speeds at and above 35 mph, I had the dealer look at it and they say it is okay. It has pretty much been there for the past year, I had a 93 land cruiser with 253000 miles that did not have steering wheel shake like the fj does.
Vehicle steering wheel shakes violently between 55 and 70 mph. Several other fj owners seem to have this issue. Dealer can not fix even though they have tired multiple wheel balances and tire rotations. Not safe to drive on the highway like this.

Vehicle exhibited excessive steering wheel shake indicative of wheels being off balance. After attempting to re-balance 6 times at 4 different shops the symptom persists intermittently. Other fj owners of 2010 model year and newer Fj Cruisers have complained that their vehicles have exhibited the same behavior. The problem (based on feed back from other owners on internet forums) is spread across different models, wheel and tire combinations. Many of them have taken their vehicles back to Toyota who claims the shaking is normal. However the vehicle seems unstable at speed ranging from 45 to 60mph, most evident at about 50mph.
Steering wheel vibrates and shakes at random times between 50 and 60 mph.

2010 Fj Cruiser steering wheel shake/vibration. Only occurs when driving the vehicle between 55 mph and 65 mph. Driving the vehicle on identical road conditions below 55 mph or above 65 mph does not cause the steering wheel to shake/vibrate. Steering wheel shake/vibration occurs during the above mentioned speeds, regardless of road conditions. Dealer claims this is normal and refuses to address safety issue. Steering wheel shake/vibration occurs even with different tire/wheel combinations.
When the vehicle reaches 65 mph the steering wheel shakes. Not a uncontrollable shake but its felt and it can be seen if the steering wheel is released. Shake continues up until about 70 mph. Have installed new tires and wheels with repeated balancing, but shaking continues.
Severe steering wheel vibration between speeds of 55-70 mph. Steering wheel will shimmy when traveling between the speeds of 55-70 mph. Has been a problem since new. Toyota dealer notified 3 times so far. They performed road force balance and alignment. Shimmy still present. Was told that "they all do this and it is normal". Shimmy is so bad at time that vehicle feels unsafe to drive during these episodes, prompting me to quickly, sometimes unsafely slow down to below 55 mph. This has occurred in heavy traffic on highways and is definitely unsafe.
